inews.co.uk/news/politics/labour-conference-2019-free-movement-brexit-immigrants-voting-rights-637164

"Diane Abbot launched Labour's new immigration policy."

"Labour would keep free movement after Brexit and let all immigrants vote in elections and referendums after party members backed a much more liberal migration regime"

"The move came on the final day of a party conference overshadowed by bitter internal rows and the Supreme Court's shock verdict"

"The new policy package is a victory for activists who want Labour to position itself as the openly pro-migration party at the next election

Would it endanger the country by allowing foreign criminals to stay indefinitely?

"Delegates at the conference in Brighton backed the call to "maintain and extend free movement rights" after Brexit in a change to previous policy. That would let all European citizens live and work freely in the UK "

"The motion also called for all immigration detention centres to be closed down, with caps on migrant numbers abolished and no requirement for foreign citizens to earn a particular wage if they want to settle in Britain."

Is this not a "Vote for Labour" ploy?

Jezza will allow uncontrolled immigration in the hope that all entering the UK will vote for Labour. Rather desperate and dangerous measures which will affect us all, I'd say. hmm

Your views?

I feel GN needs all the laughs it can get at the moment, as po faced misery preaching seems to be the in thing

Isn't it just lemon sad A light-hearted response is always very welcome I think, so thank you Terribull

Day6 Sat 28-Sept-19 14:54:28

When did we breed such idiots that, even with the free education our country gives them, they are prepared to believe something without ever checking to see if it's true, just because it suits their underlying prejudice?

Do remember bias is the tool of left wingers too Gracesgran and you have been known to smear anyone thinking differently from you with stuff you dredge up from biased left wing press and publications.

If idiot (so charitable, aren't you? hmm ) is the term for those who criticise Labour and your beloved Corbyn, those not sharing your worship of the Marxists eager to destroy the UK, then we'll have to come up with a similar term of endearment. Those looking to see Labour damage and destroy the UK are many, so there must be a collective noun for them?

A Momentum of Marxists maybe? hmm

Anti-establishment will do for now

Please, please, TerriBull contribute to the political threads with your wonderful witty ( and insightful) posts.

Btw. Not all sailing folk are part of the bourgeoisie. My boat before the one we have now was moored astern of the Queens 'golden' barge. We saw it when she went onboard that day.
I'm a south London girl who didn't even finish school: I just got lucky?

Impartialandeducated Sat 28-Sept-19 16:46:04

Day6 well said! Momentum is usually a word used for forward or upward movement but I suppose there can be negative momentum as well, often referred to scientifically as "drag"
Seems appropriate for that collection of no-hopers and their deluded supporters !!

Day6 Sat 28-Sept-19 18:27:46

Well Impartialandeducated, given I see hard left Momentum as the driving force of the Labour Party, I feel their movement or momentum is designed to ensure Labour goes backwards and becomes the party for anarchists and those into the politics of envy.

If you earn a wage, beware Labour. They'll ensure your tax contributions pay for their crazy schemes and when there isn't enough money to fund them, (surprise, surprise) all the workers will be squeezed a bit more. As mentioned in a previous post elsewhere. low earning EU workers in the UK have their wages made up with benefits they are entitled to claim.

There will be huge amounts of money to fund it all. Borrowing and then the ensuing debt that the government which follows Labour has to sort out. Balancing the books is known as 'austerity' by high-spending Labour governments. Simple economics isn't their forte.

The Diane Abbot school of thought regarding economics powers Labour. wink

absthame Sat 28-Sept-19 23:48:33

That is so much emotive crap that you express in the opening of the thread.

If you are so committed to this government and its objective of “free trade” and assuming that you have the slightest degree of knowledge of economics and free trade, you would be totally aware that free trade by definition means that there will be free movement of capital, goods, services and labour. Restrictions on any of these means free trade is not possible.

