And it says she called for Dominic Cummings' resignation, you couldn't make it up!

I only have one word, unbelievable...

Ramblingrose22 Fri 02-Oct-20 10:42:06

It's a pity she can't be sacked. I wondered why Nicola Sturgeon hadn't sacked her yet - she doesn't shy away from tough decisions like some other types of Ministers I can think of.

Some people seem to believe that as long as they apologise it's somehow OK. In a court of law showing remorse (if regarded as sincere) may help to reduce the sentence but doesn't get the person off - they will still be found guilty.

It's high time that politicians start obeying the rules and the law. I hope she'll be gone after due process.

The inconsistency, which started with Cummings, and went on with others, with Johnson Senior going to Greece, then recently not wearing a mask in a shop, etc- is what is causing so many problems in the Community.

Consistency should be the norm- left, right, centre, friend or foe.

The starting point for all MPs should be that they should follow all guidance/rules/laws regardless.

suziewoozie that is exactly my view. Shame so many of them make "mistakes" code for "I got caught". But what really infuriates me is the way the likes of Cummings, Stanley Johnson, Corbyn etc don't get fined like ordinary members of the public have.

suziewoozie Fri 02-Oct-20 10:55:18

But actually jan I think every single breach should be referred to the Standards Committee and if proved, should automatically result in suspension from the House. The Met say the procedure is not to fine first time usually but to give words of advice/guidance. I don’t think the Met should treat MPs differently but they should be referred automatically to the SC. Maybe the Met advice should change but it should be the same for everyone.

I'm afraid what this country lacks is common sense . People are so rapped up in themselves and only think about themselves , that common sense goes out of the window .

henetha Fri 02-Oct-20 11:23:47

It's hard to understand how she could be so utterly stupid.

Craftycat Fri 02-Oct-20 11:30:31

Typical case of 'don't do as I do- do as I say!!

Willow10 Fri 02-Oct-20 11:37:48

Why is it that when MPs do something wrong like this, they always try to excuse it as a 'mistake'. I always thought a mistake was something done accidentally, not a deliberate, arrogant act!

luluaugust Fri 02-Oct-20 11:52:20

It would be interesting to know how she was thinking obviously not fit to be an MP if she can't think straight. I have no wish to defend Johnson Snr but he is a private person, albeit one who likes to embarrass his son at every possible opportunity whereas the others apart from Mt Cummings are supposed to be representing us and are paid by us to do so.I guess we are indirectly paying Mr Cummings.

Parsley3 Fri 02-Oct-20 12:18:42

Utterly irresponsible and incredibly stupid doesn't begin to cover it. She has to go.

humptydumpty Fri 02-Oct-20 12:20:57

She should do the honourable thing and resign, and pay the full fine; if the police choose not to prosecute, she should donate the money to a charity, for example her nearest hospice, they are all struggling now.

Sarnia Fri 02-Oct-20 12:29:47

If she has a shred of decency left she should resign immediately.

Marydoll Fri 02-Oct-20 13:41:09

NS spoke about it at the lunchtime briefing. She made it very clear how angry she was.

She said that the MP was her friend, but she had no choice to ask her to do the decent thing and resign.

Mollygo Fri 02-Oct-20 13:51:26

Urmstongran I bet she claimed expenses too!

4allweknow Fri 02-Oct-20 14:36:45

Should be arrested for her flagrant disregard of the rules/advice. Someone in her Parliamentary office is also ill.

Wheniwasyourage Fri 02-Oct-20 14:52:08

Of course she should resign for the unbelievable stupidity and total disregard for other people, but as has been said on the other thread, NS and Ian Blackford have now done all they can. He is the party leader in the HoC and has withdrawn the party whip from her, and Ms Sturgeon has condemned her in forthright terms. Now, if she doesn't resign, only her constituents can get rid of her.

Daftbag1 Fri 02-Oct-20 14:57:40

I couldn't believe it when I read that Parliament bar is excluded from the 10pm closure & curfew

Wheniwasyourage Fri 02-Oct-20 15:09:13

It isn't, Daftbag1 - they changed their minds (unless they've changed them again, which is quite possible).

suziewoozie Fri 02-Oct-20 16:33:22

Well she still hasn’t resigned- I thought she would have by lunchtime. What is going on?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 02-Oct-20 16:34:47

suziewoozie

Well she still hasn’t resigned- I thought she would have by lunchtime. What is going on?

She’s probably thinking. “if Cummings didn’t why should I?”

janipat Fri 02-Oct-20 17:14:06

She’s probably thinking. “if Cummings didn’t why should I?”

Very likely, although her having called for him to resign it's not a consistent attitude. I wonder if he'll have the brass nerve now to suggest she should resign wink

suziewoozie Fri 02-Oct-20 17:29:47

Goodness knows what she’s thinking - it’s impossible to comprehend isn’t it?

varian Fri 02-Oct-20 17:37:34

I am astonished that she has not yet resigned.

After all she is only an MP , not anywhere near as important as Dominic Cummings.

welbeck Fri 02-Oct-20 18:14:46

it's at least 2 miles 6 furlongs from houses of parliament to kings cross station.
what's the betting she didn't walk/cylce.
she either got a cab or the central line. further endangering fellow citizens in enclosed spaces.
and was she wearing a mask throughout all her travels.
