All the hyperbole, the grandstanding the rhetoric all over. We have a result and the British public have spoken. We have a conservative government.
Are we surprised?

EllanVannin Fri 13-Dec-19 09:12:32

The heading on the front of the Liverpool Echo :

Oh, No. City braced for five more years of pain.

Anniebach Fri 13-Dec-19 09:13:01

I did say Corbyn as leader would take us back to the 1983 election. Have been scorned by the Corbyn supporters here.

Nandalot Fri 13-Dec-19 09:23:18

So sad and very concerned for the future of the union, the future of the NHS and on a personal level the future of my family. My half Spanish, half British granddaughter has just finished her first term at a British University and she asked me this morning what does this mean for her and her Spanish boyfriend who is with her here working in the care sector. I have no answers but tried to stay positive.

EV I thought Boris was humble in his appreciation of people who have loaned him their vote. He is not Mrs. May. I honestly think Boris will endorse a ‘One Nation’ approach and Liverpool may yet warm to his policies.

Hope so.

Nightsky2 Fri 13-Dec-19 09:24:01

Phew. No Jeremy, no John McDonald ?.What a day for democracy.

FlexibleFriend Fri 13-Dec-19 09:27:07

Overjoyed.

Anniebach Fri 13-Dec-19 09:27:20

Wrong Nightsky, they will stay and work with Momentum
to train up the next leader from the far left.

Anannymous Fri 13-Dec-19 09:28:48

I am just pleased that someone has a majority.Feeling very positive today.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 13-Dec-19 09:29:20

Anniebach I think you are correct, and if so the Labour Party has learnt absolutely nothing in the last few years!

whywhywhy Fri 13-Dec-19 09:32:30

Bollox! If the labour party had a better leader they would have done better. Well I hope all the people who voted for this buffoon are now happy! He can shove Brexit up his A***!!!

JenniferEccles Fri 13-Dec-19 09:35:33

As soon as the exit polls predicted a Tory win the pound shot up.

That is such a good indication of how the markets feel about the result.

I am certainly not here to gloat and obviously some here are disappointed but please believe that it would have been a complete nightmare under Corbyn.

Boris realises the trust folk have put in him and I don’t think he will let us down.

maddyone Fri 13-Dec-19 09:38:36

Annie, you have said countless times that Corbyn would take us back to the 1983 election. How right you were. I think people need to understand that the vast majority simply don’t want the far left, bordering on communism kind of politics. I was afraid if Corbyn took power that we would be extremely vulnerable in the world, with basically no defence policy, and a leader who associates with terrorists. A frightening thought.

Urmstongran Fri 13-Dec-19 09:45:54

A hung Parliament would have been dispiriting.

The political threads (fewer) look SO different today. Many posters not posting.

QuaintIrene Fri 13-Dec-19 09:48:13

I agree maddyone
I personally found it worrying that JC seemed to think that everyone is reasonable, that there can be a compromise and good will out. The likes of Hamas just don’t think like that.
He was a liability.

GagaJo Fri 13-Dec-19 09:49:15

maddyone, time to move on. We Labour supporters have. He was the party leader. He will be no more. We'll get a new one.

The REASON there are less posters is because it's over! WHY are you still banging on about it?

annsixty Fri 13-Dec-19 09:56:11

I do not like BJ, BUT, he is the best of a very bad bunch.
Let him get on with the job now and prove we can trust him, I don’t at present, and let us see just what he is made of.

Urmstongran Fri 13-Dec-19 09:58:46

I think we are allowed THIS day to CELEBRATE and be joyous!

?????????????????

Brexit has been 3.5y on the back burner.

maddyone Fri 13-Dec-19 10:10:13

With great relief GagaJo, I am moving on. I am moving on getting Brexit done,

Anniebach Fri 13-Dec-19 10:11:16

Maddy yes I have been a flipping parrot, over and over I have said a far left party would repeat the 1983 election.

I said so from my experience working for the Labour Party for
over 50 years. Yes working , not dreaming a dream of bygone days .

I now predict ? - Corbyn, MacDonald, McClusky and Momentum are training up a female far left MP to take
over the leadership , perhaps Rebecca Long Bailey! Heaven
forbid.

maddyone Fri 13-Dec-19 10:11:30

By the way, I didn’t say there are fewer posters.
Let’s move on and get Brexit done.

Urmstongran Fri 13-Dec-19 10:14:10

Jess Phillips fancies her chances against Rebecca Long Bailey Anniebach

I agree, I think Labour will be aware of gender when choosing a new leader.

If it wasn’t for Momentum, Yvette Cooper would appeal more I think. Do you?

maddyone Fri 13-Dec-19 10:15:16

Rebecca Long Bailey has been mooted for next Labour leader Annie. I think she would be another disaster for the Labour Party. Labour need to look closely at their policies and move back to the centre left in my opinion Annie. Then they would be a credible opposition.

AllTheLs Fri 13-Dec-19 10:19:38

Urmstongran, it must have taken you ages to type out all those emojis. It took me 10 minutes to type out 4 celebratory icons on another thread. Oh, it is nice to be able to do so!

Opal Fri 13-Dec-19 10:21:25

The REASON there are less posters is because the usual holier than thou shouters have lost their argument - the country has spoken and it is NOT in favour of their politics. There is nothing left for them to say.

Yes Ug, I'm going to be celebrating all day grin.

Tooting29 Fri 13-Dec-19 10:21:42

Strangely relieved we have a definite result. Would have liked a smaller majority to keep him on his toes
