Was taken from Sandringham to Edward 7th hospital ,London for observation in relation to a pre existing condition.

ReadyMeals Mon 23-Dec-19 12:40:24

I am afraid this is going to controversial Anniebach, but so might Philip have been sentenced for that car crash if he hadn't been who he was. A normal man has just received 6 months for hurting someone in his car when he should have known better than to be driving. In Philip's case I think it's been acknowledged since that his vision was no longer good enough to drive on public roads, and in the other man's case he was a bit tired when he got into the car. 6 months versus "not in the public interest". Anyway they were both accidents, not condemning either of them. Just saying that criticism of public figures and repeating things we read in the tabloids and even choosing to believe them is in the scope of this section.

Callistemon Mon 23-Dec-19 12:17:14

And so is calling someone MerylPeryl when their username is quite obviously something different.

inkcog Mon 23-Dec-19 11:57:41

Meryl/Peryl, I don't quit the site. I give up on this thread. It is beyond daft .

Anniebach Mon 23-Dec-19 11:35:12

ReadyMeals Rolf Harris is serving a prison sentence, fact.

The poster didn’t post facts, she/he posted gossip, with the exception of Andrew and he isn’t in hospital is he ?

Anniebach Mon 23-Dec-19 11:30:21

annepl your question - would I accept from you money you had stolen had no connection with inheritance .

Do you mean the Queen should return Balmoral and Sandringham which she inherited ? Who should she return it to ?

Perhaps the Windsors should appear on Children in Need waving cheques but they never disclose if they do or don’t give
money to those in need.

ReadyMeals Mon 23-Dec-19 11:26:23

Anniebach, yes I am afraid that it probably is acceptable within the scope of a News and Politics section. I just so happens that this person is a member of the royal family that many of us love, which perhaps makes it more sensitive than if we were for instance talking about a foreign politician or a celebrity, or someone like Rolf Harris who I suspect may have a thread about him when the time comes to hear that he's in hospital.

annep1 Mon 23-Dec-19 11:07:29

Yes MawB that is nasty. And totally irrelevant.

But why are monarchists so determined not to see the others viewpoint. Anniebach you didnt answer my question a few pages back. Just saying....
And now I am off until at least the new year.

I hope you all have a good Christmas and that includes Prince Philip!

Callistemon Mon 23-Dec-19 10:34:41

sodapop I don't understand people who complain about threads becoming unpleasant and then continue to post on them. If a thread is not to your liking just leave it and move on to another one.

I might be inclined to agree with you; however, I think stating a view about a thread being unpleasant and then finding that it becomes even worse or that someone has deliberately misinterpreted your post could warrant a further post to clarify.

MerylStreep Mon 23-Dec-19 10:29:23

Inkcog
i quit Again?

Anniebach Mon 23-Dec-19 10:25:27

Being nasty about a man coming to the end of his life and using tabloid smears to do so is acceptable?

ReadyMeals Mon 23-Dec-19 10:16:13

But Goldenage wasn't being nasty TO other GNers, she was being nasty ABOUT public figures not on here. There is a significant difference IMHO.

MawB Mon 23-Dec-19 10:01:47

inkcog asks “where is this nastiness because I can’t see it.”
Might I suggest you start here?
GoldenAge Sun 22-Dec-19
I'm not a royalist but even if I were I wouldn't have a shred of respect for Prince Philip, or indeed this particular royal family since the role models it has been sending us for years and years are quite despicable, yet people continue to worship the royals as though it were a group of demi-gods. Principle Philip has had a mistress for decades - it's a matter of public record and nobody bats an eyelid, Prince Charles had a mistress at the time he was getting married to Diana, and Prince Andrew has disgraced his wife and daughters, and the wider family
etc etc.

Callistemon Mon 23-Dec-19 09:51:19

Making snide comments about the preferential treatment being given to a 98 year old man who has served out country for so long does seem unpleasant

I agree and with others who have said so.

This is a Veteran of WW2, probably one of the few surviving ones in fact, who is ill and in hospital.
Just because it is a private hospital and he went to a public school is no reason for some of the shocking comments on this thread.

M0nica Mon 23-Dec-19 09:34:53

Some times threads become so unpleasant, that someone needs to prepared to put their head above the barricade and say so.

Evil triumphs because good people do nothing . I am not suggesting I am particularly good, but there are levels discourse should not fall below.

ReadyMeals Mon 23-Dec-19 09:30:46

If everyone who uses private health care stopped and changed to the NHS, it would be even MORE stretched than it is already. Thank goodness for the people who pay for themselves is all I can say.

inkcog Mon 23-Dec-19 09:24:33

I quit.

Anniebach Mon 23-Dec-19 09:13:08

Why are some resentful of the royal family having private
health care , if I was against it I would be against private health care not just one family.

inkcog Mon 23-Dec-19 09:03:59

Annie, I do know the RF are not the only family with private health care. If they were it would be a very tiny system wouldn't it?

Thank you though for your comment.

sodapop Mon 23-Dec-19 09:03:01

If I could afford private health care in the UK I would do so. It's up to each individual how they spend their money.

lavenderzen Mon 23-Dec-19 09:01:06

I don't think PP will be home for Christmas, maybe. I saw a picture of the Queen yesterday going to church with, I think it was Sophie, she had a lovely green outfit on. Her family will be with her which is a comfort.

Anniebach Mon 23-Dec-19 08:55:10

The royal family are not the only people who have private
health care.

ReadyMeals Mon 23-Dec-19 08:54:10

Yep, he was in hospital a few years ago over xmas, but I can't remember which of his illnesses it was for.

Shropshirelass Mon 23-Dec-19 08:42:00

Didn't the same thing happen at Christmas time a couple of years ago? I have something in the back of my mind. The last picture I saw of him was terrible, he looked how my Dad looked in the final stages of heart failure. The Queen is marvellous though for her age.

inkcog Mon 23-Dec-19 08:37:25

Where is this poison and nastiness on this thread because I just don't see it?

We are allowed an opinion, the sadness is everything is binary.

I can feel sad for the Queen and slightly frustrated that the RF have access to immediate top quality medical care whilst others do not and value the NHS.

BradfordLass72 Mon 23-Dec-19 07:09:29

I am by no means a monarchist but I do see that they are all trapped in their situation and have coped with it as best they could.
No one can help the family into which they are born and the strict protocol the royals are forced to accept has done many of them a great deal of harm.

Nor does it make sense, however much of a social conscience one has - and despite what Jesus said, for anyone to insist someone, 'give all that you have to the poor'.
And be blamed for if if they don't.

This applies equally to me on a pension I receive from the State, as to Prince Philip with $30 million.

We both have a right to do what we wish with the money we have, however it was acquired.

I feel sorry for the the old bloke in hospital; I felt extremely sorry for his wife when, during the Falkland's War, she knew her son was flying helicopters in an appallingly dangerous situation.
She looked, as I would have, if my own son was deployed: haggard and desperately worried.

I would love to have just a fraction of their money, it would make my life so much more comfortable and pleasant - but I would not swap places with any one of them, shackled as they are to royal status, for every penny they possess.
