There are 1000’s of protesters in Hyde Park as I post this, no social distancing.

When in two to three weeks time the UK Covid-19 figures go up and more people die these protesters will be responsible!

Missfoodlove Sun 07-Jun-20 09:05:27

The protest should never have been allowed to happen.

Authorities dare not stop the protest because it’s a race issue.

What a shame there were no marches, protests or celebrities supporting the many hundreds of girls and their families who lives were ruined by the Asian grooming gangs.

Galaxy Sun 07-Jun-20 09:08:20

What a shame there are no protests against men. Women are killed by men at a rate of 2 a week.

There is nothing wrong with saying all lives matter. What happened to free speech. It is just a way to divide us. There are many who do not want to say black or white because they do not see people in that way so they would prefer to say "all lives". It's not a slogan.

Sparkling Sun 07-Jun-20 09:11:19

I do agree with you Rosslyn and Annie. Black lives matter is rascist. All lives matter means we are all equal whatever the far right say, who are they to dictate and twist a meaning. Should a similiar March be undertaken by white people, for an atrocity against a white person, it would be banned as rascist.
Thank you Firecracker I didn't know that George Floyd was high on drugs at the time, was an armed robber and criminal. I watched Eric Clapton on stage last night performing whilst high on drugs years ago, he was abusive and out of it, no one could have reasoned with him.

Please stop conflating Black Lives Matter with "Asian Grooming Gangs".

I watched the video on line and read some news this morning. I support the use of police horses, they aren't used to "intimidate", their use is crowd control and to offer some protection to officers attempting to control huge groups of people. Their training, along with that of their riders is excellent. For a police horse to be so terrified it bolts, is rare. The officer hit a lamp post and was thrown, she was unconscious and is in hospital. To fall at speed onto a road suggests she could have been seriously injured, reports say that isn't the case.
The protest was peaceful until around 6 - 7pm when the thugs took over.
I agree with posters here who say the use of the phrase 'all lives matter' is just wrong. Some posters just don't understand or accept white privilege. That is a huge part of the problem faced in the US, the UK and as demonstrations show, throughout the world.
I'm not sure that banning this demonstration would have been possible without riots happening in any event.
Cressida Dick, the mayor, the government have a mountain to climb in preventing further civil disorder. I hope the protesters who threw missiles, threw bikes at police horses can be identified and prosecuted.

Thanks to all these Protests taking place throughout the country. We (or all those that have isolated in what must seem for ever) will probably have to start all over again now.

It was bad enough people not adhereing to the rules before all these protest, but now, looking at the 100s and 1,000s gathered, many of them could possibly be carriers or have symptoms of Covid.

All the shouting and ranting that went on, people screaming in peoples faces in close proximity, surely must have expelled droplets/saliva.

bikergran Sun 07-Jun-20 09:27:53

I did see a protest where they were all sat quietly sticking to the 2 mrt rule and all very civalised (I must add)

Davidhs Sun 07-Jun-20 09:34:05

Madness, because it’s not going to change a thing, in the US or the U.K. or anywhere else, any ethnic group that chooses to live a different culture, will be treated with suspicion. It doesn’t matter if they are Black, Muslim or Travellers, it works in both directions, we don’t trust them, they don’t trust us., they don’t trust each other either - because they are different.

We - those that can afford it, can move away from city centers and leave the minorities and the poor to form their own ghettos. We control the purse strings and make sure facilities and infrastructure are improved close to us, while neglecting the poor areas where it needs improving.

bikergran Sun 07-Jun-20 09:34:35

Willow50 I saw the video! he was pushed by the policeman it showed it quite clearly, I cringed when his head hit the pavement and was shocked as the police just carried on walking past him, obviously trying to pretend it hadn't happened. I seem to think I read yesterday that some had been suspended.

Missfoodlove Sun 07-Jun-20 09:34:38

Iam64, why should I not conflate the grooming gangs with Black lives matter?

