Not anymore, since each have moved manufacturing to foreign lands their flavours have been changed.

As an aside, why do the blasted americans have to be determined to destroy our national confections while foisting onto our children their foul confectionery, including Orion? AND why do we let them?

Blinko Tue 17-Dec-19 16:50:04

What's orion? I must have missed it, somehow. Mind you, if it's American and for children, maybe that's not a bad thing.

absthame Tue 17-Dec-19 17:11:12

Sorry oreo. Damned auto correct doesn't know better angry

timetogo2016 Tue 17-Dec-19 17:21:16

Thorntons for me.
Roses/quality St tastes too sweet these days.
And they are smaller in everyway shape or form.
As are the containers.

I really wouldn’t buy so-called ‘diabetic’ chocolate. They usually contain polyols to sweeten them. They still have the same number of carbs and they also have a laxative effect. My son has Type 1 diabetes and I can assure you that most of the diabetes community wouldn’t touch them! Better to have a little of a quality normal chocolate, or avoid altogether. Maybe this is why the market for diabetic chocolate is disappearing, as people wise-up.

I was given some Hotel Chocolat by my son who was given a box and who didn’t like them.
Neither did I .
I passed them on (not as a gift because I had tried one or two)
They are extremely overpriced and as someone said earlier I think ,it is the Emperor’s new clothes.
Give me Sainsburys ,Lidl’s and Galaxy any day .

Tooting29 Tue 17-Dec-19 18:23:57

Neither too sweet. But like a nice dark at least 70% chocolate with chillies or sea salt

annep1 Tue 17-Dec-19 18:53:12

They are pricey Lancslass . I mentioned them as a favourite. But I happily eat Sainsbury and Tesco high cocoa chocolate...one square a day.

EthelJ Tue 17-Dec-19 19:01:29

I would say both. grin

farview Tue 17-Dec-19 19:24:22

Green&Blacks the darker the better...

Caro57 Tue 17-Dec-19 19:29:44

1767 were my favourites,my husband bought me the superb box at Easter and Christmas. Happy memories

Shropshirelass Wed 18-Dec-19 09:30:11

Neither, I sometimes buy Hotel Chocolate, dark of course!

annep1 Wed 18-Dec-19 11:09:35

1767?? Never heard of that brand.

Jaxie Wed 18-Dec-19 18:48:49

No wonder they are so cheap: they taste Nothing like they originally did: stacks of them in every supermarket tempting the fatties ( like me) to get fatter.

Sara65 Wed 18-Dec-19 18:58:59

I have bought a tin of quality street, but my favourite is white chocolate. I don’t crave chocolate as much as I used to, which is good!

Doodle Wed 18-Dec-19 19:18:26

Black Magic. Bliss ?

Daisyboots Wed 18-Dec-19 20:12:23

For me personally I would prefer nuts or something savoury but for the family Quality Street. I have never understood why people think Thorntons chocolate is so good because I dont like the taste of it at all. Of course we get all manner of European chocolates some I hadnt heard if before we moved here.

Here in Portugal we are only able to buy Quality Street in packets or tins. I think the tins contain about 480g. Last week DH bought some Quality Street tins so as it was my last day of radiotherapy I popped two tins and a Christmas card into a Christmas bag and gave it to the young men and women who work in the RT department as they had been so kind if I hadnt understood something in Portuguese and had explained it in English. They were really pleased and were soon munching away. One young man said what he had loved when he worked at a hospital in England for a while was Christmas pudding with all the alcohol in it.

Neither! Only good quality dark chocolate for me. The only thing worth piling on the calories for.

infoman Tue 24-Dec-19 07:03:16

Strange,I have had an automatic message from Amazon selling tubs for nearly ten quid each.
Although I think a lot of supermarkets are now selling the tubs off very cheaply.

Resurgam123 Tue 31-Dec-19 07:58:10

Those sweets are far too sickly for my taste.
No thank you.

Aldi have a good range of chocolates that are not over sweet like most others.

Dinahmo Tue 31-Dec-19 17:52:55

Prestat truffles. They used to be in South Molton Street (also home to Peller & Rigby -corsetieres to the Royals) and made chocolates to die for. V expensive so only bought at Christmas for my parents. Also Lindt 70% plus.

Made pannettone b & b pudding , with one I bought specially in Lidl and cream. Delicious.

IMO both roses and Quality Street are just not the same as they used to be. Completely different taste. I userd to love Thorntons Continental but the last few years they hav e not tasted nearly as rich as they used to. Everybody making things 'cheaper'. Rather pay more and enjoy them.
