Borrowed from a Friend on FB. Just to make people clear of what, as a nation, we have voted for:

In his first four days as Prime Monster of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has:

Cut the disability benefits of 650,000 vulnerable humans.

Rolled back on plans to address the climate change emergency.

Banned any boycott of Israel and supported their renewed offensive against the unarmed civilians of Gaza.

Removed child refugee legal protections.

Rolled back his pledge to increase nurses for the NHS.

Told us that the NHS is no longer protected from a trade deal with the US.

Told us that future deals will be conducted in secret.

Blocked anyone without photo ID from voting in future elections.

Drafted new constituency boundaries to keep the Tories in power indefinitely.

Dismissed renewed calls for a second Scottish independence referendum causing further disharmony.

Stated that workers rights and Trade Unions are under threat.

Rolled back pledge to increase the national living wage.

Announced an increase in MP’s wages to £82k a year

Scrapped EU directives on holiday pay, sick leave and working hours.

Stated that Brexit is happening by the the 31st of January with the worst no-deal scenario yet.

The idea of a deserving and undeserving poor underpinned the workhouse system, and that of the parish relief that preceded it, and has no place in the fifth richest country in the world.

EXACTLY this.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 24-Dec-19 23:04:43

We we vote for has nothing whatsoever todo with you feel about the vulnerable in society, its about compassion and attitude. I feel that todays society is all about me, me and me.

Doodledog Tue 24-Dec-19 23:18:28

We we vote for has nothing whatsoever todo with you feel about the vulnerable in society, its about compassion and attitude. I feel that todays society is all about me, me and me.

I might be being dim, but what's the difference between caring about the vulnerable and having compassion?

Eloethan Wed 25-Dec-19 01:09:36

How can stating facts, and supplying sources, be described as "scaremongering"?

As there are people still fixating on the supposed devil in human form, Corbyn, and who describe people who support him in the most derogatory way, why on earth shouldn't those who feel appalled about Johnson express their views and provide information which shows the reasons for their distrust of him?

It is ridiculous to suggest major issues like the crisis in housing, mental health care, addiction, etc etc can be solved by individuals taking on these responsibilities themselves. There has up until now been a degree of consensus as to how a progressive society and its politicians should operate but it seems now it is deemed legitimate to mount campaigns and make speeches designed to mislead, and give assurances that were never intended to be honoured.

Can you substantiate the questions you posted that have been asked of claimants for disability benefits MadeInYorkshire?

Unless you can, I don't believe you.*

If you were to see the hundreds of pages on Facebook of people asking for help after they have had these assessments (73% of which are overturned at Tribunal - another huge waste of Taxpayers money, and why are they, because they are unfair!!) then you may well see that I am not lying and I resent you saying that I am!

A couple of articles, and there are thousands of them ....

Labaik Wed 25-Dec-19 09:25:08

Have some of you actually read what MaidinYorkshire has written or are you too busy sticking your head in the sand sad. You see links to what the government is doing, then have a first hand account saying how bad things actually are, and then you totally ignore her. Might some of you Johnson lovers have the decency to reply to her...angry...

henetha Wed 25-Dec-19 09:52:06

Good grief, can we not have a rest from all this today please!

Jabberwok Wed 25-Dec-19 09:57:45

Amen to that hentha!

growstuff Wed 25-Dec-19 10:30:54

For some people the 25th December is just another day in the calendar henetha. For some it's quite grim.

GagaJo Wed 25-Dec-19 11:31:56

henetha and Jabberwok, WHY are you on here if you disapprove so much?

I accept we all have different political points of view. But as Labaik said, surely you have compassion for those affected by government decisions/changes?

Or do you not? There are 5 or 6 posters on these forums who come across as being totally selfish and lacking in compassion. Thankfully they are the extreme minority.

I don't understand how people end up that way. I'm a 'have' not a 'have not'. I'm THANKFUL for it. But it doesn't stop me caring about those who are less fortunate than me, doesn't stop me wanting to help, doesn't stop me being prepared to pay more tax / national insurance to support the vulnerable in our society.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 25-Dec-19 13:19:23

Hentha, did you read the title of the thread before you came on it, did you not understand what the thread was about. So I suggest if you want a rest from all this as you put it I suggest you stop read political threads and go back to your knitting.

Alexa Wed 25-Dec-19 13:30:04

Yes indeed it was Xmas Even and if you had watched the new version of A Christmas Carol on BBC television you would have seen that Christmas is not superficial at all.

