Was given some cadbury's chocolates recently, could not eat them, far too sweet. Daughter says since sugar tax they put in more artificial sweetener in, chemicals, arrgh, always bought her the with sugar versions of everything, trying to avoid chemicals. As for QS, they are made by Nestle, a company I have been boycotting for 50 years due to unethical trading. The latest is bottling the water from Native American reservations (for which they pay the government peanuts) and then selling it back to the Natives and others in plastic bottles.
I try to buy fair trade chocolate, big brands use child slaves in their supply line.

Like Wheniwasyourage I won't buy Nestle on principle and haven't done so since the late 1970s so it would have to be Rose's.... but actually I'd prefer a good dark chocolate personally.

I'm with ginny on this.

seadragon Tue 17-Dec-19 10:16:43

Neither...the individual sweets have shrunk and look and taste cheap. They come in a horrid plastic box as well. I'd rather pay more for environmentally friendly hand made organic dark chocolates

Both get worse and worse. The chocolates and the tins get smaller and the chocolate is not so nice any more. I buy a bar of Lindt hazelnut milk chocolate for a £2.50 or so and it's delicious.

I am looking forward to the post Christmas knocky-downies from the quality chocolate outlets like Thorntons and Hotel Chocolate. One year I bought ten packets of Thornton's chocolate snowmen for 10p each. John Lewis sell off their broken chocolate Christmas shaped products for bargainacious prices. I don't care if something's cracked if it tastes nice.

Neither of them for sure. I agree with some of you here, I do prefer M&S. They do delicious chocolates all year round!

Not for me. I have a large box of Amalie chocolates which may or may not get shared over the holidays. Only I know their hiding place! Having said that it used to be roses as they don't have those horrible toffees.

BusterTank Tue 17-Dec-19 10:24:54

Definitely roses , quality street seem to have a funny smell about them .

Celebrations, Heroes but in view of a real tin instead of plastic would go for Quality Street. Of course I would never eat any, purely for guests!

Molly10 Tue 17-Dec-19 10:27:10

I enjoy the odd chocolate from either but don't eat as much chocolate as I used to.

For the lady who likes M & S chocolates: Thorntons used to make these. Not sure if they still do.

Give me a bar of Galaxy any day!

olliebeak Tue 17-Dec-19 10:39:15

Quality Street - for the 'Green Triangle' and the 'Big Purple Nutty' one!

olliebeak Tue 17-Dec-19 10:41:12

Have to say that the very old Roses advert put me off them - the Norman Vaughan one that claimed 'Roses grow all over you!'.

Growing0ldDisgracefully Tue 17-Dec-19 10:57:14

Roses, can't stand all the blasted toffees in Quality Street. Why don't they pack them in tins anymore? My favourite (and expensive) chocs are handcrafted from a local shop but no good for buying to hand round @ £8 for a box of 8 sweets...

Aepgirl Tue 17-Dec-19 10:57:39

As long as it’s chocolate, who cares. The ‘special ones’ are hidden just for me.

Willow500 Tue 17-Dec-19 11:01:21

I used to like Roses but they're not the same any more although that also has to do with my loss of smell and taste. I can remember boxes of Milk Tray with the lime barrel which I loved and Fry's 5 fruit bars. I find Thorntons too sweet. Lidl's and Aldi's chocolate is probably as good if not better these days.

Jnorma Tue 17-Dec-19 11:14:30

Quality Street for the coconut ones for me and of course a coconut Toblerone - yum!

Bazza Tue 17-Dec-19 11:19:02

Neither, they don’t taste like they used to. I’ve bought a giant pack of Lindt truffles, currently of offer for £10 at Waitrose. Grrrr, paid full price. Still, I’ve managed not to open them by hiding them in the shed.

Margs Tue 17-Dec-19 11:20:18

Quality Street of course. But I wish Green & Blacks made Family Assortment tins. Please?

Blinko Tue 17-Dec-19 11:26:02

For me it's Aldi, Lindt, Hotel Chocolat, Thorntons or M&S. I dislike Hersheys horrible candy stuff - you really can't call it chocolate.

I'm afraid Jura2 may be right. We're going to get a whole lot more Amercian rubbish in the not too distant future...

jura2 Tue 17-Dec-19 11:37:29

Blinko - sat on my hands for a while before saying it- and expected to be shot in flames for ruining Christmas - so thanks for acknowledging.

HurdyGurdy Tue 17-Dec-19 11:42:38

Neither since they dropped the coffee creams

After Eights and Elizabeth Shaw orange crisp chocs, or Matchmakers (or are they matchsticks??)

notanan2 Tue 17-Dec-19 11:47:26

Green and blacks do do packs of minis. I get them for stockings

Blinko Tue 17-Dec-19 11:47:42

One of the reasons I voted Remain, Jura2... Europe is streets ahead in terms of not just chocolate, but food in general. And I do like me food!

(No, I'm not looking to discuss the B word all over again, thanks)

notanan2 Tue 17-Dec-19 11:48:05

Lindt is the all time worst though IMO
