Hang on if there is something wrong in the supply chain in some areas how can saying everything is OK not be lying? If he isn't lying does he simply not know what is happening? Is he that incompetent?

In the UK the military are past masters in both long-term storage and logistics. They keep a number of central stores (stockpiles) across the country that are equipped for all eventualities. New stock replenishes the goods that are issued and so items do not go 'out of date'. In an emergency they have the means to respond quickly and with the right equipment in the right place to be accessed as needed.

If a similar model was adopted by the NHS there would be no equipment perishing in stockpiles. Also, if the problem (in part) is that stock are not getting to where it's needed in a timely way, then I'd suggesting let the military take over the logistics rather than just have them haring about the country delivering hither and thither.

Until today (new guidance just been issued) the government advice regarding the need for PPE during patient contact was defined as being within 1 metre of a patient, it has now been revised in line with current good practice to 2 metres.

You can see straight away that the government guidance fell below what nursing staff perceived to be the threat level and why medics would want to wear PPE if they were within 2 metres of patients they're caring for - after all that fits in with government guidance for the general population.

Would those who feel that the government has done all it can and can't be blamed for ignoring the results of Operation Cygnus offer some evidence to support their argument? As far as I can see from the evidence offered it is clear that the government failed in it's duty to protect the population because it failed to act on the information it had amassed.

The NHS staff. I have worked in NHS procurement. It is not complex and it is not new. Picking packs for hospitals by size and location is actually very simple. Hospital logistics is very well run and there are hundreds of couriers available at the moment. It is either not there or it has been centralized and it is sheer incompetence. I saw someone said the NHS managers would not lie. Believe you me they will lie about anything to maintain their positions.

Politicians may be doing their best but unfortunately their best is proving to be insufficient by a huge margin. Doing your best is an excuse for children not for senior politicians in a crisis.

OK Shelmiss I made a mistake. One poster claimed everybody not on the front line lies. I certainly don't think every politician lies - and I suspect many other posters feel the same as I do. However, some politicians and their advisors certainly do lie and/or avoid telling the truth. They need to be held to account because it undermines trust, which is sorely needed at the moment.

Hancock has made promises in the past (40 new hospitals, 50,000 new nurses) and now 100,000 tests and goodness know how many ventilators. One missed target/broken promise is unfortunate, but a history of them is something else.

He and the chief nurse person lied to the public about why they couldn't answer the question about how many NHS staff have died. Even when he was forced to give a figure, he lied about the actual number, which is actually at least double the number he gave - and rising.

The Guardian has shown that the stockpile of emergency equipment in case of a pandemic has been reduced by nearly 40% over the last six years.

You clearly have your incredibly strong and biased opinions and are unwilling to change an iota. I’ve known many people who are totally secure in their own opinions and refuse to consider other views or standpoints. Maybe you are as popular as they were?
Some people are happy to try to see other views and actually consider them. Others know they can never be wrong.
