Some Talk on Twitter today
Maybe good idea for a good news thread too.

Larymary?????

When you can't sleep and wake up to discover WW3 may be imminent, tell me why Peacemakers like JC are villified and twats like Johnson and Trump are in power ffs

Abby Martin

Imagine for one second what the US would do if Iran just launched a drone strike to assassinate a top US general. This imperial arrogance and bloodlust for war is horrific and must be stopped before it’s too late. #NoWarWithIran #USoutofIraq

Sixteen years ago,
@JeremyCorbyn
warned the invasion and occupation of Iraq would set off a spiral of conflict and hate that would fuel the wars, terrorism & misery of future generations.

Learn, folks, learn. #Iran

Dan Cohen

If this is true, the US has effectively declared war on Iran, which has established militarily ties with Russia and China. It’s not hyperbole to say this could start WW3. Insane.

The Labour Leftie ?

Strange how this 2013 clip of Johnson, saying he believes the UK should STAY IN the EU, was unavailable for download on all but one site.???

He adds "It's fundamentally not just in the interests of this country but of the whole European Union that Britain should be there".

Bipolarita#Socialism values all

Are Tory voters the new Walking dead? Trogging around with their brains switched off. My tory neighbours complaining rail fare increased again. "we thought Boris would sort this out".

Andy McDonald

Germany’s decision is the correct one. As I announced in the General Election campaign, had Labour won I would have been introducing today a 33% reduction in fares. A major shift from road to rail is key to lowering emissions, improving air quality and combatting congestion.

Labour Left

Whilst British rail travellers are hit by eye watering fare increases once again, Germany makes train tickets cheaper in plan to lower emissions

One of the most important and relevant threads you can read re: the current state of Australia at this moment. #AustraliaBushfires

Bodie Ashton

I want to give some perspective for people not from Australia.
More Aussie land is currently burning than exists in the entire country of Belgium. The smoke is causing breathing problems in New Zealand, 2,000km away. Half a billion animals have been killed. Eight people are dead.

Gloria Evans ?️

Reminded me of this, which shocked me at the time.
Max Keiser told by BBC not to talk about Israel

Sue Aitkenhead - Standing up for truth in Poole?
There is a danger that we will get so used to our Prime minister telling lies, that we start to accept it as normal behaviour for a Prime minister. Are you allowed to lie in your job? Would your boss promote you for telling a good story instead of doing your work?

twitter.com/SCAitkenhead/status/1213023995118915584?s=20

We need to have new sources of news build better news infomation instead of mainly propaganda we are fed.

Oopsminty Fri 03-Jan-20 09:55:31

And you quote Twitter?

Unbelievable

And hilarious

Beckett Fri 03-Jan-20 10:05:44

Oh good - more Twitter quotes confused

lemongrove Fri 03-Jan-20 10:07:27

Phew!
What a lot of subjects there Grany
Your last sentence ( your own thoughts?) is a sensible one.....
Don’t imagine you are getting the truth from bloggers/vloggers etc on social media ....propaganda comes from all sorts of directions.

Urmstongran Fri 03-Jan-20 10:49:38

Nice.
Especially the language.

Grany Fri 03-Jan-20 10:52:57

Yes lots of subjects, all ties together Trump drone strike kills top general, Johnson wants trade deal with Trump.

Climate emergency, happening now parts of the world. Australia.
Train fares increase, instead price cut would have encouraged people to use cars less, a cause of more pollution.

Lies Johnson video saying we should stay in the EU

He changes his mind can't believe a word he says broken lots of promises already, the worst privatisation of our NHS

And BBC MSM don't want talk of Israel lots covered up propaganda instead of truth.

Callistemon Fri 03-Jan-20 11:02:42

We need to have new sources of news build better news infomation instead of mainly propaganda we are fed.
Most definitely, which is why the OP contradicts itself!

I want to give some perspective for people not from Australia.
Yes, well, what does that tell us? It is not at all clear.
Who are these people? Twitterers?
The internet is awash with different opinions on the Australian fires, some from real experts, not the Twitterati.

Callistemon Fri 03-Jan-20 11:05:27

Are you one of the posters who keep telling us not to believe what we read in the msm, warning us about fake news?

