Meghan's Speech

I would have applauded this speech had Meghan been an A list celebrity in her own right and not used her marriage to a member of the RF as a leg up on to the platform she now occupies.

Now she's back in LA where she always wanted to be, she's in the thick of massive racist issues involving violent demonstrations. It seems it was ever thus in the USA.

I couldn't help thinking back to her self pitying comments about racism in the UK. Now we're caught up in the turmoil caused by an act of racist violence in her own country where she fled to 'escape' her unfair treatment over here. hmm

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 15:42:20

As often as I choose to Oldwoman ,

EllanVannin Thu 04-Jun-20 15:42:40

The word racism/racist should be banned. It's a horrible word which conjures up hatred and anger. There's no need to use it at all.
The word has been taken to the extreme to incite trouble.

EllanVannin Thu 04-Jun-20 15:48:37

Meghan should be able to deliver speeches anyway, she's an actress and used to being recognised. It's what she does best.

I liked Obama as president and also his wife Michelle as both had a calming influence----better than the present one. Both good at speaking.

Lucca Thu 04-Jun-20 15:51:11

You didn’t invent it ?? You said it. And what has it got to do with her speech yesterday ? Just more re hashing of the same old stuff, Diana also being brought in again by some. Sorry to say this but a lot of this is out and out b*tchiness.

Jabberwok Thu 04-Jun-20 16:10:34

Perhaps if she hadnt't taken, and is still taking her in laws and the rest of the RF particularly our elderly Queen for a complete ride after they showed her every kindness, and gave her everything she wanted, perhaps if she hadn't referred to them as toxic and us as racists and apparently had to flee Briton for those reasons, people like me would still admire, respect and even feel affection for both her and he husband. Instead we feel deep disappointed at a seemingly lovely dedicated, popular couple who could have done so much good both abroad and here, but instead chose to live in tinsel town in order to make mega bucks and turn their backs on the rest of us! Oh, and we'd like our money back in full not in dribs and drabs ! It is she, who has in order to leave, made herself thoroughly dislikeable and it's worked!

EllanVannin Thu 04-Jun-20 16:17:02

Notice though that her alleged use of the word " racism " was used as an excuse ? As the word very often is which is why I don't like it because it's always said out of context.

Eloethan Thu 04-Jun-20 16:41:19

EllanVannin So isn't hatred and anger what is behind people being mistreated, discriminated against and murdered because of their colour - how else would such phenomena be described other than racism? Your comment is so 1984 it is beyond belief. Perhaps we should re-name it "tough love"?- or just pretend that it doesn't exist at all.

I thought what MM said came across as sincere and powerful. But, of course, there are those who just hate her and will criticise everything she does. She is actually very well known in the US where she was a high profile and well paid actress. I hardly think she needs Harry to boost her popularity. I don't dislike Harry but he has had a very privileged lifestyle and education whereas she has made it on her own - and didn't need to marry a royal to forge a very successful career.

The case of Justine Damon - a white woman shot dead by a black policeman - is hardly a commonplace occurrence. Trying to use this very unusual case to minimise the wanton brutality and disregard for life exhibited in the George Lucas case (and many other similar cases) is a very predictable - and well used - tactic. In any event, reports state that the vigil which was held following Justine Damon's death was actually organised by a black woman - and the protests that followed were attended by black as well as white people.

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 16:48:09

Agree Jabber she is defended by republicans because of her
use of the royal family

kittylester Thu 04-Jun-20 17:03:25

I am baffled why disliking Meghan makes me a racist according to some posters on here.

I dislike Emma Thompson in a similar way.

Lucca Thu 04-Jun-20 17:09:46

I Think there has been Excessive carping on about Meghan and very unkind comments. I’ve never met her so no idea if I like her or not .If that means I’m defending her so be it..that doesn’t mean I am a republican !

Jabberwok Thu 04-Jun-20 17:15:00

I totally agree Annie. Had these two been been an asset to the RF, republicans would dislike and sneer at them as much as they do to rest of that family. With a bit of luck these two might just be the catalyst that brings down the RF, that's why republicans find them so attractive!

