In this morning’s DT
THE Duke of Sussex has been duped into speaking about his decision to quit the Royal Family by hoaxers pretending to be Greta Thunberg, it was claimed last night.
The Duke was pranked by Russian jokers who convinced him he was speaking to the teenage climate activist and her father, according to The Sun. He alluded to tensions between his wife and himself, and the rest of the Royal family and also criticised Donald Trump, who he said “has blood on his hands.
The two phone calls were reportedly made to the Duke at his rented home on Vancouver Island, Canada, on New Year’s Eve and January 22, by Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, known as Vovan and Lexus
Do you all remember how “Sheik gate” put an end to Sophie Wessex’s career plans? I fear that without the protection of a Royal Press Officer Harry risks being a bit of “an innocent abroad “

I am not surprised to read in the article from The Guardian, that well known bastion of support for the monarchy, that the writer has little time or respect for anyone in the RF. The writer, a certain Catherine Bennett, made her support of Meghan no secret, whilst writing with barely concealed dislike of the rest of the RF and of Catherine in particular. Why should I be surprised that writers in The Guardian are not not monarchists? I’m not, and that’s why anything she writes, being merely her opinion, is of no interest to me at all.

Two good articles, Greymar and Grany.

I'm not surprised Charles' duchy subjects hate him, draining them financially, claiming his inherited right, like King John in Robin Hood. I find him snivelling and far too self-impressed.

And as for William and Kate, I agree. Smile and nod. It's what they're paid for. Keep your private disagreements to yourself.

Greymar Sun 15-Mar-20 18:36:37

I thought that article was a stunning piece of writing.

It was. The monarchists won't like it. But there is plenty of pro-monarchy propaganda around to appease them.

I liked the link to Elizabeth, pre-queen, being taught the nazi salute and also the references to Marie Antoinette, aka Kate playing at being a 'normal' mum.

Have H&M actually returned to Canada? I know it won’t be affected by Donald’s ban on the UK, but have never seen that they have gone ‘home’ to Archie.

Greymar Mon 16-Mar-20 08:09:55

I'm neither a monarchist nor a republican. I found the writers use of language brilliant.

I believe Meghan hopped on a plane and returned to Canada straight after the Commonwealth service. Harry was staying on until this week because he had Megxit meetings to attend.

Does Canada have any travel restrictions in place?

Well, now is the time for Prince Harry to prove himself.

He has distanced himself from royal duties, if not royal finance, and the world is his oyster. He is in an enterprising country which I imagine offers a good outdoor life, which again I imagine is where his talents lie. A polo pony stud, outward bound experiences, military training, explorer type activities, training/opportunities for the disabled, working for an established charity? Many, many opportunities.

He has youth, health, wealth and contacts; now he has the opportunities to utilise them and prove what sort of person he really is.

Anniebach Mon 16-Mar-20 10:00:40

He can’t do those without Megan, can’t imagine her being active in any except for working for a charity ,but no big money in that surely

Greymar Mon 16-Mar-20 13:29:02

Put the knife away for a day or two maybe?

I think the suggestions you have made sound very much like the kind of thing that might suit Harry. However I think those suggestions are not what Meghan has in mind at all. Meghan seems to want very big money and fame. Your ideas wouldn’t fit the bill at all.
My opinion only, others may think differently.

“A polo pony stud, outward bound experiences, military training, explorer type activities, training/opportunities for the disabled, working for an established charity? Many, many opportunities”

Whatever future they decide they are not going to fund a jet set lifestyle with any of the above. They probably will get by if Megan goes back to work and he looks after Archie. As for the Duchy they will probably “chip in “ and help with security.

Anniebach Mon 16-Mar-20 16:03:40

Harry is country, Megan is town. It was the same for Charles and Diana.

Calendargirl Mon 16-Mar-20 16:07:11

Perhaps Harry can run an upmarket creche while Meghan does film work. Just think how many posh mummies would enlist their children, and H would be able to spend loads of time with Archie.

trisher Mon 16-Mar-20 16:18:05

Amazing how people who hadn't even heard of her until she married Harry apparently now know her likes and dislikes. As for her not being active except for charity she's an actor isn't she? She earned the money she has.

Anniebach Mon 16-Mar-20 16:19:38

She can spend the money she earned on security

trisher Mon 16-Mar-20 16:28:45

Perhaps she wouldn't have to if she had married someone else or if the RF had the sense to start cutting down their numbers and spent their own money. They could all afford to.

Grany Mon 16-Mar-20 16:32:12

Too True Well Said trisher

The RF want their care and eat it

Grany Mon 16-Mar-20 16:32:27

Cake

Anniebach Mon 16-Mar-20 16:35:20

How do they cut down their family trisher the guillotine ?

eazybee Mon 16-Mar-20 17:32:36

Every one blames MM for the debacle; I think H has problems of his own, partly because he doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. If he trails around in La-La Land he will be even more unsettled.

Trying to make positive suggestions, but it may possibly be that he doesn't read Gransnet.

trisher Mon 16-Mar-20 17:36:00

Limit to monarch, 1st child and his/her 1st child +partners. The rest should just get jobs and spend their own money.

Anniebach Mon 16-Mar-20 17:56:10

So we keep The Queen, Phillip, Charles, Camilla, William and
Kate.

Get shot of Anne, Edward and Sophie

Jabberwok Mon 16-Mar-20 18:14:28

With all the good things they support and influence they'd be a loss!

Anniebach Mon 16-Mar-20 18:18:08

Yes they would, when Diana dropped her charities they certaintly lost support.
