George Floyd Protests in Hyde Park

There are 1000’s of protesters in Hyde Park as I post this, no social distancing.

When in two to three weeks time the UK Covid-19 figures go up and more people die these protesters will be responsible!

growstuff Sun 07-Jun-20 00:21:53

I don't think the majority of protesters were manipulated by violent anarchists. I think they're genuinely angry (not that I'm condoning the behaviour of some).

Only this week, PHE produced a report about the number of BAME people dying as a result of COVID-19, but failed to produce any recommendations. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that report is kicked into the long grass.

There is bubbling resentment about Windrush and Grenfell, in addition to a failure to act on the Lammy Report and the Marmot Report and Review on inequalities plus the ongoing experiences of people in some communities.

I think the influence of "anarchists" is exaggerated. In fact, there's some evidence that far right groups have been posting messages on social media to inflame tensions and encourage protest.

Combined with the other videos, I think it's possible to see what happened.

Police horses started to charge down Whitehall (from left to right). Missiles are being thrown and the horses seem to stop. Presumably during this time the bike is pushed towards the stationery horses. One of the horses bolted, hit a traffic light and the rider fell off. You can hear the crowd reacting to something - possibly the fall or when the horse allegedly hit a protester. A few seconds later, a riderless horse is seen running from right to left.

A savage and cruel end to a life which has left the world shocked and stunned apart, perhaps, from DonaldTrump.

I most certainly object to a protest march whilst there is a pandemic threatening the worlds population and dread the thought of months of lockdown being thrown over and having to start all over again.

How on earth are the vastly outnumbered police force supposed to prevent suggestible people from being manipulated by violent anarchists who have zero moral scruples? Yet there are still some who will defend, and thereby encourage, their behaviour and lay the blame on anybody apart from the perpetrators.

The majority attending are naive enough to believe the demonstration will be peaceful but the trouble makers are there to cause mayhem and they couldn’t care less who gets injured or even killed. The socialists can huff and puff as much as they like but these protesters will cause another spike in the R number and some will inevitably be family members of these irresponsible people. I wonder if they will even care or if they, in turn, will look for someone else to blame.

The world is in an extremely vulnerable place right now and some evil wicked people are attempting to take full advantage.

In the video where the bike was pushed/thrown, there are two horses. One is black; the other is brown (chestnut?). The brown one could have been the one which it's claimed bolted, then hit a traffic light. The rider fell and the horse then went on to knock a protester down.

I sincerely hope the horse(s), rider and protester who was hit are all OK.

It really is so sad that this kind of idiocy causes injury because other footage of the protest shows that most of it was peaceful.

merlotgran Sat 06-Jun-20 23:46:11

Definitely two different horses. The one that was hit by the bike is black with two white hind fetlocks. The bolting horse is a chestnut with no white fetlocks.

Oopsminty Sat 06-Jun-20 23:23:13

The DM's headline is wrong.

Doesn't surprise me.

But the photos seem authentic

I think the policewoman's horse had bolted and she came off because she hit a traffic light

But again, I'm not 100% sure.

Oopsminty Sat 06-Jun-20 23:20:39

What kind of thug would push a bike into a horse?

Isn't it awful?

Hopefully they'll be able to trace the perpetrators

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 23:19:05

It might have been the same horse in two separate incidents, but the first video I linked shows that no bike caused the rider to fall. The horses were charging when the rider fell. They were just standing around when the bike was pushed.

The DM's headline is wrong.

What kind of thug would push a bike into a horse?
These are the kind of people who would turn up for any protest whatever the cause, and give genuine, peaceful protesters a bad name.

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 23:15:20

Thanks. I think it's much clearer what actually happened. I wasn't denying that a rider had fallen from a horse nor that objects were thrown at horses, but the original story about a rider falling from a horse because a bike was thrown at the horses didn't ring true.

PS. I agree. I wish they wouldn't use horses.

merlotgran Sat 06-Jun-20 23:13:49

Actually, I might be mistaken and it's the same horse. The footage is a bit confusing..

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 23:13:12

Found it!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOwc2Kw3ACo

There were two separate incidents.

Unfortunately, they've been conflated into one story to make it sound as though the protesters caused the rider to fall off her horse.

Lots of photos and clips here, growstuff

The latest link.

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 23:08:00

Aha! So it was a different horse? That makes sense. I don't suppose you have a video link for that.

Meanwhile, social media is awash with false stories.

The video I saw showed a police officer falling from a horse (reason unknown) and people running to try and help the fallen officer, but they couldn't get near because other horses were charging. Somebody can be heard shouting "Oh my God". I couldn't hear laughing and cheering, as some people have claimed.

I agree with you that horses shouldn't have anything thrown at them.

merlotgran Sat 06-Jun-20 23:03:02

Apparently it was a female police officer riding the horse that had the bike thrown at it. She was lucky that her horse responded in a calmer way than the chestnut horse that bolted. The rider had no chance.

It makes me very angry to see wonderful, well trained horses treated this way.

Horses lives matter!!

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 22:53:46

There is certainly a traffic light at the very moment the officer fell from the horse, but I still can't see whether the horse collided with it. Hopefully, other videos will emerge and the truth can be established. Unfortunately, there will be all sorts of rumours flying around until then.

lemsip Sat 06-Jun-20 22:48:39

I can see now that the bike isn't pink, sorry earlier shot looked quite different to which ive just seen on update

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 22:48:18

Well, we now have two entrenched attitudes, which is often the result of these kind of marches.

There is plenty of footage of people protesting peacefully. Unfortunately, there is also footage showing the opposite, including some "fake" footage from earlier riots.

"Lord of the Flies" is playing out before our eyes.

Callistemon Sat 06-Jun-20 22:44:35

Frome?

I'm astonished!
There was a march through Bristol
Marvin Rees is worried that this could result in more cases of COVID19 with its consequences.

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 22:41:52

The horse the police officer was riding and the horse which was shown bolting are both brown.

growstuff Sat 06-Jun-20 22:40:14

Do you have a video of it lemsip? I honestly can't find one. The video I posted shows the rider falling, but doesn't show what caused the fall. There doesn't appear to have been any thrown or pushed bike.

lemsip Sat 06-Jun-20 22:38:07

i clearly saw a bike pushed into the direction of the horse the bike was a pink childs bike .the horse that bolted was brown, different to the horse/bike situation

Barmeyoldbat Sat 06-Jun-20 22:37:57

Its not just London where there are protests, Cardiff, Bristol and a the small town of Frome all held protests so the spike will be nationwide.

Hetty58 Sat 06-Jun-20 22:32:51

Sky news reported that the officer and horse collided with a traffic light, then she fell. Her injuries are not life-threatening and the horse went back to it's stables.
