Where's the P.M.? Shouldn't he be in view, not hiding away ?

Look at the disruptions of recent days;
Exam results and fudged response from Education secretary , passing the buck, stretching the truth about when he really knew about the algorithm,

increase in covid figures
;
Migrants in small boats and Patel's response,

News of contract to work on Ofqual awarded to long term associates of Gove and Cummings without tender.

Not removing whip from MP accused of rape.

So it goes on .Surely a P.M worth his salt should give the nation the impression he is in charge. As usual Johnson is nowhere to be seen.

Elegran Wed 26-Aug-20 08:21:34

Perhaps Johnson is doing Starmer's job for him.

Furret Wed 26-Aug-20 08:27:32

???

Love that Elegran. Starmer could well be playing a waiting game. No point in rushing in as fools do when Boris is the gift (or git) who just keeps on giving.

Urmstongran our friends drive to their holiday home in France, several times a year - so it looks like a Green Card or similar will be required. There could be a requirement for a permit to stay longer than 90 days. There may also be tax implications, especially if home owners rent out their homes and run a business. There will be a requirement to have at least 6 months until expiry date on passports. They will no longer be able to rely on an EHIC card and will have to take out insurance. Will there be more obstacles and will it be a seamless transition? Who knows?

Grandad1943 Wed 26-Aug-20 08:40:32

Well, in my view Johnson and Corbyn are two persons who know how to lead from the front and get themselves noticed.

Starmer, however, seems to be a politician who hides in the mist and never wishes to be seen to be to firmly committed to any issue or policy, a distant figure.

That to me never has never been the Labour Party or its associated movement. For me, Labour in its history has been as an upfront radical movement, and to lose that is to lose all for many Labour movement members and supporters.

Just a mark two Conservative party.

‘coulds’ don’t worry me Furret.
Project Fear on steroids.
We’ll be fine, I’d put money on it.
?

Furret Wed 26-Aug-20 08:44:22

Does your employers know how much time you spend on social media grandad when you are ‘in the office’?

Lucca Wed 26-Aug-20 08:47:05

Grandad your post at 8:40. Is almost identical to your post at 8:16. So I’ll repeat mine, corbyn was invisible in run up to referendum, not leading from anywhere let alone the front.

Urmstongran Wed 26-Aug-20 08:47:30

Many of those restrictions don’t affect me Curlywhirly. We don’t drive. I always make sure I have six months on my passport. Private insurance lasts 90 days. We don’t rent out our apartment so tax implications don’t apply. I’m happy.

I thought Boris was on good form yesterday in the couple of clips I saw. A bit of the pre covid rhetoric had returned. I think he was talking about schools and the proms with equal passion, and throwing his thoughts out there. Admittedly he isn't always spot on with the content of what he says because he relies heavily on advisors, but here he was pretty adamant and convincing. Maybe he is switching into wake up mode, and getting himself noticed again.

That's not fair Furret. Grandad has told us 20 times he runs his own company. He can do what he likes.
However, he hardly ever posts during the day, only at breakfast time and in the evening.
Do keep up!

On Brexit Corbyn complied with the policy laid out by the Annual Delgate Conference which was his role to carry out.

The north south divide on Brexit was never bridgable and in that Corbyn and Labour did well to get two hundred seats in the House of Commons.

If you wish to witness what may have happened in regard to Brexit and the General Election just look at the Liberal Democrats.

However, no one ever mentions their policy and performance. ?

Furret Wed 26-Aug-20 09:00:00

Unfortunately Boris’ rhetoric is just that ‘language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect, but which is often regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content’.

It doesn’t translate into meaningful anything, certainly not action,

What? A capitalist?

Maybe Furret but it does stir up the people. His capacity for rallying the people is all there but he does rely heavily on his bombastic style which was lacking lately.

Furret Wed 26-Aug-20 09:14:32

More fool then ‘the people’.

Ellianne Wed 26-Aug-20 09:16:53

I am not entering into an unfair discussion about a poster's work ethics, that is for them to explain if they wish.
Private enterprise and freedom of choice actually help to increase economic performance in my experience.

Urmstongran Wed 26-Aug-20 09:25:28

Why do you always sound so bitter Furret about other people’s lifestyle choices? Sad really.

Well said Ellianne?

A well controlled capitalist economy has to be the way forward and always will be.

Anyway off to the office I must go, although strangely at the age of 76 it may be that shortly I will be able to retire.

The Covid crisis has meant that their are now persons out their with the Qualifications we require for our business. That will allow me to at long last sit back at least to some extent. ??

Irony is truly dead!

Ellianne Wed 26-Aug-20 09:33:37

A well controlled capitalist economy has to be the way forward and always will be.
And it has been shown to improve poverty too.

Furret Wed 26-Aug-20 09:35:10

Don’t take everything so seriously. It was an attempt at humour. Clearly misunderstood. Think I’ll go and chat to my vegetable patch now.

A bit à la Boris, then?!

Urmstongran Wed 26-Aug-20 09:38:47

Perhaps try adding a smiley face occasionally? That’d help.

Is this meant to be ironic? We have after all just left an organisation which was in the process of introducing tax restrictions and we are about to spiral into the economic chaos of a no-deal Brexit. -Poverty- you ain't seen nothing yet!

Don’t you find it just a wee bit worrying that our PM’s concern was equally distributed between schools (hugely important both now and for the future of the country) and the trivial matter of a media-led non-issue of jingoistic songs?

He’d fail an in-tray exercise if he ever had to apply for a proper job.