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 17:16:19

Lucca you always defend those who are criticised / draw
unkind comments because you have never met them ?
Does this mean all politicians too?

Jabberwok Thu 04-Jun-20 17:37:04

Lucca, you may not have met her but you must be aware of her behaviour towards her in laws even her own father? Presumably you find all that goodwill, a beautiful home, (taxpayers expense) that wonderful wedding in laws again! Being welcomed and cheered wherever she went, and saddest of all pretending to care so much about the people of South Africa who live in abject poverty who hoped to see them again, an attractive way to behave? They'll be lucky!! With all their influence, privilege and popularity they could have really made a difference particularly in poorer Commonwealth Countries, especially as her husband had done so much already for Africa which he purported to love. But tinsel town called and it all just fell away! She conned us all from the RF to the rest of us. Sorry if you find it offensive, but that's how I feel!

cupaffull Thu 04-Jun-20 18:05:28

Here here kittylester
'I am baffled why disliking Meghan makes me a racist according to some posters on here.
I dislike Emma Thompson in a similar way. '
Cant stand either of them. Nothing to do with colour, just their pompous attitudes.

Jane10 Thu 04-Jun-20 18:09:58

I'm baffled that anyone at all pays any attention to this Meghan person.

Jabberwok Thu 04-Jun-20 18:22:48

You're quite right Jane10! Tbh originally, I really liked this young couple and feel great disappointment at how things worked out. I suppose you have to hand it to her she had us all fooled, but then she is an actress which soon became clear ! Best forgotten!

Lucca Thu 04-Jun-20 18:31:48

Anniebach i “defend” as you call it someone who has catty remarks made about them , it’s fine to say you object to harry and Meghan leaving etc but an awful lot of the comments are really personal and unkind.
I criticise the actions of politicians
But I know I will never convince you or Jabberwok that I am not a republican so I’ll agree to leave you to your topic.

maddyone Thu 04-Jun-20 18:40:55

I agree with everything you have said Jabberwok. I also agree with kittylester who asks why disliking Meghan makes her a racist. It doesn’t, and it’s an odious suggestion to make such a slur.

Incidentally kitty I don’t like Emma Thompson either. She’s virtue signals and in my opinion is two faced due to her do as I say , not as I do attitude.

Loislovesstewie Thu 04-Jun-20 19:55:42

I am a republican and don't like her. I agree with Jabberwok and kittylester.

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 20:59:46

A recorded speech to a high school in America is broadcast
in the uk ! Will she sue for invasion of her privacy if the school
released it ?

Jane10 Thu 04-Jun-20 22:46:19

Don't give her the oxygen of publicity.

Eloethan Thu 04-Jun-20 23:39:24

I can assure you Anniebach that a lot of republicans couldn't care too hoots about Meghan or Harry. Normally speaking, I wouldn't either. As with Diana and Charles, I didn't bother to watch Meghan and Harry's wedding as it did not interest me.

However, I think some of the things that have been said about this couple over the last few years (and also increasingly of Diana) are really spiteful and I don't think they deserve it. Reserve your vitriol for really unpleasant people like Andrew - who seems to have got off rather lightly. Or even Charles who has recently hugely hiked up the rents on his Duchy of Cornwall land and properties, to the dismay of many of his tenants.

trisher Fri 05-Jun-20 09:58:54

I don't know if I like her, I don't actually know her. As far as I can see she hasn't done things that would cause me to dislike her, as for example someone like Margaret Thatcher did. I wouldn't normally bother with her, or Harry, but the hatred and bile spewed out on GN has to be combatted somehow. If only to show that we are not all nasty embittered old crones desperate to condemn an attractive young woman who seems to have committed the cardinal sin of not wanting to live close to her in-laws.

Anniebach Fri 05-Jun-20 10:03:27

Calling posters ‘nasty, embittered old crones’ is so nasty, your
criticism of posters is far nastier than any criticism of Megan.

LadyGracie Fri 05-Jun-20 10:09:15

She has a major chip on her shoulder.
