A politics no-go zone?

I learned today that it is illegal to feature politics in any shape or form on TV or radio tomorrow . (Apart from the Election coverage after the polls have closed.)

Would it be possible for the same embargo to apply to Gransnet - or am I wishing for the moon?
How peaceful it would be.
Or would the vow of silence be more than some could take?

I do appreciate you just lie in wait to call me selfish Bridgeit but I wonder what you do in real life with toxic people. I eventually give up on them and they no longer toxify my life. I think any half-decent shrink would advise you to do just that.

I am not talking about people who reasonably add the other side to the argument, making their points with believable referencing, argue a true not a false premise, and show validity in their post. I want them in my life; they expand my thinking.

I am talking about those whose first response is to denigrate the post they reply to while adding nothing of value. It would be very easy to give you an example at the moment.

Ohh dear the games up,
Your comment says all that needs to be said.
It would never occur to me that someone out in the ether is waiting to pounce on my every word.

Lucca Thu 12-Dec-19 09:55:24

Isn’t using the word “leftist “ bring political?

Bridgeit Thu 12-Dec-19 10:00:01

Who decides what is of value?
Who’s values should we go by? Only yours ?
Just ignore mine if they upset you
You obviously detest my presence on here
,very best wishes to you.
I am off to a sad occasion now, so please don’t think I am ignoring you.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 12-Dec-19 10:07:41

I would happily put you on "ignore", if it were possible, and never read another of your posts. You have added a couple to this thread but what have they added to the sum of it but spite. I really would not tolerate that in real life and wish I didn't have to on here. I don't think that is unreasonable.

I am sorry you have a sad occasion to go to but I don't expect or want a reply.

lavenderzen Thu 12-Dec-19 10:51:24

I cannot understand why it should be a political free zone today. If you don't like the threads don't read them.

People care passionately about politics and this country and I admire them and their views. Everyone has different opinions and I enjoy reading the threads if I have time.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 12-Dec-19 11:30:47

I don't think any of the internet is, or can be a political no-go area. For some reason, I have been receiving a number of Tory attack ads to my Facebook page. They are obviously raining them down on everyone they can. The last one was sponsored by this woman:

news.sky.com/story/general-election-woman-accused-after-posting-ads-costing-17-000-on-facebook-attacking-labour-11880162

It's about time we looked at just how much money is backing parties that isn't declared. I have reported it of course but I doubt Facebook can stop them.

sunseeker Thu 12-Dec-19 11:49:41

I don't often contribute to the political threads but I do start reading them as I am interested in different opinions, but stop once things turn nasty. So many generalisations are made about people simply based on the party they support. Tory - racist, Labour - anti-Semite.

If I were to post that all black people are drug dealers or that all Muslims are terrorists - I would quite rightly be condemned for saying so (and probably banned from GN). So why is it OK to brand all Tories racist or all Labour supporters anti-Semite

A difference of opinion doesn't have to become an unpleasant argument

PamelaJ1 Thu 12-Dec-19 13:42:26

I suggested this a while ago Maw and got shot down in ???
Never again?

jura2 Thu 12-Dec-19 16:15:33

It is possible to ignore me,You just have to Ignore Me
Neither do you need to tolerate me , you don’t need a wish to do this, you just need to scroll on by .
You have the choice & you have the will power, just use them.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 12-Dec-19 17:31:08

It is not all about you Bridgeit. I would just like the opportunity, as I do on other forums, to add the names of people whose posts I find do not add to my enjoyment of GN so post does not show. It would not affect any one else, they would still see you post unless they too chose to add you to their list. No one would know they were not being read by someone else. I really don't care, I cannot make it any clearer, I do not care for your posts or what you want to say to me just so you can snipe. People who write the sort of posts you have on here are simply not worth the time or energy.

Bridgeit Thu 12-Dec-19 17:36:39

You do not recognise Irony & are beginning to become obsessed, please move on.

SirChenjin Thu 12-Dec-19 17:44:40

The Conservative party emailed me earlier in the week asking me to donate to party funds and I’ve just received another email to say that Labour voters are turning out in high numbers and could I please ensure I vote. No idea why they felt I would appreciate a few emails from their rat hole or what it says about their campaign confused

Whitewavemark2 Thu 12-Dec-19 17:47:09

And me sirchen maybe they got the wrong lists

MawB Thu 12-Dec-19 18:27:17

I just felt that by this stage, nothing anybody says is going to change anybody’s opinion or how they vote, but just be more of the old same old.
Let’s face it, it’s all been said ad nauseam hence my suggestion.
All pigs refuelled and ready for take-off though. ?

We never get anything from the Tories. Perhaps they've noticed the Liberal Democrat poster at our house or maybe they've spotted us telling for the LibDems at the polling station. I recommend you do the same in future to fend off their unwelcome advances.

I mentioned earlier SirC that I got Tory bitch-fest earlier today for an hour or so. I reported one and it stopped. I have no idea why they thought I would be interested but if they are just going on our age and where we live or whatever they are going to get it very wrong which may mean they are wasting a lot of money. I do hope so.

Bridgeit Thu 12-Dec-19 19:48:47

I am not up for valuation to you or anyone else.GG
You are extremely rude & just can not accept others who express an opinion differently to your self.
Threads are not closed shops, as I have said before don’t read then if you don’t like my contributions .

Urmstongran Thu 12-Dec-19 20:06:40

Feelings & tensions appear to be running high tonight.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 12-Dec-19 20:10:52

Not here Urmstongran Mr.Gravy is out, I am on the sofa with the remote control, beautiful real fire burning and a nice chilled glass of white wine.
Que sera sera ?

Doodle Thu 12-Dec-19 20:12:38

Sounds nice grannyg may I join you? Cheers ?

Urmstongran Thu 12-Dec-19 20:15:08

Me too GG13! Sat on the sofa, just about to eat with a large chilled Pinot Grigio poured.

I should have said ‘on here’.
?

Bridgeit Thu 12-Dec-19 20:16:05

Yes Urmstongran , I wish they weren’t.
I have been accused of laying in wait for an opportunity to denigrate GG.
It seems that my opinion is not an opinion but denigration & that I am toxic.
Any advice please
