Harry & Megan drop HRH Titles

I think that they have agreed to drop the HRH titles from April, as there would have been too many conditions to making money while holding the title.
They are also, apparently, going to repay the £2.4m of taxpayers money spent on Frogmore.
So, it looks like neither of them will be back to the UK very often at all.
I think that this is the right decision, do you?

Just watched a clip of William and Kate, greeting guests at last nights reception at Buckingham Palace for the UK-Africa Investment Summit.
Both of them were absolutely charming and natural and Kate especially was exemplary.
Princess Anne and the Earl and Countess of Wessex were also there supporting.
I’m confident that the Rf will be fine without H & M, I just hope that they will be fine without the Rf.

It was a series of rude comments and for that I apologise. I was particularly saddened by a comment about the Maxwell woman, who procured young girls. I don't think M and H are the bad guys. We don't know the Royals.

I think the Cambridges have got it right by issuing a few of their own 'snaps' of family life now and again. It's lovely to see the little ones growing up and by taking the initiative they are reducing the value of any intrusive pap ones.

I seem to remember an article about George and Charlotte chatting to a woman while out walking with Carole Middleton. The security man asked the woman not to take photos so she didn't.

Generally, we're a respectful lot. Just a bit of give and take is all that's needed.

You and me both annsixty.

I would have thought that it might have been possible given the sheer nastiness that has just gone before, that it would be possible to make an observation without a spiteful sideways snipe at others trisher

a bit mean with photos

I've thought of this a lot and I do feel that we, as taxpayers pay the Sovereign Grant and should therefore expect members of our Royal Family to perform the duties we require of them. All well and good.

They do this remarkably well, we get coverage of the State opening of Parliament, their visits, walk abouts, supporting the forces, laying of wreaths on Remembrance Sunday, the Prince's Trust, D of E Award, many other charity duties, their weddings and all the other duties involved. Plus occasional photos of their children - but should we expect that as part of the deal?

All well and good, but we never used to expect them to stand on the steps of the hospital, newborn baby in arms, never used to intrude so much.

It is as if they are not now allowed a private life, as if, because we fund the work they carry out on our behalf, we own them and are entitled to snoop into every aspect of their lives.

We do not own them body and soul.
What we demand now from our Royal Family could end up destroying it.

I don't have any contract with the RF thanks and I don't want one. They can all go to Canada or wherever they choose as far as I'm concerned.
As for MM's smile goes sometimes when I am out walking on a sunny day with trees around me and the sky above I do smile to myself because of the beautiful world I see. With a baby asleep and a husband on his way home to her perhaps MM just felt the same. I understand that perhaps some of the grumpy Grans on here don't, and perhaps can't, do that.

Lucywinter

I’m saddened by what has happened to our Royal family too. Very saddened. I have always liked Harry and was happy he found a beautiful and confident wife, and then they went on to have a beautiful baby boy. I think we feel that they are ‘our’ royal family, not the same as any other, and definitely nothing like celebrities, especially Tinsel town celebrities. And our royal family always stand up for and support Britain, hence they accept a lifetime of service, albeit a very privileged lifetime. Somehow H+M have broken this unwritten contract between the British people and the royal family. I hope they’ll be happy, I hope we still hear from time to time how they’re getting on, I hope they don’t ‘cheapen’ the brand.

Annie, I hope you’re okay flowers

NotSpaghetti Tue 21-Jan-20 19:09:51

Mmmn, maybe, Lucywinter. The youtube one of her doesn’t show anyone chatting to her. The two security people look rather bored.

And do sort-of agree about the paparazzi. I also think M&H have been a bit mean with photos in the UK to be honest. I thought maybe this set of nice pics was a “two fingered” release to the UK!

annsixty Tue 21-Jan-20 19:06:20

For what it is worth as I am never one to hide, I reported Sparkii’s post.
I thought it was unforgivable and Annie deserves a heartfelt apology.

ReadyMeals Tue 21-Jan-20 19:04:35

It's very ironic isn't it - they didn't have paps here, now they do in the very place they went to get away from the press. But surely they need publicity more than ever if they're going to trade on their fame to earn money? I am interested to see how this latest development will work out. I thought those shots were an arranged photocall

lemongrove Tue 21-Jan-20 19:01:09

If you ‘get the picture’ sparkii you would offer a real heartfelt apology to Anniebach instead of shrugs/ faux concern. Your comments to her are actually despicable.

lucywinter Tue 21-Jan-20 18:58:59

Oops! Sorry to get back to the big picture.

lucywinter Tue 21-Jan-20 18:58:10

I don't think she was smiling at the camera. I think she was chatting and laughing with the security blokes and was just looking in front of her.

I know it's mean, but a little bit me thinks it serves them right that the paparazzi have followed them to Canada. But I am just angry at what's done to our royal family.

SueDonim Tue 21-Jan-20 18:57:33

Since when did being ‘straight & honest’ mean being unkind? And who are you, Sparkii, or any of us, to be telling another GN member what to do?

sparkii Tue 21-Jan-20 18:56:20

OK, I get the picture.

NotSpaghetti Tue 21-Jan-20 18:56:09

Well I saw the photos and just thought how happy she looked. I thought they were taken by someone she knew, as she was giving genuine smiles and seemed to be looking at the camera in a friendly way that seemed so natural.

I’m really sorry that even when such ordinary photos emerge (so close to what seems to be a public road and on what might be a public trail) they are still unhappy.
On one of the photos you can clearly see a gate with a “No parking” sign. I wouldn’t think private land would have those. Might be wrong. Either way, I thought they were the nicest photos I’ve seen of her with the baby.

BTW - it didn’t bother me that Archie was wonky - who hasn’t been there at least once!!!

sparkii Tue 21-Jan-20 18:55:29

As you wish. I actually feel sad and worried for her.

Buffybee Tue 21-Jan-20 18:55:18

I suggest you stop digging sparkii!
You're a disgrace!

lavenderzen Tue 21-Jan-20 18:55:05

What an absolute disgrace this is. I am shocked that things can sink so low. Sparkii you should be ashamed of yourself.

Annie flowers xx

GrannyLaine Tue 21-Jan-20 18:54:43

sparkii I don't think anyone is taken in by your ridiculous faux concern. Maybe take a good look at what you have posted.

Oopsminty Tue 21-Jan-20 18:53:46

I think it would be great if you were to stop being such a piece of work, sparkii

Annie is entitled to post without having the stress of a keyboard mean girl goading her

annep1 Tue 21-Jan-20 18:53:25

I rarely agree with Annibach but this comment was out of order and Anniebach should get an apology.

MawB Tue 21-Jan-20 18:53:17

Good try Sparkii but the damage is done - too little, too late.

sparkii Tue 21-Jan-20 18:52:40

It wasn't patronising, it was straight and honest.
