All the hyperbole, the grandstanding the rhetoric all over. We have a result and the British public have spoken. We have a conservative government. Are we surprised?
GagaJo (Fri 13-Dec-19 07:55:03) I agree with you totally. With almost all the MSM and the BBC as well under the control of Tories, democracy does not exist here as it did.
Delighted and relieved. Now we can move forward. What came out over and over again from the doorstep was: 'they (MPs) overturned a democratic vote, and that is not right.' As for a poor turn out, I watched throughout the day as the elderly struggled into the polling station through torrential rain, on their zimmer frames, crutches and mobility scooters, and a constant stream of voters of all ages from 7 am until 10pm.
I expected a hung parliament as well, quite surprised at the majority. I am pleased on the whole as Corbyn is quite dangerous I think. As we live in France we are obviously concerned about what happens next. C'est la vie.
Oh and the media types will be shocked! The sneering from Andrew Marr, Channel 4 news, Polly Toynbee - Adam Boulton on Sky - well the people have shown them!
Interesting how the turnout was below that of 2017, although over 60%.
Interesting to see how some are blaming the media? Why? Yet again, some cannot believe that others can actually make their own minds up and have an opinion.
The People have spoken. Again! I’m not one bit surprised at the result. Our area which was a Labour heartland, working class, has turned a Blue. The reason? Brexit!
As you can guess, I feel very differently today- as Gagajo. We have become the 51st State, without any of the rights- just as vassals- and worse, we have began the very dangerous process of dismantling peace and prosperity in Europe.
Looking at the voting map for different age groups- I am ashamed and so disappointed my generation voted to blight the future of their grand-children, for a few more quid in the pocket.
Watch the brain drain begin- and those nurses and doctors we desperately need- and watch them not being replaced either.
I have personally everything to gain from Johnson's win- but I am very proud I didn't vote to make me richer and so glad to be out of step, mind and heart with my generation.
Yes Urmstongran, the people have shown them. They were told that they didn’t know what they were voting for, they voted the wrong way, they were racist, uneducated, and that the result was too close. Well it’s not close now. The people want Brexit. So Boris will get it done.
I feel furious that Corbynisim has morphed the Labour Party into a far left party. The majority of us are towards the centre in our views, either centre left or centre right. Well the result is a decisive win for the Tories and now Johnson will no longer by dependent on the ERG I hope that we have a moderate Brexit. I have been an avid Remainer but now accept that that ship has sailed.
Jura, I don’t think the result is about people having a few more quid in the pocket at all. It’s about Brexit, and Corbyn’s unsuitability to be Prime Minister.
I've lost faith in British people this morning. I grew up believing in the basic decency of the British people and vote after vote, comment after comment... Its gone.
I agree with yehbutnobut, jura, and others. We are all going to hell in a hand basket..... What hope now for the NHS, education, care of the elderly....? We are going exactly the same way as the USA....so depressing.
jura2 I voted for what I believe will be a better future for my children and grandchildren, but my beliefs aren't the same as yours. I love my family as much as you love yours, why would I vote to damage their future? Just because others hold different political views to you, doesn't mean they are bad people, or "shameful". You don't get to claim the moral high ground, we all voted in the way we thought was best for our families, I assure you.
