I would just like one thread for brexiters only please.

I voted leave. I would vote leave again and again and again. There has been nothing to change my mind. I have been hardened by the views of remainers.

I would really like to talk to other brexit minded posters.
Thanks.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has accused Boris Johnson and other politicians of pouring petrol on a “very polarised and volatile situation” around Brexit.

Justin Welby issued a warning to MPs on all sides that it was “extraordinarily dangerous to use careless comments” amid high tensions that have been linked to a rise in hate crime.

He told The Sunday Times he had been shocked by the prime minister’s dismissal of an appeal to moderate his language by a Labour MP as “humbug”.

“Death threats are really serious and they need to be taken seriously,” Archbishop Welby said.

“In a time of deep uncertainty, a much smaller amount of petrol is a much more dangerous thing than it was in a time when people were secure. There is a great danger to doing it when we’re already in a very polarised and volatile situation.”
Discussing September's heated House of Commons debate in Mr Johnson was heavily criticised for his comments, Archbishop Welby said a “great deal of really difficult things” were also said by MPs from other parties.

He added: “I think we have become addicted to an abusive and binary approach to political decisions: ‘It’s either this or you’re my total enemy’.

“There have been inflammatory words used on all sides, in parliament and outside - ‘traitor’, ‘fascist’, all kinds of really bad things have been said at the highest level in politics.”

Labiak
I do not understand your post.
Joe Cox was murdered because the local white population were complaining that she was very biased towards the high Pakistani population. One educationally challenged loner type guy thought he was doing the community a favour.
How is this Brexit related?
Gina Miller along with millions of others has had the threats of murder How many time have you witnessed a heated argument when one or both say ‘I’ll f’ing kill you’ either in real life, TV or film? Some if the nicest TV celebs get threats for no good reason. Oh, and poor Jill Dando, was her murder Brexit related?
Somewhat strange train of thought.

crystaltipps Sun 27-Oct-19 16:52:28

You can’t claim Jo Cox’ murder not Brexit related. It was the height of the campaign, Farage was making the most of refugee stories, the guy shouted “ Britain First”. You can’t claim to fully know his motives to pick that particular time, as he wasn’t allowed to speak at his trial.

1. Before joining the EEC we were known as the poor man of Europe
- Really? Where is your proof of this?

2. Before the referendum in 2016 we were one of the wealthiest nations in the EU
We still are!

3. Peace within the E~U for 75 years - longest period of peace in 2000 years
Think you'll find that's down to NATO, not the EU.

4. Non tariff trade barriers
What's to stop us negotiating new trade deals with the rest of the world once we leave the EU? We are one of the global market economies.

5. Free movement of labour - the very thing that we DON'T WANT. We need immigration, yes, but it MUST be controlled and it must be to provide the skills we need.
Controlled immigration also allows both national and local Government the opportunity to properly plan services and infrastructure, e.g. housing, education, etc. How can we ever properly plan and manage the national infrastructure when we have no idea who is coming into the country and for how long? We need precise controlled targeted immigration.

7. Access to the single market has helped investment into the UK from outside the EU
Investment into the UK post-Brexit will continue, the ROW want our goods, services, and expertise.

8. The UK's net contribution to the EU budget is £7.3bn (0.4% of GDP).
Precisely - there is a net contribution! We are supporting less successful European economies, and I don't understand why!

9. Common Arrest Warrant
It's in everyone's best interests to continue to co-operate regarding sharing of information and support for purposes of national security and crime-fighting. We will continue to do so.

10. Minimum guaranteed maternity leave of 14 weeks for pregnant women and 18 weeks of parental leave after the baby is born
This will continue! Why do you think that just because we leave the EU, we will lose all of our employment legislation and we will become f***g slave traders??? Jeez.

11. Introduction of pet passports
Most countries allow transport of pets providing they meet the required veterinary standards
Why wouldn't this continue? And if it doesn't, then we'll re-negotiate another agreement to transport pets. Hardly a good enough reason to postpone Brexit, surely?

12. Cheaper air travel due to EU competition laws
The USA has cheap air travel - and they are not in the EU!

13. Over 45 million people travelled to Europe on holiday in 2018
Why would this stop? We will still be able to travel!

14. Funding for the British film industry, theatre, music, dance and sports. Grants for these, with the possible exception of sport as the govt sees that as a way to keep the population healthy, has been drastically cut over the last 10 years.
Hmm, how about we re-direct some of our NET ANNUAL CONTRIBUTION to the EU towards this funding????? There'd still be some left over grin.

15. Pooling of resources and intelligence.
See my answer to point 9 above. This would continue. We share information and intelligence with the rest of the world, not just the EU.

Yet more scaremongering from Remainers, it really is farcical.

'Totally agree. The arrogance of the Remainers is staggering. Most Leavers realise that Remainers are only interested in their own bigoted opinions and EU worshipping through blinkered eyes. Best to let them carry on ranting and doing everything they can to damage the future for their grandchildren. Everything they dream up is incontrovertible fact and everyone else is half baked. They live in lalaland. I dread to think what the teachers amongst them were brainwashing our young with. We moved out of London when our DD2 was told to write an essay on burning Mrs Thatcher on a bonfire. Murdering people who disagree with you seemed quite acceptable to them. Nothing they come up with surprises me now.'...did I misread this, then?