The emotions that you seek to raise by the bayou open the thread is not designed to inform but simply to spread fear and make people anxious. That is appalling and you should be ashamed

crystaltipps Sun 29-Sept-19 04:53:20

Most of the motions passed in the last week have not had the labour leadership or MPs present as they will have been in the HoC. Interesting to see what ends up in their manifesto. Ditto the Tory conference coming up. Expect lots of promised “giveaways”

growstuff Sun 29-Sept-19 05:02:06

Anarchy and a socialist controlled economy are not even compatible.

growstuff Sun 29-Sept-19 05:11:20

starbird

England isn't the most densely populated country in Europe or the EU.

Iam64 Sun 29-Sept-19 06:23:12

Star bird - England doesn’t have large numbers who have never seen the countryside or seen a cow.

Peonyrose Sun 29-Sept-19 07:46:29

The enemy within. No wonder he has sat on the fence for three years.

Impartialandeducated Sun 29-Sept-19 08:00:45

So Crystaltipps, you are now saying that motions are passed, the parliamentary party having no knowledge let alone having a vote. I look forward to the chaos when the manifesto you refer to is published. Will those delegates then be told they didn't know what they were voting to facilitate a different way forward. Latest polls show conservatives increasing their lead over the next party and the beloved Corbyn over 20% behind Boris as a prime minister!! Maybe the market researchers asked the wrong questions or more likely the respondents did not understand what they were responding to, a key feature of the"new democracy"

crystaltipps Sun 29-Sept-19 08:23:27

I am not a Corbyn fan in any way shape or form, although I don’t think he is a lying charlatan like Boris. Popular appeal does not equal good as we know from recent history. I’m just saying conference calls do not always result in manifesto pledges, and manifestos themselves are not sacred documents and are not always delivered as we well know from the number of recent U turns.

Daisymae Sun 29-Sept-19 09:14:50

Isn't this just what has been going on e the whole time the conservative government has been in place? They have had it in their power to limit immigration from outside the EU and have not taken any action.

Grany Sun 29-Sept-19 11:38:29

Whitewavemark2 Sun 29-Sept-19 11:40:43

grany?

Grandad1943 Sun 29-Sept-19 11:46:18

Yes great reforming policies Grany, very much in the mode of the 1945 Clement Attlee Labour government that gave this nation so much for everyone who resided here.

Grany Sun 29-Sept-19 11:56:18

Yes these are the sort of polices I can get behind smile

Impartialandeducated Sun 29-Sept-19 16:27:30

Grany Your list is exhaustive and exhausting.
1.DWP changed to dept of soc security......why bother with the "work" bit
2.Recognise Palestine... easy just look for rockets flying toward Jerusalem
3.4 new public holidays...on top of the 4 day week..a new definition of part time work
4.Free bus travel for under 255....should be feasible
5.End opt out of working directive... can't see there will be much work taking place
6.50pc cut in food bank use in first year..bouncrrs on the door to keep them out
7.Cap on school uniforms...most schools no longer specify caps
8. Restore trade union rights.......back to Scargill and cronies..25% inflation
9. Create minister for mental health....no shortage of candidates on labour benches
10. Repeal bedroom tax....there is no such tax.
This is my top ten.. hope I have treated with the attitude it merits.

lemongrove Sun 29-Sept-19 16:46:07

grin
Looks even crazier written down grany

I said ages ago they would want anything that moved nationalised, and seems I was right.

Grandad1943 Sun 29-Sept-19 16:49:19

Another forum member having lost a constructive argument taking off on a rant.

lemongrove Sun 29-Sept-19 16:55:20

I can’t see any rants on here at all, so....confused

humptydumpty Sun 29-Sept-19 16:57:46

Somehow these aims, even if not realistic, represent aspirations somewhat preferable to the Conservatives.

grapefruitpip Sun 29-Sept-19 17:01:06

9. Create minister for mental health....no shortage of candidates on labour benches.......and the point of this is?

Impartialandeducated Sun 29-Sept-19 20:07:49

Grandad1943 Since you clearly do not understand the meaning of the word rant, which you seem to use whenever you feel defeated intellectually, why not choose other terminology, e.g. "fair cop"!!!!
