was not able to watch as no UK Channels where I am currently. Could you kindly tell me how it went? Thanks.

What! The bullies on GN are in the red corner.

specki4eyes Sun 01-Dec-19 21:52:48

You're so right growstuff. I joined Gransnet seven years ago and enjoyed, in those days, the reasoned discussions and sound counsel of its members (most of whom appear to have now left). These days you get posters like lemongrove peddling their puerile opinions and bigotted attitudes and who are also so keen to fight, bully and belittle.

jo1book Sun 01-Dec-19 21:51:06

I agree with Lemon

Johnson may not be the best candidate but when faced with the alternative of Corbyn, he seems almost good!
Picked up an interview with a Labour voter from Walsall - a key marginal- who said Boris will get his vote because he is one of the blokes, like us working men! It made me laugh.

lemongrove Sun 01-Dec-19 21:31:39

Who would vote for this?
Nationalise everything that moves ( or doesn’t move)
Somebody who hates NATO
Would borrow three times as much as any other party
Would kowtow to any foreign power
Would seek to lose our nuclear deterrent
Calls Hamas friends
Invites the IRA to tea at Westminster after bombings
Is a rebellious student even though 70
Is a serial ditherer.
Who wants him as PM? Really?!

growstuff Sun 01-Dec-19 21:28:02

This place is becoming more like a primary school playground, complete with silly tit for tat arguments, bullies, snitches and people who can't discuss.

I thought this would be a site for more mature and reasoned argument.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 01-Dec-19 21:21:21

Who would vote for this?

A C Grayling #FBPE? #PeoplesVote &/or #Revoke50
@acgrayling
Misused public funds/Arcuri - Russian dossier - referendum crimes - lies - buffooning - Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe - bum boys - watermelon smiles - disastrous Foreign Secretary - lies to Queen - stopped by Supreme Court from misuse of powers - dodging questions - a Prime Minister?

lemongrove Sun 01-Dec-19 21:11:20

Haha.... All ? come the GE you may think that it’s enough!

Whitewavemark2 Sun 01-Dec-19 21:09:37

Oh is that all.

lemongrove Sun 01-Dec-19 21:09:23

The woman on Marr this morning ( Northern, fair hair) reviewing the papers, said much the same, that when knocking on doors, lifelong LP supporters were saying they will now vote Conservative or anything else as they just cannot bring themselves to vote for Corbyn.
The LP made a massive mistake in voting to make him leader.

lemongrove Sun 01-Dec-19 21:05:37

Heads/kittens/ supporting him....
There is your answer, in that voting for Johnson, whatever he’s like is preferable to the dreadful Corbyn.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 01-Dec-19 20:51:03

What are you talking about lemon?

The fact that Johnson plagiarised or that he lied numerous times on the Marr show.

Or that you have voted for someone like Johnson?

lemongrove Sun 01-Dec-19 20:47:34

Why do you think that is WWM2 ? Have a think.
It’s because Corbyn is so very unpopular,( the most disliked Labour leader ever apparently.)
So, it’s any port in a storm.?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 01-Dec-19 20:31:45

Marr should have asked about this. God it never stops does it.

I’m beginning to think that Johnson could sit biting the heads off kittens he would still get some people willing to support him.

Coverage of Boris Johnson’s plagiarism from ⁦@BarristerSecret⁩ goes international

lemongrove Sun 01-Dec-19 20:27:27

Am all for blame being apportioned when it’s correct, but it does sound that according to laws made in the past when he was charged, nothing could have prevented his release from prison.

Daddima Sun 01-Dec-19 20:25:58

Varian, of course he’s willing to be interviewed by Andrew Neil, how could you doubt him for a minute!
It’s a dreadful shame that the important business of ‘ getting Brexit done’, so our instantly improved economy ( no need for a tiresome transition period) will be able to provide the billions he’s going to use to improve absolutely everything, will make an interview logistically impossible!

Whitewavemark2 Sun 01-Dec-19 20:25:04

Johnson’s lies laid out in black and white

lemongrove Sun 01-Dec-19 20:25:04

Further to that, even if the Conservatives had changed the law around this ( that the LP brought in) this particular man was charged years ago, and would still have been allowed out on license.

lemongrove Sun 01-Dec-19 20:20:48

I read today that the terrorist on London Bridge had to be allowed out of prison and that the probation service wasn’t involved because they didn’t need to be.
Therefore, it had nothing to do with this particular case.

Iam64 Sun 01-Dec-19 19:55:25

It doesn't 'have zilch to do with the probation service", it's closely linked to the devastation to the Probation Service caused by the Conservatives. It's in the process of being taken back into public ownership because the attempt to privatise, ie make it into a profit making business, has failed spectacularly.

WE had a good Probation Service. One of its many roles was to work with offenders during their prison sentence. It was called "thoroughfare', I remember studying the course during my training in the late 70's early 80's.' The service had a proud history and the mantra "to advise, assist and befriend" underpinned its work.

On a separate point, we have significant problems in our prisons with radicalised groups of offenders. We have cat A prisons where some groups operate with little control. Slash and burn the criminal justice system, then blame a previous government for something it did 10 years ago.

jura2 Sun 01-Dec-19 19:49:21

lemon '' when it has zilch to do with the probation service''

now how on earth do you come to that conclusion?

crystaltipps Sun 01-Dec-19 19:42:56

The tories have been in power for over nine years and yet they still hide behind the Labour Party and mindlessly blame them for their own shortcomings. Just how low are they prepared to go? If they’d have wanted to change the sentencing policy they have had plenty of time to do that. We know Johnson is a liar and his supporters must know that too they obviously don’t care.

growstuff Sun 01-Dec-19 18:53:33

Just watched Marr and Johnson on iplayer. Johnson was a shambles. I really despair that some people have such low standards that they could actually vote for this man.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 01-Dec-19 17:22:18

What on Earth is happening to the integrity in this country when voters are prepared to vote a liar in as PM?

Today
@BorisJohnson
lied to the BBC, claiming child poverty had gone down.

In fact, it’s gone up every year since 2010. Now, a staggering 4.1 million British children live in poverty.

A government allowing this is disgusting.

A prime minister lying about it is inexcusable.

lemongrove Sun 01-Dec-19 17:20:58

Oh give over! Corbyn has been blathering about cuts to the probation service today and trying to pin the blame on that ( when it has zilch to do with the probation service.)
I find that more offensive than Johnson saying terrorists should serve longer in prison.

jura2 Sun 01-Dec-19 17:11:24

Which bit ''We have reached a new low when the Prime Minister stoops to deliberate falsehoods for political gain in the aftermath of a terrorist attack''

how is that a babble of sound? It is misusing a terrible tragedy, and accident waiting to happen - and use it for political gain. It is sick and disgusting, and the lowest of the low.
