A thorough investigation of 8 newspapers journalism regarding Jeremy Corbyn representation in the British Press by LSE.

I know Labour lost out Tories won. We will soon have a new Labour Leader

But should press have so much power to influence shouldn't they be curbed investigated?

And no mention of the countrywide strikes demonstrations in France or very little coverage. If it wasn't for videos on social media you wouldn't know what's happening in France.

Why isn't all this reported here?

The MSM have an invidious influence on our politics. Analysis of voting patterns in the fraudulent referendum of 2016 showed that newspaper readership was the most important factor influencing the vote. Readers on the whole voted the war they were told by the foreign billionaires and tax exiles who own the majority of our papers and have their own agenda. We live in a sham democracy.

Gaunt47 Tue 28-Jan-20 21:43:04

We don't live in a democracy. As long as we retain the first past the post system we live in an elected dictatorship.
Sorry that's off thread isn't it.

Yes agree varian and Gaunt47 that with the huge sway that the billionaire newspapers owners have and the MSM in this country in general have to be challenged.

I have heard somewhere on social media there are plans to create a independent news to provide people with an alternative view based on facts not propaganda.

There needs to be something like this for democracy.

Well there was nothing much in our media about big regional elections in Italy in which the Centre left defeated the right wing populists. Brexit supporters were wetting themselves with glee a couple of years ago predicting that Italy was about to follow the U.K. and leave the EU. Even the right wing sceptics in Italy were sensible enough to want reform of the EU rather than an attempt to destroy it. I guess anything that doesn’t fit the story doesn’t get a mention. The U.K. is becoming more insular than it was before.

Yes agree vegansrock Other countries find out what's happening around the world and in their own country from their media We just get fed realality stars the Royals and propaganda.

P Charles gets lots of money from the Duchy £20 million its run like a corporation yet pays no corporation tax.

How he is able to fund Harry and Meghan

Harry and Meghan’s Big Funding Source Is Private. Sort of.

Republic is getting its message out there

I've been telling journalists that the monarchy is now in real trouble. Harry and Meghan will continue to be a thorn in their side for years to come, inviting unhelpful comparisons with the stuffy institution they've left behind.

With the Queen turning 94 in April the royals face an increasingly difficult decade ahead. Attention will soon turn to Prince Charles as future king, while the supporting cast will have effectively been reduced to William and Kate.

The Man Who Shouldn't Be King showing at Bristol

On Monday we held a press launch of Republic's ground breaking documentary, The Man Who Should Be King (watch the trailer).

The film will be shown at events right around the country, starting with Bristol this Friday (see details on the website).

On Monday this week I'll be visiting the Isle of Man to deliver a talk on why we need a republic. Although not part of the UK the Isle of Man is a Crown dependency and will also feel the impact of ending the monarchy.
And again proof of propaganda in MSM and from the press

Revealed: How the Media Rigged the General Election
Jan 27, 2020, 7:25:00 PM

A study from Loughborough University has shone a light on how the media joined together to rig the election in favour of Boris Johnson and his Conservative Party, and against Jeremy Corbyn.

As RLB said they maybe could expect a hung parliament but not the absolute defeat
There was definitely postal fraud

I find it a tad annoying when the MSM is targeted, especially by those who are happy to source their information from and repeat the information from sources they have not a ruddy clue who, what, where the information comes from. There is a lot of hypocrisy about when it comes to the MSM.

For example we see links posted on Gransnet regularly to the likes of Facebook /twitter/political activist sites and goodness where and if and when the poster is challenged he/she has not a clue where the source is based or who is behind it.

It could be a fat bloke in a chair dripping curry down his vest, we know all about the St Petersburg Bot Factories and if we don't understand we are pawns in somebody else's game if and when we repeat their crap then we are either very naive or couldn't care less as long as the means ' suits our end'. Why bother with facts seems at times to be an ethos.

At least with the MSM you know who, what, where the source is coming from and more to the point that source can and will be challenged if they dare to produce Fake News or Misinformation and have to report it in their paper if found to have done so, or taken to Court.

Of course the MSM is biased, in ' both directions'. If you think the MSM is biased what the hell does that make the likes of The Morning Star, The Socialist Worker et al? Do you think they are non partisan? Should we be told what we read, what we watch, what we listen to?

Actually Grany as this is your thread I remember you posted once The Morning Star is a paper we Gransetters should read, you couldn't make it up as the saying goes.

It is not the influence in the MSM that should be of concern but it sure as hell should concern everybody as to the danger of using the internet and the sites that manage to get the weak to do their dirty work by click bait, ' pass this on', algorithms that target us as the consumer.

There is a reason why the Internet is free, it's because we are the consumer and the subliminal messaging, political activism, Fake News and Misinformation is a by far a bigger danger than the MSM.

Don't get me started about the anonymity afforded to the Internet that creates pure bile, hatred and division. At least if you read, hear or see anything in the MSM you have a known source to be able to hold it to accountability, have checks and balances . We may not as individuals agree with what the MSM produces but ye gods at least know who, what, where the source is based.

I so agree with you POGS. I will cheerfully admit I buy the Daily Mail - and the i and the Observer, and DT, all at different times. Today the DM headlined leaving the EU and roughly the first 10 pages was all about that. I didn't even look at those pages, just cut to the other pages in the paper.

I find the patronising moral outrage on this thread rather amusing. I must assume that most of the people decrying the popular press do not read it on a regular basis and always assume that they are far too intelligent and wise to be affected by any media they read, by the way what are the politically correct media to be reading? The Guardian? The Mirror?

You will note the Gardian is not on my list of papers I read. I have tried, oh how I have tried to like the Gurdian, its politics are such as I generally agree with but is is so self righteous and its humour is oh so woke.

All of us, you, tthe person reading this post, the hairdresser who cuts your hair, the supermarket shelf filler who reads the Daily Express are quite capable of reading all kinds of media and all of us will have our views shaped by what we read and where we read it and all of us will filter it through our own experience and political views and all of us will have a very personal view on political matters.

Just because the majority of people do not share your political views or read the papers you read does not mean that they are any less intelligent or more gullible than you. They just do not agree with you. And they may be the wisest of us all.