Joelsnan and Opal excellent posts refuting all the bullet points posted about EU ( and all the wonderful things (!) it does for us.)Mostly, with our own money.

crystaltipps Sun 27-Oct-19 18:16:13

Must be so trusting in our benevolent government that they are going to be putting all that money into public services and not, say, tax cuts for the rich, or buying votes from bigoted politicians.. Of course this is forgetting all that money given to the EU is paying for loads of trading and legal services which we now see are going to gobble up most of that extra money and more anyway.

Labaik Sun 27-Oct-19 18:21:19

What does anyone know about the fact that the 'UK gives up £7bn EU bank windfall' article in The Times? It won't let me print it in full.

Opal Sun 27-Oct-19 22:07:15

I find it incredulous that crystaltipps doesn't seem to trust our Government, but is willing to place full trust in the EU and its cronies. Who is more likely to put the UK first? A UK Government or the EU? The EU will look after the EU, first and foremost, and if you doubt that, then you really are in gagaland.

Grandad1943 Sun 27-Oct-19 23:19:21

Opal, in regard to your post @22:07 today, you state that the EU will look after the EU.

Britain has been part of the EU for many years, therefore in your own words the European Union has looked after Britain being one of its member states.

Therefore, Opal, I find your view perfectly correct as Europe has had no major wars since it's formation and Britain grew to be the worlds fifth-largest economy while within the European Union.

A wonderfull organization.

growstuff Sun 27-Oct-19 23:19:50

The way the UK government is behaving, I'd put my trust in the EU any day.

Chestnut Sun 27-Oct-19 23:34:24

How nice it would have been for leavers to have a thread where they could chat without all the aggressive attacks from remainers.

growstuff Sun 27-Oct-19 23:44:14

What would you have chatted about?

growstuff Mon 28-Oct-19 04:42:47

Joelsnan I don't think I've ever witnessed a heated argument when anybody has threatened to murder somebody.

Even if I have and it's normal, do you think it's normal for people to set up a crowdfunding page to kill Gina Millar? This is what happened.

Peonyrose Mon 28-Oct-19 06:04:27

Opal, spot on. Unfortunately this thread has been hijacked by very unpleasant people, it's frightening. Grow stuff, what country in Europ would you rather be, Greece, Italy, Spain the list goes on. They are in severe financial trouble. Before you post you should check your facts.
I am afraid Brexiteers, on these threads there is no question of not being hijacked by such people. It makes you wonder what would or could happen if they got control, there is no room in their agenda for anything other than getting what they want fair or foul. I know a lot of remainers who are decent and law abiding, accepted the referendum and want to move on, they are as exasperated as we are, they can't all be tarred with the same brush.

crystaltipps Mon 28-Oct-19 06:29:49

Yes I would see the EU as protection from useless /extreme U.K. governments whose answer to a financial crisis is to close libraries , cut police an other public services, rather than tax their cronies.

growstuff Mon 28-Oct-19 06:51:01

For Peonyrose flowers grin

Morning Brexiters I wonder what fresh hell awaits in the HoC today from the plotters and thwarters?

Grandad1943 Mon 28-Oct-19 07:28:57

Urmstongran Quote [ Morning Brexiters I wonder what fresh hell awaits in the HoC today from the plotters and thwarters?] End Quote.

Urmstongran, do you mean those who wish to ensure that Britains NHS is not put up for sale.

Do you mean those who wish to see employee rights protected?

Do you mean those who wish to see Britains manufacturing and Finance industries remain in the UK?

Do you mean those who wish to see workplace safety maintained at the high level it serves now for workers?

Do you mean those who wish to see the Union maintained as now with Northern Ireland on the same status as the rest of the UK?

Do you mean those who wish to see Britains security remains in strong working cooperation with other European nations to the benefit of all?

If so Urmstongran I am sure those plotters and thwarters will be doing all they can to ensure they gain their goals in the House of Commons.

growstuff Mon 28-Oct-19 07:29:43

That's no way to talk about your PM, his puppetmaster and their acolytes! Show some respect! hmm

Urmstongran Mon 28-Oct-19 07:52:30

In the Graun this morning:

‘Morrissey has performed in Los Angeles on Saturday wearing a vest with the slogan “Fuck the Guardian”.

The former Smiths frontman wore the top during a concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, weeks after he described this newspaper as “the voice of all that is wrong and sad about modern Britain”.

The 60-year-old singer, who has repeatedly expressed support for the far-right party For Britain, has increasingly been lashing out at the Guardian in recent months.’

crystaltipps Mon 28-Oct-19 07:58:24

I’m not sure how Morrisey wearing an anti Guardian t shirt in the USA is relevant. Explain. If it was Stephen Fry writing an anti government article ( which he just has) he would be dismissed as a “luvvie”.
