.......anyone see his interview on the news? His insanity must now be obvious to all - surely no-one will vote for him? Just not possible............

I’ve never liked the man and think he’s arrogant, speaks in a childlike way would (don’t mean to be disrespective to children) and is a sociopath. He’s his own “fake news”. Now though, i’m wondering whether he’s having memory problems. He seems to be demonstrating some very worrying signs of it. And this man is the President of the USA - surely he can’t be voted in again! Can he?!!

varian Sun 09-Aug-20 20:23:13

If it were 1955 Biden would be 12 or 13 years old - so not prefect to be President He would still have had a lot to learn but I think he may have learnt it by now.

Remember when you compare Biden and Trump speaking that Biden has had a lifelong stutter. Consequently, he sometimes stops to regain his rhythm and control before continuing. He has never spoken about the "oranges" or "infantroopen" or called America's world-famous wildlife park "Yo-semite" – twice.

We understand his history with stuttering- As far.as I can see, it doesn't make him less presidential - What he says does- He simply isn't suited for the job- Although it if were 1955, he'd be perfect-

Trumps threatens the voters that Biden will "hurt God" and "take your guns" It's the twin obsessions of God and guns in the USA that seems so perverse.

The other one I've never been able to understand is the antagonism to any kind of NHS. Even the right wing in this country do not question the principle of the NHS - health care for everyone, regardless of income, free at the point of use. In the USA Democrats promoting medicare are labelled "marxists".

Greed, God, Guns & Addiction-

Greed is definitely first on the list-

Hear me out- Millions were collecting Unemployment Compensation March - July + (plus) an additional $600.00 "per week" due to the Coronavirus Cares Act-

Meanwhile, a family of 5 experiencing food insecurity received ::drumroll:: an additional $240.00 "per month" to be used towards food due to the Coronavirus Cares Act-

The Cares Act was a Democrat Republican Collaboration-
WTF were they thinking?

Now tax cuts are being discussed that could impact Social Security and devastate those 60 and older that paid into it and rely on it as their only source of income-

This dreadful collection of government representatives as a whole have to be the worse in U.S. History- A sorry, sorry lot-

LullyDully Fri 07-Aug-20 14:25:59

The generous side of my nature feels sorry for DT.

As I see it, he is struggling with his intellectual ability. He is being interviewed by people much brighter than himself, with better language skills and more insight. He is therefore getting confused when being challenged. He does seem stressed and lost. He just lashes out with stupid arguments to defend himself.

Sadly HE is his own main agenda and can not think outside the box.

The best thing he could do is to withdraw his candidateship......even if he blames fake news or the left.

At least the World would be free of this mad, unstable man. In reality I don't feel sorry for him as he holds America to ransom.

I'm live and let live so far as faith or no faith is concerned. Maybe I'm not because I struggle with extremes. It seems that in the USA potential presidential candidates are under pressure to confirm they are Christian and oppose abortion. Well that seems the case currently

Dinahmo Fri 07-Aug-20 11:59:18

Another thought about Mike Pence. He is two faced supporting a president who has no religious beliefs, who has committed adultery and whichever other Commandments Trump has broken. And Pence calls himself a Christian.

A Trump campaign ad used doctored photos of Biden

What is wrong with Trump supporters who seem to want believe blatant untruths and condone misrepresentation?

varian Fri 07-Aug-20 11:41:05

Among President Donald Trump's attacks, he claimed that Joe Biden, is "against God," even though Biden himself frequently discusses how his Catholic faith has guided his actions as a public official.

Liberalism has absolutely nothing in common with neo-liberalism or, for that matter with libertarianism,

I wonder how many people, even those who are interested in politics, ever understand these political terms.

I'm doing a FutureLearn course at the moment called "Propaganda and Ideology in Everyday Life". One of the points that has been made is how the idea of liberalism has changed over the years - and continues to change. In the UK, the nineteenth century Liberals were about free trade, whereas the Tories/Conservatives wanted protectionism to shield the farmers, who were their main voters.

The Democrats and the Republicans in the US have changed over the years too.

Just scrolled back varian and saw your post ^ I wonder how many people, even those who are interested in politics, ever understand these political terms^.

Just wondered if you meant me?

I doubt it. varian always posts in general terms.

She is right, though. Very few do understand these terms.

I think they turn people off, though. It's very hard to get any discussion going on here which involves political theory/philosophy. People prefer concrete to abstract...

Abstract becomes concrete when exercised

No, I certainly wasn't getting at you Greeneyedgirl nor anyone else in particular. I just believe that political theory is not well understood and the major influence on voting has been the attitudes and slogans pushed out by the vested interests of the popular press.

Bernie Sanders to introduce bill to tax billionaires during pandemic

Interesting that on the news they stated the economy improved and almost optimistic! Must be all that eat out to help out?. Money is certainly powerful. I must admit I've often had a little day dream about what it must be like to be Bill Gates. I do find the incredible wealth of Amazon Boss quite unnerving. Apparently during the pandemic on one day he made ten billion profit. I'm not sure how I feel about that, probably just sour grapes as an awful lot has been contributed by me ?. Finally government corruption in UK is trending on twitter. Havent read it yet though!

Greeneyedgirl Thu 06-Aug-20 19:40:33

Of course varian, and we should not be surprised that a country like the USA elects the rich head of a huge business empire, rather than a politician, to be President.

Financial interests trump (ha ha) democracy every time.

varian Thu 06-Aug-20 18:57:57

Which is the agenda of our Vote Leave Government

Greeneyedgirl Thu 06-Aug-20 18:31:31

Neo-Liberalism is nothing to do with modern Liberals. It’s modern incarnation started in the Thatcher/Reagan era.

Very briefly it is an economic philosophy that believes in deregulation and that the “free market” should be extended to every part of public and personal life. The transfer of the State from the provider of public welfare and services to a promoter of markets and competition.

The beneficiaries are inevitably large corporate interests, and in societies that follow this model invariably the rich become richer and poor, poorer.

Baggs Thu 06-Aug-20 18:24:00

I think I do understand what liberalism (classical liberalism anyhow) and libertarianism are, varian. It's the term neo-liberalism that I haven't understood yet.

Chambers Dictionary defines it as a political system that favours free-market economics within a liberal democracy.

If Trump is a neo-liberal that would suggest that he favours liberal democracy and yet just recently he has been accused of being anti-democratic because of his suggestion that the presidential election should be delayed. It can't be apparently so he would appear to be showing ignorance of the US constitution.

We also have the determination of some of the Trans community to eliminate women as a 'sex' with distinct rights and protections..

Whitewavemark2 Thu 06-Aug-20 18:12:25

How utterly depressing

Hithere Thu 06-Aug-20 18:00:01

Handmaids Tale.

Yes, this is the beginning.
Initiatives to change the restrictions in health insurance practices and eligibility, demonization of Planned Parenthood, elimination of abortion rights in many states, employers denying birth control coverage for their employees, etc.

Let's not start on having 0 common sense on school policies and covid.
It is not about putting children first, but controlling women.
