Signed!

Interesting to observe, the person who reported my post as racist for raising this very issue is for once keeping a low profile.

sparklingsilver28 Wed 07-Oct-20 15:58:24

Any discussion involving cultural identity is now so toxic. A few years ago it was "Reds under the bed" now it is " Racist McCarthyism". Allegations made against me, and upheld by Gransnet, because the person reporting it interpreted it as racists - not because of what was actually posted. In other words, a means of closing down the discussion!

The Petition when over 10,000 signatures at the weekend, which is fantastic. Big thanks to all that have signed and shared the link.

The government will now respond. The response may be soon or in a few months time.

The current II CSE investigation has been criticized by professionals and survivors. Maggie Oliver recently called it a white wash.

Its now time for a proper Public Inquiry that does not shy aware from asking the difficult questions about grooming gangs. Three core questions all public inquiries seek answers to: What happened, Who is to blame, What recommendations to be put in place to prevent this every happening again.

Thanks again for all your support

George

Good Morning,

Since the petition when over 10,000 last weekend its gaining good numbers and will likely top 14,000 this weekend.

Justice for Ellie and all the girls

There is zero racism in this petition. A public inquiry on grooming gangs, what happened, who was at fault and recommendations to prevent. All will be fact based. All facts no subjective opinions, no what about this or that. That is why a Public Inquiry is so important, its foundation is facts.

Thanks to those who have signed the petition.

What is surprising is in 2020 this subject is still needing to be addressed. Grooming of girls in care on the agenda in the 1960s. Seen then as inadequate parenting and Social Care failing which it was and, sadly, still is likely to be in many cases.

No one however, has since grabbed the nettle to deal with a clear cultural element. There are among those involved in this horrific crime some second generation of immigrants. And who clearly have absorbed little of the cultural values of the country they were born and educated. Why is that do you think?

One OP recently claimed, as a result of the stature incidents, young people being taught to hate their own country. If this is the case who is responsible and what should be done about it?

I signed this back in August. I’m not convinced that even if we do get it debated in Parliament, anything will change. It’s the elephant in the room.

George4444 Mon 19-Oct-20 17:38:34

Greyduster thanks for signing the petition.

It will be difficult to get this topic debated in parliament and for the government to ok a Public Inquiry. The current II CSE investigation has been described as a white wash and many people are not happy with the direction the II CSE has taken. Now is the time for a proper public inquiry.

Lots of things are difficult but when it comes to children and safe guarding we have to over come those difficulties.

Between 1995 and 2015 there were 42 court cases that resulted in prosecutions of grooming gang members. 177 sent to prison. Court cases in different towns and cities across the country. There have been many more offences and cases of grooming gangs that didn't get to court. The most recent case was in Huddersfield only a few months ago. Four men prosecuted as a grooming gang. So much is sweep under the carpet that we are leaving vulnerable children at risk. Police and local authorities are much more aware these days and do disrupt grooming gangs.

Ann Cryer was called a racist by the Gaudian no less ( no surprise there) when she tried her hardest to highlight these heinous crimes.

Hi All,

The Petition is doing well and has 16,662 signatures.

The deadline for close of petition is February 2021.

It would be amazing if we could get over 100,000 signatures before the close

If you have not signed so far feel free to do so and share the link for the petition on social media.

Ann Cryer did her best and should be commended for her hard work.

Awareness is so important of this heinous crime that could impact on any family in the UK.

Thanks to those who have signed.

Lancashire Police

Blackpool teenager Charlene Downes disappeared 17 years ago and has not been seen since – today detectives have vowed never to give up in the search for the truth as to what happened to her.

Charlene went missing on the night of Saturday 1 November 2003. She was 14 years old, a child and she was very vulnerable. We have never given up trying to find who was responsible for taking her.

On that Saturday night, Charlene had been with a young female friend. She was last seen at the top of an alleyway in Abingdon Street, Blackpool. It was around 10.30 pm.
We know that a white male chef, who was working and living in that alleyway, recognised Charlene on the evening she disappeared, saying that he saw her there, alone. She has not been seen since.

Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Webster who has been leading the case for the last 7 years said, “We have never given up trying to work out Charlene’s last movements from when she was last seen in alley off Abingdon Street. People are older now, 17 years on and we are still asking whether anyone can tell us about who Charlene used to hang about with, where she used to go, or places she would visit.

“I still believe that there are people who know more about what happened to Charlene in 2003. They might have been struggling to tell us what they have known for years. I am not naïve, I know that for some people it is never easy to talk to the Police, but they may just have something very important to tell us.”

“No matter how little you think the information you have is, please share it with us. It may be a piece of the jigsaw that we are missing; by coming forward and telling us what you know can only help us. You may hold information that is crucial to finding out what happened to Charlene.”

