You can bet your bottom dollar that the Misses Wax, Lowe, Stevenson and Misters Fry, Rylance et al are not sleeping on the streets, are still driving or being driven in cars and using their electronic gadgets. Still eating foods transported over thousands of miles, still wearing clothes made outside the UK, still not sorting their rubbish as assiduously as the average Brit, still spouting ignorant hypocritical nonsense.
They make me sick.
All of them, a***** of the first water.

I wonder if all those protesters put their rubbish in the right bins ? Perhaps a hefty fine would bring them to their senses about recycling products and the damaged earth.

Why not impose fines anyway ? Hit people where it hurts the most.

Gonegirl Where did you see the proof the man who missed getting to his dying father was a hoax? At the time I remember hearing a representative of XR on the radio saying it was unfortunate but collateral damage. So insensitive to the family involved.

To achieve the demands of XR in the next 5 years every non-electric car on the road will need to be scrapped, every gas boiler will need to be replaced by an electric one, along with cooking equipment. And that's just for starters. Can you all afford the replacements? I know I can't. Has anyone gone into whether we can manufacture these replacements on the scale required in that time frame? Can they say exactly how they think we will generate enough electricity from renewable sources to service this massive turnaround?
None of this means we shouldn't be looking for solutions, and yes governments need to do much, much more. I fail to see how preventing ordinary people from going about their lawful activities helps. Anybody who isn't aware of or doesn't believe in climate change by now is not going to be persuaded by these protests. And I still maintain that as all transport adds to carbon totals, travelling from all parts of the UK to London is very irresponsible. Protest if you must in your own area. I would think 1000 coordinated protests across the country would certainly grab the headlines.

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 17:47:35

I have already replied to sunseeker regarding that janipat.

Anniebach Tue 08-Oct-19 17:49:48

Are Porto loos provided ?

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 17:52:04

I dunno. I hope so. grin

janipat Tue 08-Oct-19 17:53:57

Gonegirl sorry I missed you'd replied, it was the last post on the previous page. But I still wonder who/what convinced you it was a proven hoax? I would hope it wasn't official XR.

merlotgran Tue 08-Oct-19 17:56:23

Given the thread title, Annie. I certainly hope so.

Anniebach Tue 08-Oct-19 18:15:36

I was watching the tents in Trafalgar Square and suddenly thought ‘the loos’, perhaps the fountain!

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 18:35:19

Ok janipat. It was my XR enthusiast GS told me that. I think he thought it was true, but there is always the possibility he was trying to shut his old gran up.

You happy now?

( I don't know any XR officials. Not sure there are any)

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 18:36:48

Mind you, he's about as official as they come. grin (local group only)

grapefruitpip Tue 08-Oct-19 18:38:20

Lots of fake news.......Don MacNaughton ?

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 19:00:54

No idea what that means.

varian Tue 08-Oct-19 19:10:38

I agree with Extinction Rebellion in that it is so obvious that we need to act urgently to mitigate climate change, but I disagree with XR that the UK or any other country could achieve zero carbon by 2025.

We need a more realistic target and incentives for all of us to do the right thing to achieve what may just be achievable.

Gonegirl Tue 08-Oct-19 19:12:32

I think a lot of them know that's unrealistic.

janipat Tue 08-Oct-19 19:14:22

Gonegirl I meant official as on their website, not an official lol

varian agree with you 100%

pinkquartz Tue 08-Oct-19 19:23:18

We have a lot more issues to deal other than carbon emissions.

Plastics, chemical, cutting down the rain forest
deforestation of wildlife habitat like the poor orangutans losing their homeland.

Silly to be arguing about who uses what. We need to tackle all of it

Does no-one on here care about the birds, now disappearing fast?

I live by the sea gillybob but the birds were louder than the gulls in my village until now. I still have some birds but the diversity is lost.

I think like you Callistemon why don't the celebs get out and educate like Hugh FernW has done. They look like they are doing their usual attention grabbing is all.

I feel very sad. So much energy and what is it achieving? Is it making people think at all?

Callistemon Wed 09-Oct-19 01:31:05

Beckett exactly.

It's as if everything many of us have worried about, talked about and pressurised our MPs about for very many years is dismissed and only the protestors are concerned about the state of the planet. The rest of us are deemed to be deniers because we question their methods and question how these celebrities and royals can justify their own lifestyles at the same time as telling others how they should live.

Callistemon Wed 09-Oct-19 01:36:22

time for the hoses

Yes, that paint job was despicable Gonegirl!
And pointless.

Callistemon Wed 09-Oct-19 01:41:03

Dinahmo I know exactly what a vegan is and i thought that you were vegan. Perhaps I misunderstood.

My point is, how many people realise exactly what is entailed in food reaching from farm to plate.

quizqueen Wed 09-Oct-19 01:50:13

If you really care about the planet then you should agree that all the humans should be got rid of, leaving Earth for the animals, who have never done anything to harm it. Human behaviour will never change; we are too selfish by nature.

Callistemon Wed 09-Oct-19 01:50:56

Gonegirl thanks for the link

Much of it is commonsense, really but I do wonder about those who continue to litter the country - from looking at some of the rubbish, it is sometimes people with young children who throw it out as they drive along.
I despair.

Regarding the Bristol man who was prevented from reaching his dying father by protestors, I had not heard that this was a hoax. Do you have a link to prove that, please?

Callistemon Wed 09-Oct-19 01:52:42

quizqueen Planet Earth will survive even if we do not.

Another species could then dominate as has happened previously.

crystaltipps Wed 09-Oct-19 07:44:43

They did have porta loos which the police confiscated, they are crowdfunding to get some more along with cooking equipment etc. They did also have rubbish collection bins which the police confiscated.

gillybob Wed 09-Oct-19 07:53:27

Surely no one can just set portaloos and cooking equipment wherever they please? I mean really .

gillybob Wed 09-Oct-19 08:14:53

The problem we have pinkquartz is that people feed the gulls despite signs telling them not to. They have been known to snatch food out of children’s hands.

We have a gorgeous traditional park with a boating lake etc. But the massive increase in seagull numbers has started to diminish the number of ducks and make it difficult for people to walk around at certain times .
