I could weep for this country - now Boris has the opportunity to do whatever Trade deals he wants with Trump - goodbye NHS as we know it, hello increased drug prices and chlorinated chickens filled with hormones and antibiotics - goodbye animal welfare standards, and may God help the poor, the disabled and the homeless. At least I have some comfort in knowing that most of Scotland voted SNP, and there's therefore a chance that we might be able to force Johnson to backtrack into "allowing" our right to a second referendum.

It turned out just how I expected (sadly). It was a vote for Brexit and against Corbyn - who just wasn't popular.

Some Labour voters I know actually voted Tory this time (while holding their noses) as their determination for Brexit was put above all else.

I found the news so depressing this morning, with the prospect of many years to sort out the mess.

well we now know the buffoon did once have a soul. sold now for the awfulness to come. children let down by our education system, unable to train for the jobs we most need. the sick? the lucky in hospital corridors, most didn't get there in time (too far away, local hospital closed). benefits? forget it - even the sick and disabled. but at least we got the vote to leave the eu, with all the lies we were fed - on the side of the bus!!!

Can't believe some of the stuff on here, all I can say is don't get ill unless you have private medicine, fork out for the basics for your grandchildren's schools, don't be surprised if the crime rate goes up/you never see a police officer - the promised increase in numbers will not even get them to what they were, give generously to the homeless - you are their only hope now, I could go on but you won't be reading this. I hope I'm proved wrong and you can say I told you so, I didn't vote on Brexit lines in this election but for the benefit of the many not myself, I'm fortunate enough to have enough money to survive, hope you do too

My neighbour is a midwife at an NHS hospital. She tells me they are on their knees and are now desperately concerned about how things will develop.
My daughter is an adoption social worker and she is worried that her work levels will go through the ceiling. We will be governed by elitist males who are totally out of kilter with many in the country. Their strings are being pulled by millionaire bankers, press owners etc. How have we come to having more food banks than outlets for McDonalds?? Let’s hope none of us require social care in the next 5 years as it will be non existent and don’t get me started on leaving the EU!!!

I won't have to wait long. Half my family are about to move to another EU country where their skills are valued.

Well said Urmstongran. I’ve stayed away from the political threads for 48 hours as emotions have been high but you’ve been magnanimous and conciliatory in victory - as has Boris. Long may this inclusiveness continue.

I am very happy. I am not naive. I know that there are rocky roads to go down before everything can be sorted. I didn’t agree with the massive contribution that the top countries put in to run the EU for so many countries that give small contributions but gain the same benefits. I think the EU grew too big and changed vastly from the Common Market that it was supposed to be. I am looking forward to a better future. I only hope no-one else thinks of yet another spanner to throw in the works.

I think you’ll find it is a case of voting for the least of a bad lot and just one sentence in the Labour manifesto that made me feel extremely anxious. It referred to the decriminalisation of abortion. It didn’t explain that this involves abortion on demand up to and including the day of birth as is happening in New York and other states. What happens in the U.S is often copied here. It is infanticide by another name and just filled me with a deep abhorrence that any civilisation could even contemplate such an inhuman act for one second.

How long does anyone think it will take to get brexit done?

A brexit party MEP told us thirty years. Jacob Rees Mogg said fifty. It certainly wont be done in our lifetimes.

Meanwhile, according to all economic forecasts, the UK will go down the pan, more businesses and more of our brightest and best people will go abroad and before too long it is likely that the UK will be no more as first Scotland, then NI leave.

Patriotic British people wanted to remain in the EU and thanks to our corrupted democracy they are being deprived of their rights as EU citizens.

No wonder so many doctors, scientists and other professional are about to join the brexit brain drain

The daftest thing the Tories did (assisted by LibDem) was austerity a la George Osbourne. Hateful man. Cut services to the bone over 8 years. Decimated social care and council services - libraries, SureStart, cuts to police, bursaries taken from people who might have otherwise trained to be nurses etc (then guess what - horror! We had a shortage so enticed fully qualified ones from poorer countries) - and all for what? Balancing the books?? MaizieD explained that was never necessary. (Where is she today by the way?).

Anyway.

That was then and this is now.

Austerity is over - officially.

Boris - a strong leader - is in charge, not weak Theresa May. Boris has a majority government and will have now all his MP’s behind him.

I truly believe he intends to bring the U.K. together. Money for Scotland. NI to vote in 4y whether they are happy or not (and in the meantime the best of both worlds - so much so that Scotland who also voted to Remain are a bit peeved).

Money will start to flow. Boris will keep his promise - I honestly feel he does CARE. He wants to be a good PM. He knows many people have put their trust in him by voting against their usual principles and I don’t think he will let them down. In fact, I think he’d like to do well and KEEP their votes.

We can only wait, give him the benefit of the doubt and trust he will make us proud.

I don’t actually read any fascist, hate comments on here, just opinions. If you are a remainer, you wouldn’t like the comments. Quite frankly though over the past 3 years the comments about those who wish to leave the EU have not been pleasant from retainers.

For those who are thinking of living in the EU, any of the countries would still welcome you with open arms. If you become resident, you are entitled to free healthcare in some of the countries and will still be after Brexit takes place. You will still be able to rent/buy a property- they want your money. Prior to joining the Common market you were able to buy property abroad.

The remain posters spread lies and untruths regarding what you can and cannot do past, present and future.
