Boris Johnson and his lies

The independent think tank UK in a Changing Europe has today found that Johnson's deal would reduce GDP per capita by between 2.3% and 7% over the next decade. This compares with May's deal where the estimate was between 1.9% and 5.5%. They also suggest that a deal would hit public finances by £16bn and £49bn.

Today in parliament Johnson promised that high standards on workers rights an environmental protections will be maintained.

The political declaration can enter UK law but it is only a statement of intent and he can therefore promise the ERG that, if he wins the next election, he will set aside the political declaration and pivot towards deregulation and a sweetheart deal with Trump. The purpose of the ERG is to deregulate at home in order to strike trade deals with the US and emerging markets.

Would someone please explain why he should now be trusted when he has lied throughout the whole of his career. After all, leopards don't change their spots. It would take too long to list all his lies, but here's some, as a reminder:

1. When suspended from the cable car across the Thames, the mechanism apparently failed. Of course, it was deliberately stopped and he claimed it failed for a good photo opportunity.

2. In his manifesto for the London Mayor election he promised that he would ensure that there would be manned ticket offices at every train station. he then agreed to widespread closures in order to fund 24 hour tube trains

3. Also in his manifesto he promised to eradicate rough sleeping - it doubled during his tenure

4. He lied about the reason for proroguing parliament

5. He repeated his lie about the EU regulating the shape of bananas

6. He lied about there being no press when he was at GOS Hospital

Now for the money wasted whilst mayor on vanity projects:

1. Feasibility study into the Garden Bridge - £52 million

2. Cable car £24 million

3. Boris bikes £225 million (original idea Ken Livingstone but BJ implemented it)

4. Water cannon £323,000 - not allowed under UK law, unsold and now scrapped

5. Estuary airport feasibility study £5.2 million

6. Olympic stadium conversion to football pitch for West Ham - £305 million. The club was supposed to contribute £153 million but in the end it only paid £15 million and now pays annual rent of £2.5 million.

7. Routemaster hybrid buses £321.6 million - superseded by the introduction of electric buses. It's USP is now defunct because the doors at the rear "hop on hop off" platforms are closed in moving traffic (and that includes at walking pace)

A few of these projects had small amounts of sponsorship money but most of the costs were funded by the tax payer

It is good to see that Johnson bottled out of trying to defend the Wells constituency which was won last time by a ghastly Tory brexiter despite having told a Scottish schoolgirl at Millfield School to "f* off back to Scotland"

It is high time that the excellent Liberal Democrat Tessa Munt was re-elected in the Wells constituency.

Pantglas2 Quote [ And poor Blair who was hated by most of his own party!] End Quote.

Pantglas2, Tony Blair was held in high esteem by many within the Parlimentery Labour Party and the Consiuency Parties.

However, he was totally despised within the broader Labour movement affiliate membership who quite rightly felt he took their money but offered then nothing over the ten years of his premiership.

Whatever happens in this election Labour, very many believe, that Labour will not change it's present policies or political stance.

Whoever eventually replaces Jeremy Corbyn will be very much in his political image.

Pantglas2 Thu 14-Nov-19 19:48:04

I know many staunch Labour members who thought he was a Tory like his father, Granddad1943!

More lies yesterday from Johnson on Radio 5 Live:

Claimed that 11,000 knives taken off the street via stop and search whilst he was Mayor - fact many of these were recovered by other means

Tried to blame Sadiq Khan for the losses on the Garden bridge whereas Khan cancelled the project in order to avoid further losses. Turns out Johnson didn't even obtain proper planning permission before spending the money

Claimed that Corbyn was against home ownership - not true. JC's never been heard to claim that

Claimed that if Labour wins there will be two referendums next year - Brexit and Scottish Independence. JC has always said that there will be no Scottish referendum during the first parliamentary term.

It is high time that journalists were prepared to challenge Johnson every time he lies.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 16-Nov-19 15:27:48

So far

Peter Jukes

So that’s at least FOUR criminal investigations around Boris Johnson and his cabinet.
1. Vote Leave lawbreaking and coverup
2. Arcuri payments and Mayor of London (evidence compelling I hear)
3. Darroch cables leak
4. Representation of People Act electoral interference

Whitewavemark2 Sat 16-Nov-19 15:49:55

Brexitshambles
@brexit_sham
What a time to be alive - With a general election underway, the widow of a KGB spy, murdered in London on the orders of President Putiin, through poisoning with polonium-210, is taking Boris Johnson to court over hiding a report into Russian interference!