The Christ Child can fail to thrive if we don't pay attention to his needs.

GracesGranMK3 Wed 25-Dec-19 16:30:39

GagJo, this was never going to go well. The Great British public in general would rather cut off their own arm than admit they were wrong

I'm afraid you are right Starblaze. There is a lot of fingers in ears and of la, la, la-ing on this thread. Absolutely no comment on what he has done. Let's not worry about the truth. As May would say, nothing has changed with these people lacking knowledge and almost abhorring its acquisition.

We ought to be knowledgeable. Democracy is in need of knowledge. The person lacking in knowledge is victim to those who pretend to be knowledgeable or pretend to be. ... We saw this in Plato. Lack of knowledge makes us such an ignorant mass, susceptible to the shimmering whip of the trainer. If we do not know we cannot know whether what is discussed is valid. *

This is all an obvious truth to those who have been educated to appreciate and understand the value of knowledge in our knowledge society. For those stuck in the industrial age, they seem to wear a lack of knowledge as a badge of honour and thus we get:

same old, same old from the same one, same one
All of the above points are fairytales.
definitely prefer Boris to President Xi!
Scaremongering and room and gloom!
For goodness sake stop the melodramatic catastrophising.
Will you be posting your daily anti-Boris thread tomorrow ...
Is the OP someone else with a new name - just wondering!

Not a single denier saying why the OP isn't true or giving more knowledge that limited the concerns about Johnson doing these things. It is all about denying that the new Emporer has no clothes. These posts are simply telling us that truth is wicked and knowledge is despised if it upsets these people or their strongly-held beliefs.

Well said Gracesgran.

Smileless2012 Wed 25-Dec-19 17:26:49

Thank you for the links MadeInYorkshire. It wasn't my intention to call you a liar and for that I apologise.

What I should have said was the examples you gave were so outrageous that I found them hard to believe.

Tooting29 Wed 25-Dec-19 18:32:44

Give it a rest ladies its Christmas Day.

growstuff Wed 25-Dec-19 18:54:01

Disability and poverty don't rest.

Starblaze Wed 25-Dec-19 18:57:13

I find it deeply saddening, I also find it very hard to understand why people would rather cry "scaremongering" or insult the OP and anyone showing the slightest worry or empathy than just not comment and not look totally heartless.

Jaycee5 Wed 25-Dec-19 19:19:29

GagaJo I agree but this seems to be a site that bears out the statisics about older people being right wing. It is hard to fight ageist comments on other sites and forums about older people being selfish and not caring for the least fortunate after five minutes on a Gransnet political thread.
No one is going to respond directly to any threads you put up. Facts are mean and people don't want to deal with them. Far easier just to go to 'Corbyn didn't sing the National Anthem that one time' than consider how many more premature deaths there are going to be and what we are going to do when the NHS has gone.
Good try and I commend you for your resilience in not giving up.

Summerlove Wed 25-Dec-19 19:20:06

starblaze I think it’s because they are optimists who truly don’t want to have their rose coloured glasses knocked off.

If they’ve never experienced something, it can to too outrageous to believe.

Tooting, if the subject isn’t to your liking, you’re always able to enjoy Christmas offline...why look at a thread and call people out? As you recommend, “give it a rest”.

GagaJo Wed 25-Dec-19 19:22:10

Tooting29, not sure families in B&B hostels are having a great Christmas, or rough sleepers or the disabled, waiting for carers to go in - possibly the only face they'll see all day, for 30 minutes.

Those that HATE Jeremy Corbyn should remember, he spends Christmas day at his local homeless hostel.

Starblaze Wed 25-Dec-19 19:24:25

I used to be a very optimistic person until I realised I wasn't wholly in control of my own destiny....

GagaJo Wed 25-Dec-19 19:27:38

Me too Starblaze. Although, tbh, I think I still am. I feel selfish saying it, but mostly I'm OK financially. But there are LOTS of people that aren't. And we now live in a country that doesn't want to help them. Scary times.

GracesGranMK3 Wed 25-Dec-19 19:27:56

Tooting29 (Wed 25-Dec-19 18:32:44) Give it a rest ladies its Christmas Day.

Yes Tooting, ours as well as yours.

Doodledog Wed 25-Dec-19 23:48:17

Give it a rest ladies its Christmas Day.

Isn't Christmas Day, for those who celebrate it for religious reasons, about marking the birth of a man who stood for compassion, loving thy neighbour, and generally looking our for one another? Is there a better day to assess the situation we are in, and think of ways to make things better for people in need of help?
