Let's hear what he has to say...

Our County Council is asking the Government to allow it to go into tier 2 not sure we qualify as we only have 77 per 100,000 and the criteria is 100 and above.

Am I right in thinking you're in Essex? The rate is higher than 77 per 100,000 in the north west of the county.

A friend of mine visited Liverpool a few weeks ago. He was shocked that "no-one" was wearing a mask in any social setting. Just saying....

I'm in Nottingham. As far as l'm concerned l have been doing what we've been told to do from tomorrow all these months anyway. The students should not have returned to uni they have been the major problem in making this situation worse. We should have got through the winter months and then opened up the universities next spring. We can't take the attitude well that's how it's always been done. We must find new ways of doing things.

I believe that's what SAGE advised, but the government put pressure on the universities to open.

Lol. Boris won't answer questions because that's what personality disordered people do! If you want a straight answer, don't ask a sociopath or a narcissist, they can only do compulsive lying.
There's absolutely no point in hoping, wishing or expecting honesty or clarity, that's only causing yourself unnecessary upset. Their promises are empty so don't bother to remember them and certainly don't rely on them. Bottom line, don't trust a word they say, focus on what they actually do. 'Actions speak louder than words.'

That's just your disgusting opinion. I suppose you would prefer the Labour/ Marxist alternative run by the abhorrent Corbyn and his cronies who obviously think the rules regarding Coronavirus do not apply to them or are just arrogant enough to ignore them.

No mention of Cummings or Johnson’s father then I see.....

They were not part of the topic of conversation but my comments would apply to them too.

I think we all know what to do! Just because we are in a medium risk category ( as I am) we shouldn’t take unnecessary risks.

The measures seem fairly clear to me but Boris took the wrong action when he opened up the country after lockdown. Encouraging everyone to go out and eat, go out and shop and go back to the office. To much far to quickly and we are now paying the price.
Also to be honest I am sick to death of hearing students talking about their University experience, I thought the point of going to university was to learn. They are now young adults and need to take the good with the bad and take responsibility for
As for Boris, he is a waste of space.

I assume you don't actually know any 18 year olds who went through the nightmare of having their exams cancelled and not knowing until the last minute what their grades would be.

Yes, universities are places of learning, but they're also places to open minds and widen experiences - and students pay dearly for the experience. They're consumers and having a bad deal.

growstuff Tue 13-Oct-20 13:19:38

Currently, the biggest rises in cases are in the 10-24 age group.

When that's broken down, not surprisingly, 19-24 year olds show the biggest rise, followed by 10-19 year olds, ie schoolchildren.

Ironically, this is precisely what Sunetra Gupta and the other fringe scientists are supporting. I'm a bit baffled why there's so much tut-tutting and mixed messaging from people who think we should get "life back to normal", but shake their pearls in disgust when young, low risk people behave as normal.

It sounds to me as though some people are suffering from Johnsonitus, ie they can't make up their minds, so flip flop from one idea to another without thinking things through.

Many of the countries which have done well are proper democracies, electing their politicians by a system of proportional representation, very often having coalition governments and therefore representing a true majority and cross section of their populations.

They are therefore trusted far more than dictatorships and governments elected by a minority which still exercise absolute power.

Interestingly, quite a lot of these countries, such as New Zealand, Germany and Finland have female leaders.

No, the bottom line is that it’s up to everyone of us to play our part. Even those who claim to not understand the rules ( buy a newspaper! The Mail sets the rules out clearly) surely know the Hands Face Space phrase.

It’s all of us doing out bit which will help to slow the spread.

The virus isn’t going away so we will have to learn to live with it until the vaccine is ready.

I agree that people should follow the rules, but I disagree that anybody should be encouraged to increase the Daily Mail's profits by even a few pence.

BTW It's easy to follow the rules (I have done to the letter since the very start) when one doesn't have to earn a living or go into a school. I wonder why even GNers have admitted they've broken them.

The so-called (self described) "silent majority" is hardly that silent unfortunately.

These are the people who voted for brexit, voted for Boris, and many of them would just love to vote for Trump.

They are not, nor ever have been, silent and they have done untold damage to this country.

MayBee70 Tue 13-Oct-20 13:10:28

There is so little mention of the countries that have handled the pandemic well. We need to look to those and ask where we are going wrong not just saying that certain other countries are having as bad a time as we are. Very little mention in the news these days if South Korea, Germany or even China itself these days.

Disgusting? That's just your opinion, which in my opinion is disgusting.

Not enough according to the medical officers!

varian Tue 13-Oct-20 13:02:16

All over the world, countries have faced the same challenge of dealing with the pandemic, protecting their populations and their economies.

Unfortunately the countries which have proven to have badly failed their citizens are the USA, Brazil, UK, Hungary, India and some other countries where governments were voted in (using an undemocratic FPTP system) by so-called "silent majorities"

Lucca Tue 13-Oct-20 12:56:24

Personally I don’t deny it’s not easy being a leader under these circumstances however I still feel the management of the pandemic was botched from the start. Lockdown was too late and wasn’t proper lockdown anyway, no enforcement etc, letting those huge events go ahead was a mistake, not getting mask wearing introduced a long time ago, to mention just a few.
The tired old “corbyn wouldn’t have been better” is utterly irrelevant.

4allweknow Tue 13-Oct-20 12:53:18

Paddyanne I happened upon today's FM announcements and found she didn't answer questions. Always just saying she is dealing with a difficult situation. Yes, much more articulate than BJ but not any more decisive as all her decisions as she kept saying us based on scientific advice, ie SAGE. In comparison Scotland has a widespread 5.5 million population whilst England has 60 million with many high density areas so of course management will be different.

Or brave

MaizieD Tue 13-Oct-20 12:46:49

No amount of 'understanding the rules' is going to help us out of this one because the rules aren't adequate. Without a rigorous test, track, trace and isolate regime in place, with financial support for people who have to isolate, the virus will continue to spread.

The TTI operation 'lost' 16,000 people who had tested positive not so long ago. That's 16,000 potential spreaders of the virus who, despite frantic belated efforts to trace their contacts, had time to infect thousands more people who, in their turn could have infected thousands more. All because the 'world beating' privatised system was so incompetent that it was using obsolete software to transfer positive test results to the track and tracing operation.

Meanwhile, local authorities which have used their public health infrastructure to track and trace have done a far better job while working on a shoestring budget.

Coastiepostie is spot on in their analysis. Elect an incompetent, fantasist, lying charlatan as PM and this is the result. Chaos and incompetence.

Lucca Tue 13-Oct-20 12:46:30

I don’t see why calling someone’s opinion “disgusting” is OK.

Janiepops Tue 13-Oct-20 12:44:44

To Lemongrove, “Well said that man!!!” I second that, and Suziewoozie, jennifereccles, libra10, craftycat ,LauraNorder, you speak so much sense!
Mollygo too true!
JANPT, at last a voice that speaks for the silent majority. Thankyou so much for being brave ?
