Where's the P.M.? Shouldn't he be in view, not hiding away ?

Look at the disruptions of recent days;
Exam results and fudged response from Education secretary , passing the buck, stretching the truth about when he really knew about the algorithm,

increase in covid figures
;
Migrants in small boats and Patel's response,

News of contract to work on Ofqual awarded to long term associates of Gove and Cummings without tender.

Not removing whip from MP accused of rape.

So it goes on .Surely a P.M worth his salt should give the nation the impression he is in charge. As usual Johnson is nowhere to be seen.

good old Piers Morgan

Well, if anyone believes what he says they have a problem!!

Urmstongran Tue 25-Aug-20 18:16:52

So childish.

Apparently Tory Party members when asked why they voted for Johnson rather than Hunt said that they knew that Hunt was more intelligent but that he was boring and they voted for Johnson because he wasn't boring.

Using that algorithm Starmer has no chance then.

MaizieD Tue 25-Aug-20 18:23:35

But tory party members won't be voting Labour anyway, Ug.

Most of the rest of the nation seems to prefer substance over style.

And........once bitten, twice shy...

Urmstongran Tue 25-Aug-20 18:36:08

You don’t know that for certain MaizieD! I might be persuaded to vote Labour next time around once Brexit is done.

biba70 Tue 25-Aug-20 18:46:55

but you like Boris

biba70 Tue 25-Aug-20 18:47:43

Calli, your are talking about Johnson, right?

Are you a tory party member, then?

Face masks u turn hint! What a bliddy fool he is

I do not think that evaluating an ever changing situation where even the scientific evidence changes weekly is a U turn

Cannot see anyone calling out Scotland’s FM for U turning since she has decided after two weeks of schools being back
that for senior school pupils from next week face coverings will be mandatory?

Urmstongran Tue 25-Aug-20 21:02:52

I like Boris biba and his manifesto promised to get Brexit done.
After that in what, 3 years’ time, my vote will be up for grabs.

No I’m not a Tory party member MaizieD.
My error.
Apologies.

But how can you possibly vote labour when everything you’ve posted since before 2016 shows that you are a strong Tory supporter and right wing at that?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 25-Aug-20 21:12:31

I’m with Urnstongran the referendum happened, the never ending uncertainty was extremely bad for business.

Boris Johnson got elected on honouring the result of the referendum. Four years is a long time in politics.

Urmstongran Tue 25-Aug-20 21:16:12

I have voted Labour in the past.
And might do so again in the future.

So are you saying that you voted for Johnson to get brexit?

Furret Tue 25-Aug-20 21:24:53

WW that is how many saw the election. Dominic Cummings isn’t as daft as he looks. He knew there was no point in policies, debate, etc. Which is why Boris was conspicuous by his absence (and still is) . Simple dumbed down message, he said it himself Get Brexit Done.

Urmstongran Tue 25-Aug-20 21:40:32

Yep.

Furret Tue 25-Aug-20 21:43:25

And to hell with everything else.

Urmstongran Tue 25-Aug-20 21:47:17

In the short term - yes. It’s been a long time coming since the referendum.

Curlywhirly Tue 25-Aug-20 22:02:40

Urmstongran sorry if this has been mentioned before I joined GN, but it has always puzzled me why people with holiday homes in the EU supported Brexit; you have spoken of your holiday home in Spain - surely closer links with europe would be advantageous to you? We have friends who have a holiday home in France and they are dreading what next year will bring.

Dominic Cummings has blogged at length and spoken about why people vote as they do. He knows very well that people vote viscerally (with their emotions) rather than rationally. Almost nobody ever reads manifestos beyond a few simple headlines and are more likely to be influenced by whether they "like" somebody than what he/she ever says.

Calli, your are talking about Johnson, right?

Actually, in that instance I was talking about Piers Morgan, biba.

Urmstongran Wed 26-Aug-20 08:07:54

I’m sure I’ll still be able to use our second home in Spain Curlywhurly. Spain isn’t going to do much to us holidaymakers - their economy needs the tourists. It represents 12% of their GDP. Money talks. I’m not worried. We don’t drive in Spain so any changes won’t affect us in that regard. We always bring private health insurance. That said, I still believe a card similar to the EHIC will be put in place.

I wonder why your friends are so anxious? What do they think is going to happen?

Grandad1943 Wed 26-Aug-20 08:16:02

Returning to the thread topic, I have been a lifelong Labour Party and movement supporter. However, throughout this pandemic, Boris Johnson despite looking as though he is far from full health has been popping up continuously on the news channels while on visits to Distribution centres and hospitals etc and while doing that making meaningful statements to the cameras.

In those thoughts, Kier Starmer is nowhere to be seen, just the odd tweet, the unnoticed visit with no words for the cameras, or if he has said anything it has had so little meaning in terms of the crisis it has not been worth the air time of the news channels.

Starmer, the leader of her majesties opposition, seems to have become an expert at leading from the rear with weasel words and the same in his actions.

Anyone can have what views they wish on Jeremy Corbyn but he certainly knew how to lead the Labour Party and opposition from the front, and also in that with real vigour.

Furret Wed 26-Aug-20 08:20:33

Property taxes for British (or non-EU) owners could be increased and current deals that offer things like leaseback guarantees on investment properties could also be a thing of the past.

It’s also not a complete impossibility that British nationals could suddenly find themselves in need of a special visa allowing them to visit their property for more than a certain period of each year.

Currently, the EU freedom of movement pact allows British citizens to visit their property as often, and for as long, as they like. As non-EU residents, however, the amount of time they may be allowed to stay in the country could be limited. Therefore, the months spent enjoying some winter sun in southern Spain could be coming to an end.

Corbyn leading with real vigour ? Like John Inman serving with real masculinity?
He sat on the fence and contributed nothing in the run up to the brexit referendum and thats when I lost Any confidence in him