I did it to make a point, people have jumped on the bandwagon, including a load of celebrities.

Some causes are not quite as fashionable!

The way the Police and social services tried to cover up what was happening is truly dreadful, we didn’t march or protest, we just accepted it.

George Floyd was American, this is their cause.

TerriBull Sun 07-Jun-20 09:35:11

"I predict a rise of Covid" health professionals are very much of the opinion that although we are on a downward trajectory, we aren't out of the woods yet! When the Cheltenham Gold Cup and a couple of other events went ahead just prior to lockdown it was one of a few events where many people foolishly and needlessly gathered and subsequently there were spikes in infection from those thrown together in close proximity. So under the prevailing circumstances I wonder how many unnecessary future cases will be a result of yesterday's mass gatherings. Many of our healthcare professionals are from the BAME demographic and as we know a higher proportion from those various ethnicities have died. My step granddaughter went to the march, and those are the thoughts that crossed both our minds when we heard that she had participated, that and the fact that she like many others still live at home with other people hmm

Jabberwok Sun 07-Jun-20 09:35:23

What about social distancing. I suppose in these instances this is unimportant ? If that is the case, why on earth would the rest of us, yes ALL of us who have stuck to the rules, helped out where we .can, put our lives on the line to save or help others in so many different ways even try to bother any more! What on earth is the point?! All that clapping?!!!! What a joke!!

Galaxy Sun 07-Jun-20 09:38:03

Actually we didnt. Many involved in the womens rights movement fought hard for those affected and continue to do so.

Alexa Sun 07-Jun-20 09:42:02

The protests are undoubtedly bad for spreading the virus.

The protests are nevertheless worth it. The protests represent a fight for souls . Hygiene is not about spiritual well being. What use is human life if we have no soul?

bikergran Sun 07-Jun-20 09:43:51

Apparently it has risen in the North West of England in the last few days. Not sure how true that is but I can believe it due to the mixing of people.

Anniebach Sun 07-Jun-20 09:44:48

If ‘All Lives Matter’ is wrong, just whose lives matter and whose lives don’t matter ?

oldgimmer1 Sun 07-Jun-20 09:58:29

anniebach perhaps best to keep our mouths shutgrin.

According to Spiked this morning, two radio presenters sacked/ suspended for daring to criticise Black Lives Matter.

Anniebach Sun 07-Jun-20 10:04:40

Oldgimmer unbelievable really.

maddyone Sun 07-Jun-20 10:07:20

growstuff
Thanks for telling me I’m right, but I’m afraid I can’t take the credit. I didn’t say anything about the bike as I didn’t see much footage in order to make an opinion. I think you’ve mixed me up with another poster. I simply said I felt sorry for the horses as they must have been terrified despite their crowd training.
I noticed you were posting in the early hours, hope you managed to get some sleep. Take care.

Galaxy Sun 07-Jun-20 10:08:14

God I dont know how to explain this clear

lemsip Sun 07-Jun-20 10:08:51

Evie64. how I agree with you...no shouting down from me!

all lives matter! A shame lives have now been put at risk of the corona virus by the thoughtless bandwagoners who joined what should have been a peaceful demonstration!

Jabberwok Sun 07-Jun-20 10:10:30

Best to keep quiet then!

maddyone Sun 07-Jun-20 10:10:31

Sparkling
I’m sure growstuff said she condemns the marches at this time because of the risk to health. I’m not implying she doesn’t care about racism, she does, but she clearly said she cannot support the protests at this time.

ladymuck Sun 07-Jun-20 10:12:56

oldgimmer1, this is part of the problem in this country. This whole business of racism means that white people are walking on eggshells all the time.
I wish I could write what I really think on this subject but I know that it would be removed.
There is a lot of resentment among white people and this whole issue could easily escalate if authorities don't start to see things in a different light.

LadyGracie Sun 07-Jun-20 10:13:34

All lives do matter.

What could have been a peaceful protest turned into the usual rent-a-mob.
