Several Labour MPs have broken lockdown and they have not been sacked...Stephen Kinnock 400 mile round trip to visit parents.
Ali has attended funeral mass gatherings
Gething rewrote Welsh lockdown rules after he was caught.
Corbyn not observing over 70’s lockdown.
Would, not wold!
I really don't get this GG13 are you suggesting that the leader of a party not in power should sack elected representatives while the leader of the party in power refuses to sack an employee? Have you never heard of democracy? MPs are answerable to their constituents. Cummings is answerable to Johnson. That's the difference FFS.
Elliegran would my children have been safer in the uk or in germany?
Elliegran, can we have an example of:
'The government is doing a very difficult job and doing it well.'
anything will do?
I have just posted on another thread that if all the the other sightings of DC are proven he should fall on his sword.
I have mixed thoughts regarding going to stay in a lodge on his parents property, because I would do anything for any of my children or grandchildren if I thought it was the correct thing for the child (We have several children on the spectrum in our family and they would not be comfortable/or manage to stay with all family or friends)
Hello Elliegran - aka Morag - et al - doing what any reasonable parent would do? Defending the indefensible ?
Well, Hetty, they flattened the curve that was much larger than it should have been because they delayed lockdown by a good three weeks...
Some people's bar for 'success' appears to be a rather low one...
Elliegran Quote [ The government has flattened the curve and deaths are reducing. I would call that success.] End Quote.
Elliegran, it has not been this government who have reduced the infection rate and through that the number of deaths. It is the conventional people of this nation making changes and sacrifices in their daily lives that has brought about the forgoing.
Those people followed the regulations that this government laid down, but of course, we all now know that some attached to this government do not believe those regulations apply to them.
In the above the action by Cummings now threatens the whole credibility of the lockdown, social distancing and all else that has reduced the infection rate.
Face it Elliegran what has been carried out by Cummings in the eyes of the vast majority within this nation is indefensible.
Corbyn not observing over 70s lockdown .I missed that.
But in any case so what? everyone agrees people should not break the rules but someone instrumental in setting up those rules ?
He was in the House of Commons Chamber for a PMQ, maybe 2 or 3 PMQs. Can't remember the details. It may have been before Starmer was elected when he was still LOTO. I think that would count as a necessary journey, to go to Wesminster for PMQs when you're LOTO. Wouldn't you?
Anyway, it's now established we can all break the rules if we think it's necessary.
Crikey, is this the best that the Boris fan club can come up with? A load of whataboutery and smears about how Starmer wears his jacket. I don't know why anyone is surprised by what has happened over the past few days, this is what you get when you elect a liar and cheat into office. He is sneering at us all, and many people are bound to feel hurt that they have been fooled by this serial liar.
Was Cummings a guinea pig for the tracking system?
Also heard that either he or his wife have family in London who could have provided emergency care for their child if needed (also has staff) - this actually was not needed as they were not seriously ill. Also how many times did he visit Durham etc.?
Of course I am aware that the curve is flattening. However, I happen to think that it could have happened sooner. Curve flattening began in other countries before ours. I suppose you could call it a success. On the scale of 0 - 10? Bottom half I think.
Track and trace had started soon after the first cases. The govt then cancelled it for reasons not necessarily apparent but possibly because of Cummings' suggestions about herd immunity. They are now starting it again.
Johnson could/would not answer Starmer's questions about it during PMQs last week. Instead he insisted that it would be up and running by 1 June and it was going to be world beating. This despite the app in tested in the Isle of Wight not working too well. This was the app developed by the company owned by Cummings relatives.
I can only conclude that some people have short memories when it comes to the actions of this government.
Personally I think all this ‘outrage’ has got completely out of hand, esp. when so many people - inc. my next door neighbours - are flouting the rules on a regular basis.
Yes, I know such people as DC should obey the rules they themselves have set, but FGS, if we still had public hangings there’d be a screaming crowd out there cheering the hangman - it’s really not pleasant to see all this baying for blood. Anyone would think that the entire population but DC had been scrupulously observing the rules.
And so what if DC does happen to have a relative close by? It doesn’t follow at all that that relative - or anybody else - would be both willing and able to take on full time care of a child who’s been living with parents now too ill with the virus to do it.
So many people are talking as if childcare in such circs.would be a piece of cake to organise.
Witzend, yes, people are flouting the rules. There is only 80% compliance.
It's an entirely different matter when those who should lead by example just don't bother to.
Do those people that have a problem with the way Keir Starmer dresses not feel horrified that the man that is effectively running the country dresses like a vagrant most of the time. And his puppet PM doesn’t look a great deal better: the words hedge backwards springs to mind.
Someone suggested that Cummings mode of dress is attention seeking.
That does have more than a ring of truth about it.
I never thought I'd defend Jeremy Corbyn but I wondered how he broke the lockdown? What did he do?
Over 70s were advised to stay at home, as was everyone who wasn't an essential worker apart from for exercise and shopping for essentials.
Only those with a shielded letter were told not to go out.
Sir Keir Starmer can't sack MPs, only Shadow Cabinet Ministers from their Shadow Cabinet posts.
MAY7 Cummings knew he had the virus when he travellrd
Starmar can't sack MPs (except from the shadow cabinet) only the public can do that.
Johnson is the only person who can sack his SPAD.
Labour MPs did not write the rules they broke (not that anyone thinks that is ok and they have been soundly criticised for it).
Cumming did write the rules and has made very obnoxious comments about the lack of importance of the people who are likely to die. He was behind a lot of the Government's austerity measures which have had such damaging effect.
I would not vote for any of those MPs but I cannot sack a SPAD.
Well, Cummings didn't just bend the rules. He transported an infected person hundreds of miles and exposed a child to heavy viral load. He sits on SAGE. Apparently he's going to make an announcement at 4. Expect even more embarrassing moments. The issue is that people have suffered and continue to do so, following government restrictions
No we can't all break the rules if we think it necessary
Maizie D.
Only Cummings is aloud to do that according to Boris!!
The rest of us have to abide by the rules as we have been doing whatever our personal circumstances
allowed!
I'm just soooo gutted!
I thought somebody was going to dish the dirt about Starmer visiting a lover in Newcastle.
paddyanne I think you'll find that Alice Cummings has nothing to do with Dominic.
His sister is called Francesca Hewett and is an accountant.
