Lol

Theoddbird Tue 17-Dec-19 11:58:12

Neither.

NaughtyNanna Tue 17-Dec-19 12:03:27

None of the mixed tins etc as DD has a severe nut allergy. I see our John Lewis has the pick and mix option but it does look a lot more expensive than just buying the tins in Tesco. I think a trip to Hotel Chocolat is in order.

Just remembered I also need diabetic chocs for one guest! And will have to check for gelatine as we have a veggie coming too....

Honestly- if you are going to have the calories - have good quality dark chocolate, which has ... chocolate and cocoa butter in it. Calling this palm oil + sugar chocolate should be illegal, truly.

Cut right down this year as it's often me that eats what's left ! Neither grandchild is fussed about sweets really and are still eating those from Halloween Bought a small box of Quality Street to put out when visitors call and will have a decent fruit bowl. But I confess that I do love far too much a decent home made mince pie ?

Mapleleaf Tue 17-Dec-19 12:15:52

Both! (Though I pass on the toffees). ?
I agree about the quality chocolate being the best, but I'm not going to turn my nose up at a roses or quality street sweet (except the toffees - see above).

jura2 Tue 17-Dec-19 12:16:36

Always mix good quality mince meat with grated apple to take some of the sweetness away.

Tamayra Tue 17-Dec-19 12:21:27

Can you buy Black Magic these days ?
I loved the half moon shaped coffee cream Ahhhhh

sandelf Tue 17-Dec-19 12:44:29

Glad to see we are not the only ones going for less and better. Decent chocolate is not nearly so 'moreish' = dissatisfying. Hotel Choc for us.

pen50 Tue 17-Dec-19 12:48:59

Quality Street for me, every time - especially a Toffee Pen50....

endlessstrife Tue 17-Dec-19 12:55:42

Definitely Quality Street, but only because of the green triangles!?

grannydarkhair Tue 17-Dec-19 13:09:52

Neither except for the penny toffees (even though I broke a filling on them one year). Cadburys is disgusting nowadays, and was disappointed with Hotel Chocolat. I won a mixed selection from Chocolate and Love last Christmas, really lovely, good quality. I highly recommend it. Green &Black's and Lily O'Brien's is also nice, as is some of M&S.

Scribbles Tue 17-Dec-19 13:13:10

NaughtyNanna, I found it impossible to get "diabetic" chocolates earlier this year when I tried to get some for a gift. Neither Thorntons nor Hotel Chocolat make them now and none of the general sweetie shops I tried could help.

I think Leonidas used to sell them but, as I'm no longer in the London area, I haven't been anywhere near one of their shops for several years.

tavimama Tue 17-Dec-19 13:41:54

Quality Street. But not buying this year. DH is a Postman and last year we had 5 boxes as tips! By Easter we were fed up of chocolates!

grannybuy Tue 17-Dec-19 13:47:07

Neither. I prefer Green & Blacks, Lindt and Hotel Chocolat.

newnanny Tue 17-Dec-19 13:54:05

I have bought both for children but for me I have bought a giant red strawberry cream my favourite. grin

newnanny Tue 17-Dec-19 13:56:07

No one eats the green triangles in our house. Our son takes them in to work after Xmas with the nut ones.

endlessstrife Tue 17-Dec-19 14:00:36

I’ll gladly take them off your hands newnanny, if they are a problem to you!?

Keeper1 Tue 17-Dec-19 14:12:51

I am happy to take any unwanted coffee ones, just saying ....

sarahellenwhitney Tue 17-Dec-19 14:13:34

Gone off both. It is now Thorntons pricey but worth it.

Merryweather Tue 17-Dec-19 14:26:32

White Chocolate is the work of the devil. I like Cadbury but they don't include the coffee creams anymore. I do like truffles, chocolate brazils but my new favourite is m&s Prosecco caramel, mmmmmm.
Merry Christmas xx

NaughtyNanna Tue 17-Dec-19 14:27:50

@Scribbles thanks for warning me about the difficulty of getting diabetic chocolates. I will try to get them now so I've more chance of getting to my shop of last resort a little way away if necessary!

Sheilasue Tue 17-Dec-19 15:01:44

I don’t buy them now the chocolates not the same we always used to buy them in the 70s/80s but they are rubbish now.
I rather spend the money on a good box of chocolates like hotel chocolate.

Ninjanana2 Tue 17-Dec-19 15:48:33

Which ever one has a coffee flavoured chocolate!

annep1 Tue 17-Dec-19 16:21:18

Helgawills I didn't know that about Nestlé. Disgusting.

For me, hotel chocolat 75% + dark chocolate batons.
Lindt dark truffles (occasionally )
Weakness giant chocolate buttons.
I love all these but I limit them. I shouldn't be eating any.
