I find it a tad annoying when the MSM is targeted, especially by those who are happy to source their information from and repeat the information from sources they have not a ruddy clue who, what, where the information comes from. There is a lot of hypocrisy about when it comes to the MSM.
For example we see links posted on Gransnet regularly to the likes of Facebook /twitter/political activist sites and goodness where and if and when the poster is challenged he/she has not a clue where the source is based or who is behind it.
It could be a fat bloke in a chair dripping curry down his vest, we know all about the St Petersburg Bot Factories and if we don't understand we are pawns in somebody else's game if and when we repeat their crap then we are either very naive or couldn't care less as long as the means ' suits our end'. Why bother with facts seems at times to be an ethos.
At least with the MSM you know who, what, where the source is coming from and more to the point that source can and will be challenged if they dare to produce Fake News or Misinformation and have to report it in their paper if found to have done so, or taken to Court.
Of course the MSM is biased, in ' both directions'. If you think the MSM is biased what the hell does that make the likes of The Morning Star, The Socialist Worker et al? Do you think they are non partisan? Should we be told what we read, what we watch, what we listen to?
Actually Grany as this is your thread I remember you posted once The Morning Star is a paper we Gransetters should read, you couldn't make it up as the saying goes.
It is not the influence in the MSM that should be of concern but it sure as hell should concern everybody as to the danger of using the internet and the sites that manage to get the weak to do their dirty work by click bait, ' pass this on', algorithms that target us as the consumer.
There is a reason why the Internet is free, it's because we are the consumer and the subliminal messaging, political activism, Fake News and Misinformation is a by far a bigger danger than the MSM.
Don't get me started about the anonymity afforded to the Internet that creates pure bile, hatred and division. At least if you read, hear or see anything in the MSM you have a known source to be able to hold it to accountability, have checks and balances . We may not as individuals agree with what the MSM produces but ye gods at least know who, what, where the source is based.
