We need a coup

Whether it is an internal Tory overthrow or another political group, we need the current criminal incompetents removed from power. They are willfully causing needless C19 deaths and in-full-view pocketing tax payer money with only the flimsiest of attempts to pretend they're not.

I'm no Tory (god forbid) but bloody hell, what we need now is a Margaret Thatcher to sort this unholy mess Boris and his buddies are making.

Janpt What you say is basically admirable only have children you can afford though things are not that easy not that black and white with over 10 years of Tory austerity, a political choice not a nessessity. Now covid, Brexit a right wing criminal government in power. Newspapers mainly right wing printing popaganda too for their own benefit owned by billionaires against the people's nterests the media going along with it. The programme about people living off benefits is sad really, they probably find ways and means to get by with the help of their friends, it's the only way they know The programme makers are making fun of these people at their expense having a laugh its called poverty porn to get viewers to focus on a few people seemingly living off benefits though what programmes and newspapers should focus on and don't is the rich getting away with not paying their taxes hiding their money away off shore. A film by Ken Loach I Daniel Blake is about the difficulty people have getting benefits they are due and it highlighted the conscious cruelty of the Tory government the DHSS sanctioning people at the least excuse. The people having to wait 5 6 weeks to get pension credit and some people have starved waiting for their benefits got into debt some comited suicide and become homeless. Food banks now people having to go to them. So like the OP rightly says what is to be done about this government. There are still good people trying to do good do the right thing to help. Socialism needs to spring forth.

I don't know why you think austerity makes it harder for people to only have children they can afford ! I also don't know why you call the government criminal. I remember the last Labour government on losing the election leaving a note to say 'sorry there's no money left'. There is no reason for anyone to starve in this country. There was also a programme which showed that people can get an advance on their benefit and do not need to wait weeks for it!! You have obviously been indoctrinated to think the way you do but you should be able to make your own decisions about the injustice of Socialism. We certainly don't need it to 'spring forth'. We have already had an example of Socialist behaviour and certainly don't need anyone like that involved in running the country !

I meant universal credit I knew it was something credit ha.

Thanks Curlywhirly

I have a feeling that MiY won't be entitled to any more Universal Credit than she's already getting, although she might be entitled to a loan to help with the mortgage, although that will need to be repaid. I checked on the NHS low income scheme and she's probably not entitled to that because you need an income below £4,000 a year (ie the maximum Universal Credit).

MadeinYorkshire have you had a recent benefit check since the income-related ESA was removed?

Grany totally agree with your post of 23.15.

MadeInYorkshire Sat 24-Oct-20 09:05:31

Hello Ladies - am not quite old enough for Pension Credit as yet, they have just removed my Income Related ESA so am no longer entitled to any of those things, although I was getting my feet done via the NHS but they are shut!! No reason why they should be shut, am hardly breathing over them! Dentist has removed all my teeth due to Sjogrens Syndrome, have been shut since and have since lost my entitlement, so no teeth going forwards!

I am definitely getting al I am entitled to - have been to every charity there is for help, but am in a very peculiar situation sadly ....

At least I should lose a bit of weight on Monday as they are removing my kidney!

Nothing can be done about any government until a General Election.
Socialism was roundly rejected by voters last time around.

No, it can't be - I agree. I also agree that the voters rejected socialism in the last election (as did I). However, I'm not sure that they actually voted for what they've got now. To be honest, I don't think the voting public ever votes for any -isms or big ideas. They're remarkably ignorant about politics, unless something affects them,

I haven't bothered about the back.

I wonder that anyone doesn't recognise what was behind the original concept of the welfare state that if you feed, clothe and house people properly they will be more able to contribute to society, they will cost less in health care and will pay back the money spent on them in the end. So actually not providing food isn't a good way of saving money, it costs more in the long term.

It is worth enquiring about Pension Credit, if entitled you should be able to access other benefits.
www.gov.uk/pension-credit

From the figures MiY gave, I doubt if she's of pensionable age.

growstuff Fri 23-Oct-20 22:27:08

MadeinYorkshire I doubt if you are eligible for any help with your diabetic feet. I know I'm not, but your health authority might be more generous than mine and it depends what's actually wrong with them.

You should apply to the NHS for a low income certificate, (Google it) which might pay for your teeth and provide a voucher for NHS glasses. My income is slightly higher than yours, although my rent is much higher than your mortgage and I know I'm not eligible, but you just might be.

I'm afraid there's no help for haircuts. I haven't had mine cut since before last Christmas and I just tie it back now and cut my own fringe. hmm

Made in Yorkshire, sorry you’re on such a tight budget. Thanks for telling it like it is for people in your situation x

lemongrove Fri 23-Oct-20 21:29:07

MadeInYorkshire have you tried to get help for your feet (diabetes) teeth and glasses? If you have no savings then you are on the lowest income and as a pensioner could be entitled to these items on health grounds.

lemongrove Fri 23-Oct-20 21:23:37

westendgirl and anyone else.....I don’t think the intention was there ( any bullying) by anyone, but when there are pages of posters piling it onto one poster about one comment, then it just starts to look bad IMHO.

Janpt I apologise if this seems harsh........ but you have no flipping idea what it is like to be poor in 2020!!!!

I agree but as I have said before some people do not make things easier for themselves by wasting benefite

I get £74.45 as that is what the Govt thinks I am entitled to - with an extra bit for being disabled - comes out as £108 a week.

My mortgage is £80 a week, but if I rented (would need to be privately as there are no houses spare in my area, it would cost me £1000 per month, so the state would be paying that once my equity had dwindled fast!)

Just how do people manage on that? I don't put the heating on, I don't buy much food, can't afford to have my hair done or my diabetic feet, my family had to buy my new glasses and there will be no new teeth final ones went during covid and I cannot afford to pay for them, so live on liquids basically - going out for a coffee and a bun is not affordable, so no hobbies leisure or entertainment - my TV is a 36" old one but it works. Living on benefits is no life let me tell you, it is barely an existence!!

westendgirl Fri 23-Oct-20 20:52:05

Felt I must say that there was no intention whatsoever in my post to bully .anyone and I am sorry if it gave that impression.

MaizieD Fri 23-Oct-20 20:31:37

@MOnica

I'd really appreciate it if we could pick up our discussion about parliament having faced worse in the past. You gave the Civil war and Cromwell as an example, but didn't go any further. Can explain the significance of this and what it made 'worse'?

GillT57 Fri 23-Oct-20 19:54:52

They just show themselves up for what they are. Typical left wing money grabbers. If I said that you have shown yourself up for what you are, typical right wing cold hearted and mean I expect you would go running to report me. The behaviour of this administration is repellent, the support of those who put them there is even more so.

biba70 Fri 23-Oct-20 19:14:45

Funnily enough, many of us are often accused of not being left wing enough, or not at all, lol.

I'd say anyone who wants to protect kids living in poverty made so much worse by Covid, and this dreadful Government, is just and simply 'human'.

Iam64 Fri 23-Oct-20 19:05:57

MOnica, good post at 18.07.
lemongrove, I considered whether some of us could be accused of 'bullying' Janpt because she has been on the receiving end of some heart felt responses to her critical, cold and judgemental comments about people on benefits. On reflection my view was that she keeps coming back, insisting that her pov is the correct one and accusing the majority here and indeed the entire forum of being left wing.
That is just not true. I haven't done a survey but, my experience over many years, is that the kind of general consensus seen here over the FSM issue is unusual. There are Conservative voters on this thread who disagree with the government's stand on this issue.

GagaJo Fri 23-Oct-20 18:38:29

Lol, I'm not calling you eye roll. It was supposed to be in parentheses.