Dinahmo Sat 16-Nov-19 16:01:31

I think we've hit upon the reason why he wants to win so much. Whilst he's PM he thinks that he can prevent police investigations and he does seem to be doing so. When he's no longer PM that might be a bit more difficult. Shades of Trump and the impeachment process perhaps.

Putin is pulling his strings

Whitewavemark2 Sun 17-Nov-19 12:25:00

To be screened tonight on ITV at 11 pm

The interview Boris Johnson prayed to God would never happen has just dropped.

Robert Peston
@Peston

Jennifer Arcuri cannot understand why
@BorisJohnson
has "blocked" and "ignored" her, even though she has been "a true friend" and "kept his secrets". Quite extraordinary clip from
@itv
interview

suziewoozie Sun 17-Nov-19 12:31:52

Good to see Jennifer back. There’s a sort of theme at the moment isn’t there?

Boris Johnson's biggest lie is his party's election slogan "get brexit done".

They say that if we endorse his withdrawal agreement then we can move on to concentrate on everything else.

In fact, and this obviously needs to be spelled out to all those voters who are bored of brexit, sick to the back teeth of brexit and just want brexit to be over so we can get back to some sort of normality, that would not be the end of brexit, only the beginning.

The tories are lying to them. If they have their way the whole brexit tragedy will continue for the next ten, fifteen or twenty years.

Interviewers presenting election debates or vox-pops from the man in the street who repeats the nonsense "let's just get brexit done " need to explain this clearly and unambiguously to misguided voters.

It is just not good enough for this to be allowed to go uinchallenged.

This Tory slogan is a dangerous lie.

Marc François really is gammon in chief:

''Mark Francois said on LBC that publishing the ISC Russia report will "do the party no favours politically" and make people "vote against" the Tories.

Thanks to Mark Francois for confirming the Tories have something to hide and it's extremely damaging.''

Labaik Mon 18-Nov-19 11:58:08

It's been puzzling me for ages how Johnson gets away with all of the horrible things he's done; then, in a light bulb moment I realised that the people that support him have no moral compass themselves. Patently obvious, I know, but it took me a while to get there....

Dinahmo Mon 18-Nov-19 15:46:47

Labaik You've hit the nail on the head. It's the same with Trump. The male supporters think lucky Johnson/Trump that they make all this money, have all those girls, etc etc. ~In Trump's case live in houses with gold bath fittings.!

Labaik Mon 18-Nov-19 16:01:15

Trump puzzles me even more in that a lot of devout Christians admire/vote for him.

varian Mon 18-Nov-19 19:28:54

I do wonder about the devout Christians amongst the Republican supporters especially in the Southern States of the USA. Are these people, possibly because of their upbringing, very susceptible to brainwashing?

There is a huge gulf between the standards of Christian behaviour and morality they have been taught and the proven behaviour of this lying, cheating, adulterous, fornicating, treacherous President.

How do they ever square that circle? Is it all down to Fox News?

SirChenjin Mon 18-Nov-19 20:08:47

This gives a bit of background to the support Trump enjoys from the evangelicals in the US www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/10/07/books/review/who-is-an-evangelical-thomas-s-kidd.amp.html

Another affair leaving another child in his wake

Whitewavemark2 Tue 19-Nov-19 06:50:08

I wonder if Johnson pays for all his children?

SirChenjin Tue 19-Nov-19 07:34:31

I doubt it - given he’s not quite sure how many he actually has

jura2 Tue 19-Nov-19 22:20:29

Now I just can't believe I am reading this sad sad sad

''Senior Executives at the BBC have allegedly claimed that they are refusing to expose the relentless lies told by the Tory Prime Minister Boris Johnson because doing so would supposedly ‘undermine the general public’s trust in democracy‘.

The astonishing claim that BBC bigwigs are allegedly covering up the numerous lies told by Johnson was reported by respected journalist, Peter Oborne, in an article for The Guardian.''

Conservative central office have changed their Twitter handle to "factcheck"an outrageous trick to push fake news

Labaik Tue 19-Nov-19 22:35:17

I saw that but didn't quite understand what was happening....

MaizieD Tue 19-Nov-19 22:52:49

I saw that yesterday, jura. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Feeding us the ruling party's lies without calling them out on them is behaving like the mouthpiece of a dictatorship.

Pravda, anyone?