“So I appeal to anyone who was a visitor to the alleyway around November 2003, for whatever purpose, to contact us. This Alleyway is entered from Abingdon St and services the rear of business premises on Talbot Rd and Clifton St.”
The investigation is one of the largest and longest running in the history of Lancashire Constabulary. A reward of £100,000 remains on offer for anyone with information that leads to the prosecution of her killer or assists in the recovery of Charlene.

A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Blackpool teenager in August 2017 and remains under investigation pending further enquiries.
More survivors of historical sexual abuse have been identified as a result of this wide-ranging investigation and Lancashire Police will continue to act on any new information that comes to light.

Despite the passage of time, I would also ask anyone who is a survivor of child sexual abuse to come forward and contact us.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the incident room on 01253 607370, via email below or call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers.org. Alternatively they can email: charlenedownesinvest[email protected]

The petition asking for a public inquiry into grooming gangs has gone over 20,000 signatures.

The government also responded. See their response on the petitions website.

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/327566

The response saying the II CSE investigation is already up and running. The II CSE does not have the power to compel evidence to be given. It has 15 strands of investigation into the response of institutions to child sexual exploitation. Grooming gangs are not an institution they are criminal groups. A straight forward public inquiry into the single issue of grooming gangs would be beneficial to address the root causes as well as the response of local authorities, social services, the police and CPS to grooming gangs.

If we show enough public concern the government will be required to all a public inquiry.

Can you sign this important petition.

The petition asking for a public inquiry into grooming gangs has 20700 signatures. If we can get it over 25k before the end of the year that would be fantastic.

The government replied to the petition and said they have the II CSE inquiry in place. In my opinion the II CSE is more like an academic study than a public inquiry. Established in 2016 its only this year considering the full impact of organised networks and child sexual exploitation. Where is the urgency with this most urgent of issues.

A stand alone public inquiry will help safe guard vulnerable children now and in the future.

Thanks if you have signed the petition already and feel free to share the link.

Your sincerely

George MacDonald

Hi

The petition : We the British People Request a Public Inquiry into Grooming Gangs has: 25,568 signatures today.
Which is fantastic.

Its such an important petition so if you can sign it that would be much appreciated. If you a have already then thank you. here is the link. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/327566

News. The Home office published there research report into grooming gangs last week. The findings were that they don't have enough data to draw any conclusions about who makes up grooming gangs. Which is strange because there are court reports on those prosecuted and jailed for being members of grooming gangs who abused children. On a more positive side there is going to be a debate on the subject in parliament in January.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Strange writing that with Covid. Lets still enjoy the festive season. George

Three Girls was a 3 part TV drama shown between 16 and 18 May 2017. It was a dramatised version of events surrounding the Rochdale child sex abuse ring. It described how the authorities failed to investigate allegations of rape because the victims were perceived as unreliable witnesses. The sexual health worker Sarah Rowbotham who became the main whistleblower, drew attention to the case after repeated pleas for help from social services and the police fell on deaf ears.

George4444 Mon 04-Jan-21 12:27:44

There have been many grooming gangs across the country convicted of there crimes against young girls and women. The issue goes beyond Rochdale, Rotherham and Teleford. The current II CSE inquiry is being described by many as a missed opportunity and a cover up.

The petition requesting a public inquiry closes on the 5th of February so now is the best opportunity to sign it to show the government that there is public concern regarding this issue and that it should be allocated a proper public inquiry.

Why does society allow this to happen?. We could change things so that it could not, we could stop the drug trade, and the trafficking. We don’t because it would mean restricting freedom and increasing discipline in society. The police and social services know what is happening but they don’t have the time or money or the powers to do anything.

A few years ago a friend was a social worker in a midland city, dealing with just this, she explained young girls of 12 or 13 are running loose in the streets, the police take them home, next night they take them home again. It’s the same with those in care, they are not restrained, and added, if they havn’t been abused when they first arrive, most will be because of the lack of control. A care home is the worst place for vulnerable children.

She gave up social work and became a prison officer, at least there is mostly control of the inmates.

TerriBull Tue 05-Jan-21 12:16:23

Yes why does society allow this to happen! Whilst I think Britain's role in the slave trade was regrettable, we can't change the past. It does seem to me that there is far less outrage on the ills of trafficking and grooming happening right now in our midst than there is on the current preoccupation with the removal of statues of historical figures who were involved in slavery. Young people right now are being forced to into supplying sexual services, umpteen pop up brothels all over middle England allegedly. Not only our own young women but those from abroad. horribly abused, often drugged, held against their will. This is slavery why don't more people care about these hideous crimes?
