It’s said as a precaution, not an emergency. I hope he recovers. Who will lead?

tickingbird Mon 06-Apr-20 21:41:09

I haven’t posted for a couple of weeks as wanted a rest from GN but would just like to say that I’ve just switched sky news on and hear that Boris has been moved into Intensive Care. I wish him a very speedy recovery and hope he pulls through this.

Saetana Mon 06-Apr-20 21:41:11

Get well soon Boris - glad he nominated Dominic Raab as his deputy before this happened, he would have been my second choice for Conservative leader after Boris. Just goes to show this poxy disease can strike down anyone. As for those of you who have no sympathy for him - you are beyond contempt and that is all I have to say on the matter!

paddyanne

I will give you your due, you at least did not attempt to show empathy or hypocrisy, nor worry even give a flying gig about the common decency of understanding the concept of ' time and place'.

farview Mon 06-Apr-20 21:49:00

..I shan't ever understand nastiness in times like these..whatever your political views..dont be bitter..

POGS Mon 06-Apr-20 21:52:41

Greymar Mon 06-Apr-20 21:06:39

'POGS, agree. Of course nobody wishes him or his family anything other than good health. But what now for the country?'
---

Sadly your first point has not proven to be correct as we have witnessed on the 2 threads re his potential life threatening virus.

Your second point was dealt with by both Dominic Raab and Sky interviewed Ian Duncan Smith who spoke pragmatically and sensibly how the government carries on during his illness.

We should thank goodness we are a democratic country not a Dictatorship.

Your post of 21.08 certainly shows you for what you are,*Paddyanne

There have been several character revealing posts from that poster lately.

A little unconscious humour in a Radio 4 news roundup:
"Her Majesty the Queen says better times are coming.....Boris Johnson has been admited to hospital with persistent symptoms."
Oh dear smile

I can't believe my eyes that this comment has been posted and smiled about and remained unchallenged. What kind of person has a sense of humour that finds someone, anyone, being admitted to hospital with "persistent sysmptoms" as better times are coming? Speechless.

farview Mon 06-Apr-20 22:01:37

Chewbaccatotally agree..nastiness at its best...

Callistemon Mon 06-Apr-20 22:04:48

paddyanne
Such a constant stream of venom cannot be good for your own health.

Callistemon Mon 06-Apr-20 22:06:45

Your heroine sends him every good wish paddyanne
It's a pity you cannot do the same
At least she has some decency.

Anniel Mon 06-Apr-20 22:06:46

Do you all note that among people on the left are some who cannot wish someone well without bringing their politics into it? As far as I am concerned Vegans don’t rock and some of you should be ashamed about your political digs at someone who is extremely ill. Why don’t you keep your venom for your Socialist Worker party meetings?

Anniebach Mon 06-Apr-20 22:07:38

I don’t understand how anyone can make a joke about anyone
having this awful virus.

As for paddyanne cruel

Iam64 Mon 06-Apr-20 22:13:58

Grandad is right, this isn’t the place for political or even personal digs at Boris Johnson. His move into ICU is devastating for him and his loved one’s and the last thing our country needs.
Im sure I’m not the only person praying or sending positive thoughts for him to respond to treatment and recover.

Chewbacca Mon 06-Apr-20 22:15:19

Not all Anniel; but certainly a lot of the horrible, spiteful posts have come from that quarter. One of those is renowned for such posts and can largely be ignored as being an attention seeker. The others possibly don't realise how much they've revealed about their true character and have convinced themselves that they're oh so funny. They're really not.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Apr-20 22:17:54

The Queen is being kept informed. This only happens in very serious cases.

Johnson’s age is with him and there is no suggestion that he has any underlying issues, so he has much going for him. He is in the best of hands. I think there is a lot to be optimistic about.

Iam64 Mon 06-Apr-20 22:22:21

I do hope you’re right Whitewave2.
I’ve been worried about Boris Johnson’s Health since last Thursday’s film of him clapping the nhs and other workers.

farview Mon 06-Apr-20 22:24:07

Stay with us Boris..you're cared about and needed..by us and by your family....have so much respect for you ..trying to do your job whilst obviously really poorly..⚘

NanaandGrampy Mon 06-Apr-20 22:24:53

He’s someone’s father, friend, son or partner being a politician is just his career .

What if he was your son or partner ? Would you not be devastated by this news in light of the level of deaths occurring ?

Humanity demands - yes demands- that we wish him well and send our sympathies at this time - anything less speaks only badly of the detractors .

Luckygirl Mon 06-Apr-20 22:26:06

Poor chap - let us hope he pulls through this. His fiancee must be so worried.

Dominic Raab seems a sensible guy - he was impressive at the briefing - and Chris Witty fielded lots of ridiculous questions with impressive good manners.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 06-Apr-20 22:27:46

My immediate thoughts and prayers are with Carrie Symonds and his family.

maddyone Mon 06-Apr-20 23:25:18

This is very bad news, for us as a country, but more so for Boris, his partner and their unborn child, and for his family. The Johnson family have always shown themselves to be an extremely close family, his father and elderly mother must be devastated.
I want Boris to get well. I pray for him to recover.

Eloethan Tue 07-Apr-20 00:25:22

It's a terrible thing for anyone to have this awful virus and, though I'm no fan of Boris Johnson, I do feel sorry for him - as I would anyone suffering such a frightening illness - and hope he makes a full recovery.

Having said that, many people are currently seriously ill with this virus - some of them as a result of being dangerously exposed to it "in the line of duty". In addition to health and care workers, who are at the extreme end of risk, ten public transport workers have died. There continues to be pleas for personal protection equipment, for nurses and doctors in particular, but also for other at risk employees.

I don't think the supposed joke up thread is funny. However, wasn't it Boris Johnson who referred to the search for new sources of ventilators as "Operation Last Gasp" at a time when many people were seriously ill and urgently requiring ventilation? There were many Gransnetters who defended that "joke". Perhaps it was deemed less offensive because it was not directed personally but nevertheless families with seriously ill members were unlikely to have seen the humour.

Eloethan … I'm not sure why you decided to post those comments here?

Couldn't you have put a sock in it for a day or two?

Have a thought for those who are genuinely worried.

That goes for a few other posters too.

Baloothefitz Tue 07-Apr-20 01:13:40

Boris Johnson has been intubated & is on a ventilator in ICU St Thomas' .Wish the Prime Minister well even though I don't agree with his politics.

Oopsminty Tue 07-Apr-20 01:24:40

Hi there Baloothefitz

Where did you read that he's on a ventilator?

Can't find it anywhere