We know that already, that is why we are more circumspect in what we would believe from online twits.

Callistemon Fri 03-Jan-20 11:05:35

sorry, tweets

Ilovecheese Fri 03-Jan-20 11:24:20

It is quite possible, even likely that President Trump could make a trade deal dependent on our support for his military actions and ambitions. I just hope that our Government can resist this.

trisher Fri 03-Jan-20 11:29:44

Oh I think we will once again be tied into the US agenda on the Middle East. No matter how much trouble it causes for them and us. Of course the one hope is that US worship destroyed one PM and his reputaton for ever. He did get a nice lucrative job though. I would imagine Boris would consider that a good trade off.

Callistemon Fri 03-Jan-20 11:31:07

He did get a nice lucrative job though.
DH is convinced that was part of his long-term plan.

trisher Fri 03-Jan-20 12:18:03

Callistemon I probably agree. The problem then is what on earth is Boris's long-term plan? I know he's seen as a buffoon but he is clever and devious and... actually it's better not to think about it!

Callistemon Fri 03-Jan-20 16:32:44

to retire to his farm on Exmoor with a bit of luck.

POGS Fri 03-Jan-20 17:34:33

'We need to have new sources of news build better news infomation instead of mainly propaganda we are fed.'
---

Too bloody true!! Some have been saying this for years but not with this level of irony.

It might help if posters stopped using links from facebook/twitter/propagandist political sites to make their point. In other words doing the exact thing they are rallying against, exactly how weird is that?

I honestly wonder why Gransnet accepts some links to what could be nothing more than propaganda from a St Petersburg Misinformation Centre to a fat bloke sat in a chair in his underpants dribbling his dinner down his chin.

Actually I think one day it will be a requirement for forums such as Gransnet to accept some responsibility for the credibility of where information / misinformation on their sites are published.

Ilovecheese Fri 03-Jan-20 18:49:51

But in reality Pogs, any poster on Gransnet could be a fat bloke on a chair in his underpants unless you have actually met them in the flesh.

Links are no more or less likely to be so.

Labaik Fri 03-Jan-20 19:11:15

So how do you suggest we access the news? The BBC hmm? Maybe reading twitter and facebook are the only way to not be totally brainwashed by the news media. Can anyone prove that things in the OP aren't true by the way?

Callistemon Fri 03-Jan-20 20:03:10

Well, Bodie Ashton's pronouncement is irritatingly trite.
We get more extensive and better coverage from television and other reports .

I don't personally give a flying whatever about what she thinks. We know love, we know.
Many of us are worried sick.

Callistemon Fri 03-Jan-20 20:04:31

Sue from Poole???
Is she on GN??

varian Fri 03-Jan-20 20:09:48

The Fake News HQ in St Petersberg has been very effective in ths last few years. They are tbe architscts of brexit after all.

lemongrove Fri 03-Jan-20 21:45:10

Sigh!

GagaJo Fri 03-Jan-20 22:07:37

What bit of the op is lies?

The US HAS just arranged the killing of General Soleimani
Iran DOES have ties with China and Russia
This rise in rail fares will mean fares have gone up 40% in 10 years
Obviously, Aus IS burning
There IS a Boris video saying Brexit was a terrible idea
Boris HAS been caught out in countless lies.

Fair enough, sometimes we post opinions. But the above are all facts.

OR are you holding on to the theory of fake news? If so, you're away with the fairies again.

GagaJo Fri 03-Jan-20 22:09:10

Ilovecheese Fri 03-Jan-20 18:49:51
But in reality Pogs, any poster on Gransnet could be a fat bloke on a chair in his underpants unless you have actually met them in the flesh.

Sounds like my brother. I'll ask him if he's working for the Daily Heil these days.

Callistemon Fri 03-Jan-20 23:39:24

It's just like as learning about world news, getting a view of the world, from Gransnet.

Just as reliable.

Or perhaps not as the case may be.

growstuff Fri 03-Jan-20 23:40:26

Callistemon Dr Bodie Ashton is male.

bodie-ashton.de/about/

I'm not sure he'd appreciate your calling him "love".

As a British-Australian national, he's asking people to send aid to Australia.
