All the BBC said was that they weren't going to be sung because of covid safety considerations.
Land of Hope and Glory has dreadful Empire praising lyrics. Not appropriate any more. I doubt if many people know them, though, it's just a good tune with a catchy title and chorus.
Actually, the place I volunteer at put on a Last Night at the Proms event last year and by the time we'd sung Hope & Glory and Rule Britannia and waved flags I was thinking it was all very silly in view of the fact that Britain is busy destroying itself and its respected place in the world and becoming like a banana republic.
MaizieD if the choir is going to sing other pieces including Juraselem there is absolutely no reasoning for them not to sing Land of Hope and Glory........just the BBC playing to the crowd of woke supporters and its backfired!!!
The BBC trying to ban Land of Hope and Glory has actually united Middle England against the woke Liberal lefties. I love this song and Rule Brittania and also Jerusalem they make me proud to be English.
I’ve had to sing these songs as a choir member. Land of Hope and Glory is Edwardian twaddle tacked onto a good tune by Elgar at the request of king Edward VII. Not Elgar’s fault. Rule Britannia is a very old song from 1740, and I see it in that context. It’s not about now.
I feel Jerusalem is in a different class. It’s great poetry by William Blake, and it isn’t particularly patriotic. The music by Parry complements the words well, and is singable by anybody without being trite.

Exactly! It's a totally manufactured "casus belli" for a culture war.
Get the plebs arguing about something which doesn't matter and nobody complained about in the first place, to distract them from what's really going on.
The words of Land of Hope and Glory do sound a bit silly now (imo). The tune is inspiring though. And I like Rule Brittania - to me it's about being an island nation and depending on our naval forces for protection and sustenance. Not racist or colonist. Sadly they are much reduced now.
It's another nail in the coffin for the BBC I support the campaign. I haven't got a TV licence and I'm not getting one, I don't watch the BBC or live tv.
