You can bet your bottom dollar that the Misses Wax, Lowe, Stevenson and Misters Fry, Rylance et al are not sleeping on the streets, are still driving or being driven in cars and using their electronic gadgets. Still eating foods transported over thousands of miles, still wearing clothes made outside the UK, still not sorting their rubbish as assiduously as the average Brit, still spouting ignorant hypocritical nonsense.
They make me sick.
All of them, a***** of the first water.

gillybob Tue 08-Oct-19 10:58:55

I’m really going to stick my neck out now and ask?

Those who think that what XR are doing is right . How would they feel if they could not get to a vital hospital appointment? How would they feel if they were unable to get to work? Do they want to see factories employing hundreds of thousands of people closed? Car production coming to an abrupt end?

Is it a case of “I’m alright jack” I’m retired I’ve got a good pension or I’ve got a rich mummy and daddy who will support me for the rest of my life..... stuff the rest of you.

maddyone Tue 08-Oct-19 11:00:23

I think, like gillybob, that the problem with celebrities getting involved, is the sheer hypocrisy demonstrated by many of them.
I like Ruby Wax too, but the fact that I like her has got nothing to do with the issue.

Anniebach Tue 08-Oct-19 11:01:10

How can we say the names given in the O/P don’t recycle as we do, still wear clothes made outside the U.K. etc

maddyone Tue 08-Oct-19 11:04:22

We can’t Annie, we simply don’t know what they do at home, we only know that when they turn up at a demonstration or conference, that they have often travelled in from abroad. And we know that many of them jet about in planes all the time, so they appear to be hypocritical. I think that’s what the OP meant.

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 11:06:10

Time for the hose's !!

Despicable.

newnanny Tue 08-Oct-19 11:08:03

It won't be long before an ambulance or fire engine can't get through and lives will be lost. I hope they all get arrested and have a criminal record.

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 11:08:42

They are letting emergency vehicles through. Get your facts right.

gillybob Tue 08-Oct-19 11:18:21

And ordinary people not being able to get to vital hospital appointments or their jobs of work newnanny .I think these layabouts need to reasons that everyone doesn’t have the luxury of continuously “playing out” .

gillybob Tue 08-Oct-19 11:20:18

Yes perhaps a bit of their own medicine EllanVannin they are keen on using hoses themselves after all . Wasting water ? Us ? What?

gillybob Tue 08-Oct-19 11:20:59

Oops Realise not reasons, silly me.

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 11:50:03

Shame chips on shoulders have to emerge so frequently on these threads.

And btw, most of the younger people involved will be working their way towards university courses, so that they can get good jobs related to environmental causes. And they will have student loans to pay off. Not sure where the "rich mummies and daddies" come from.

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 11:52:04

I hope no one has the gaul to post on these threads if they haven't bothered to read the full facts on the Extinction Rebellion website.

gillybob Tue 08-Oct-19 11:54:12

I thought your were ignoring me from now on Gonegirl ? (your very words yesterday) or was that just another one of your “jokes” ? hmm it’s fine by me though. smile

trisher Tue 08-Oct-19 11:57:26

If getting a celeb means more news time-and it does Sir Mark Ryland and Juliet Stevenson both got soundbites- then good for them. The fact that you choose to sit on your arse moaning about demonstrators just indicates how out of touch some people are. Incidentally how on earth does "sleeping on the streets" become something to do with Extinction Rebellion? It's purely the product of austerity and the Tory government.

MawB Tue 08-Oct-19 12:03:32

Extinction Rebellion has promised to shut down Westminster in a protest that will be five times bigger than that seen in April. The action could disrupt emergency care at St Thomas’ Hospital, activists admitted yesterday, and they are planning to fill all of the Met’s police cells by refusing to accept bail

That is what they were promising yesterday. Is it any wonder some people worried about e.g.hospital access? If that had been us two years ago and the Royal Free, I would have been worried too.
PS Gonegirl keep the French out of it. After Brexit it will of course be “gall”.

Esther1 Tue 08-Oct-19 12:03:35

These Protests frustrate me - it’s not like everyone doesn’t agree with what they’re saying - but why not draw attention to yourselves by doing something productive like walk around in smaller groups actually clearing up the plastic and rubbish in the street, rather than stopping people getting to their hospital appointments or their work. Talk is cheap!

Dinahmo Tue 08-Oct-19 12:10:57

Callistemon I'm afraid I understood GG54's post only too well. She was attacking the celebrities for wearing clothes and eating food from other countries. I have no idea whether she only wears clothes made in the UK or eats vegan food. Nor does she know where their food and clothing comes from.

In fact - why does food have to be vegan? Vegan is a term used to describe strict vegetarians who don't consume any animal products, including wearing leather shoes. I assume that you mean a bio farm?

gillybob Tue 08-Oct-19 12:13:25

Does it matter whether Gabriella does or doesn’t wear clothes from other countries ? It’s not her doing the preaching is it ? Not her being a complete hypocrite .

JenniferEccles Tue 08-Oct-19 12:17:40

I have had exactly the same thought Esther1

They would actually be achieving something wouldn’t they rather than just making the majority of us furious at their childish self indulgent antics.

I feel so sorry for folk trying to go about their normal lives particularly in London.

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 12:17:58

Had a feeling that was wrong MawB. grin

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 12:19:00

No more jokes Gillybob. I can promise you that.

Dinahmo Tue 08-Oct-19 12:19:23

MawB Of course people will be able to get into hospitals. I don't suppose any of the protestors don't realise the backlash that would occur if someone died en route to a hospital as a result of their actions.

Esther1 There have been several examples of young people clearing streets and beaches etc but rarely do they make it past the local news. A few celebrities turning up grabs much more coverage than 50 people demonstrating in Cheltenham for example. Nor are they going to intimidate people going about their lawful business, unlike some other recent protests.

MissAdventure Tue 08-Oct-19 12:19:53

I'm sure it doesn't actually matter who does what.
I mean, people who travel around on private jets (a certain unpopular couple) tell the rest of us how to live.

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 12:20:48

trisher sleeping on the streets is to be part of the demonstration. Yep! Cold, wet, dirty, London streets.

Couldn't do it myself.--but I know a man who can-- grin

MissAdventure Tue 08-Oct-19 12:21:19

Actually, I did just quickly read that someone missed their hospital appointment as a result of the protesters.
