How long will it take for some people to realise we ALL lost?
Please help! (grandchild being locked in bedroom)
Trying to get through prolonged/complicated grief
Hubby and I have just got back from Parliament Square celebrations (stayed longer than planned as the atmosphere was electric!) - We all made so many new friends (both leavers and remainers) - Hellllllo to the "Backing Singers"!
And Tenby Angels Helllooo - Hopefully we will see some new members joining GN. (I've warned them about the welcoming committee, don't worry).
There is definitely a wonderfully, optimistic buzz in the UK!
I love this British wave of positivity.
Reminds me of the Berlin Wall coming down.
How long will it take for some people to realise we ALL lost?
But if celebrations include tell anyone who doesn’t agree to “f***ng do one” , nazi salutes and charmingly one poster “ if you love the EU so much then fuck off back to Africer “( sic) then 8 think we have aright to be “ annoyed” , or rather horrified and disgusted.
Maybe you should stop focusing on that tiny minority - the vast vast majority of leave voters are just ordinary people, but it suits your agenda to focus on the idiots.
Plenty of idiots on the remain side as you well know.
And if you love the EU so much, you’ll know only too well that many EU countries have a very strong Nazi movements. Funny how that always gets overlooked.
Well said Kandinsky ?
I didn’t know this was a clinical setting, don’t be silly!
It’s not Joelsnan it’s GN - don’t be silly! Those of us who work in the NHS are aware of appropriate terminology and use it automatically in all settings, including online forums.
We all know the alt right is a danger all over the world. Maybe you and the Brexit supporters should disassociate yourselves from the ones who make the headlines then. Funny no-one seems to. They are not just "idiots" they are dangerous idiots.
One of the main songs on the Farage platform contained many obscenities which I wont repeat- wasn't just a minority thing.
None of the triumphalists on here are condemning the thugs - they are just a minority "celebrating".
I'm not quite sure what this thread is about, Brexit celebrations, epilepsy or homelessness.
Yes, it does seem as though 'rent-a-mob' was out in full force on Friday night, but these types often take over big gatherings because they make the most noise.
It seems they were far right activists who wanted to make an impact.
Bad language and dire dress code essential!
I seem to remember last year extremely annoying pro-EU demonstrators in Parliament Square causing mayhem for several weeks.
There are undesirables on both sides.
" When candlemass be clear and bright , winter takes a second flight"
Today, as well as being the second day of independance is also Candlemass. Its a bit dull and damp here and not at all clear. So the winter will not take a second flight and we are over the worst I think. Now let us also be over the worst of the rejoiners too. Look forward to the better times to come.
Candlemass has always been one of those weather verses I have always known to work by the way.
If those celebrating Brexit don't realise the threat from the far right, and how they have legitimised views which are totally abhorrent to most people, they are either closing their eyes, or in some way complicit with those views. The far right is on the rise.
I don't see this as positive. And I was always taught that intelligent, well mannered people did not celebrate and crow when they won a victory, but were gracious and modest. I suppose all these posts just illustrate that those who voted to leave have none of those qualities.

I’m a bit late coming to this thread, but in all fairness, the picture you posted showed a chap who wasn’t shirtless, and he wasn’t bald. He looks to have some tattoos, and has a beer glass in his hand, but you can’t tell if he is saying anything, and I don’t think he was at Parliament Square.

Oh so you are not allowed to punch the air when you win the race? Tell that to the athletes then. You are not allowed to run and jump together with your team mates when you score the winning goal? Tell that to the footballers and the rugby players then.
You dont stand on the top space in the podium and pop the champaigne cork when you win the grand prix? tell that to the racing drivers.
You dont kiss the cup and raise it in the air at Wimbledon when you win the finals . Tell that to tennis players.
Winners are always allowed their celebration.
I’ve very much enjoyed the clips online which show people being interviewed whilst celebrating, who have absolutely NO IDEA about what they are actually celebrating.
When asked - what are you celebrating, they reply - we’ve taken back control. They are then asked - you’ve taken back control of what, they reply - of our country. They are then asked - what does that actually mean and there is a lot of umming and ahhing - and they have no bloody idea!!
It would be very funny, only....it isn’t. ?♀️
The rise of any extremism, right or left, is a worry. All of us would be happier in a world where we occupy a centre ground but human nature dictates differently. I would say that the constant arguing on Social media, including here, is just feeding it.
april Perhaps we could continue with the church calendar and have ‘the first Sunday after Independence Day’ etc ?
Candlemass today, and hope the weather prediction is spot on.
Kandinsky well said, and had a laugh reading it.??

But you do of course?
You can celebrate a win but should you treat those who have lost with obscenities and threats?
Does tennis player when winning Wimbledon tell his/her opponnent to "f***ng do one"?
You can celebrate a win but should you treat those who have lost with obscenities and threats?
What about all the obsenities, threats, assaults and insults that remain activists have been slinging at leavers f or three years or more now? They dont count I suppose?
We could make exchanges like this forever.
I often think that if those ardent remainers had just put a sock in their megaphones ( that does not mean you are not allowed to voice your opinion, it means you accept the decision of democracy and move democratically to make any changes, not hijack it and insult others), then maybe this would not have continued in the vein it has.
As for those who oft demand that those like myself explain beyond " the sound bite" what I mean. Look to yourselves. Have you ever explained beyond the soundbite of why you feel so European? What is that exactly? Where is that country? Where is that unified culture? Which bit of Europe are we talking about there? Or even the idea that we have all benefitted from being in the EU. That the EU is the sunny uplands- have you ever explained that beyond the sound bite?
I know why I voted to leave the EU. The research shows most of us did. We also know what we mean by taking back control ..... but the thing is, most of us just want a quiet life and are sick of the click baiting by remain activists who just want to make an argument for the sake of one.
If I offered remainers an olive branch here, they would try and use it to beat me over the head and across my back. Thats why I for one will not engage beyond the "soundbite" now.
The man in the photo looks as if he is in a pub celebrating quietly, probably the day after the referendum.
I wonder if he knows his photo is being used as typical of a tattooed, bald, shirtless, foul mouthed lout giving Nazi salutes?
I may not agree with him but linking his photo to those thugs you allege were in Parliament Square is treading on dangerous ground.
Perhaps you should be careful what you post, vegansrock.
Since when did two wrongs make a right? The fact that you don't distance yourself from the sheer xenophobic, obscene and intimidating behaviour shown by some speaks volumes.
Perhaps if you clicked on the link to the Independent article I posted earlier Calistemon you would see more pictures and read about the behaviour at Parliament Square. If you want to see pictures of the nazi saluting shirtless ones theres plenty of them. You seem to be trying to accuse people of racism or some sort of illegality in order further your own agenda but it doesn't detract from the facts.
Yes Callistemon that was what I commented on a few posts ago. I saw that chap on the news, he was in a pub either in Boston or a village nearby. It was used as an example of a big majority ‘leave’ area certainly, but no he didn’t fit the profile that was suggested.
I don't know how the OP can say there is a spirit of optimism in the country. There is a great deal of anger and bitterness in this divided country.
