Regarding stop and search I'll declare my bias here. One of my sons is in the police. He is no longer a uniformed officer having become a detective a few years ago. When he was a uniformed officer on the street he conducted many searches on individuals. Yes there are always shouts of bias on stop and search. Mostly they are of young men. In a predominately BAME area they will mostly consist of people of colour. In a predominately white area they will mostly consist of white males. My youngest son was stopped and searched while at university because he was drunk and had no idea where he was! As his mother I didn't take offence although he certainly didn't like emptying his rucksack onto the pavement. Unless we want eg every 5th person on the street searched then we have to accept "profiling" and your average granny is unlikely to be carrying a knife. Yes innocent people are targeted. Years ago my husband worked in IT. Back then, when the nightshift finished the work they were allowed to go home before the end of the shift. Many was the time he was stopped by police and asked what he was doing out at 3.30/4 am. He would tell them and be on his way. Often the registration of our car would be checked. If we're serious about limiting knives on the streets then we have to accept that young men will be disproportionately targeted.
Is there anyone who still thinks that Israel's actions in Gaza are justifiable?
Is it me or am I getting mixed messages
