There are rumours that the U.K. in wavering in its negotiations.

At long last reality is setting in.

A couple of reasons.

It is likely that Trump, who has supported Brexit and promised a “great deal” ?has been defeated. Johnson has lost his only foreign supporter.

Looking at the economic forecast it is grim. Our figures are the worst in the western world at the moment and will take another huge hit if Johnson commits hari kari and goes for No deal.

“Biden's victory means that the Tories cannot go for a no-deal as that would entail a violation of the GFA which would rule out any trade deal with the USA. In consequence the EU has the UK over a barrel”

We want a trade deal with the EU and they want one with us,
It’s always been bluff and counter bluff right up to the end.

You might have wanted a deal, but that is not true of an element in the Tory party, and the element that held too much influence.

lemongrove Sat 07-Nov-20 21:23:41

It’s a small element in the Conservative Party who wanted no deal, but not long to go now, so we shall see what happens.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 07-Nov-20 21:28:32

Oh there has to be a deal now. But they have buggered about for so long it won’t be nearly as good as it should or could be.

I am assuming even the Tories wouldn’t inflict a no deal on their country even though they clearly feel no patriotism.

biba70 Sat 07-Nov-20 21:34:42

We will get a deal, but not on our terms- we will have to take the Deal they deign give to us at this stage. The reality I am afraid, as they know we just can't walk.

Fact.

lemongrove Sat 07-Nov-20 21:37:59

Shall we wait and see??

biba70 Sat 07-Nov-20 21:40:04

Let's-but it is all clear for all to see right now, if you have your eyes opened ;)

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Nov-20 07:54:22

We are so stuffed.

We have rejected the EU and the USA has rejected us.

We stand alone.

Still it’s what people wanted apparently.

No belief in the new inclusiveness, but standing firm as good nationalists should.

Pathetic.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 09-Nov-20 08:24:14

If Johnson insists on pressing ahead with the Internal Market Bill, we are going to end without a deal with either the EU or USA.

Prepare for another u-turn.

How long is this country going to be prepared to be marched up then down hills by this idiot government?

None of those posts was from Richard Murphy.

Making wild accusations is never very clever

lemongrove Mon 09-Nov-20 09:39:10

I didn’t say they were directly from him.....just the sort of OTT things he comes out with.....like the Murphy blog you repeat elsewhere on GN.

Boris Johnson is the same sort of man as Donald Trump. Stubbornly far -right.

nanna8 Mon 09-Nov-20 11:24:07

Far-right but with a much higher IQ. Boris is for Boris and not for the UK. Should have stuck with Theresa.

MayBee70 Mon 09-Nov-20 11:39:35

Wasn’t it Johnson’s sister who said he had many friends that stood to make a lot of money out of a no deal brexit? He won’t be popular with them either the way things are going.

The Government has an eighty seat majority, unless there is a mass ignoring of the party whip they will carry on for the next four years.

This can be firmly laid at the door of the Labour Party who went knowingly into the last election with a an unelectable Party Leader.

Personally I'm delighted that Biden has won. It means that effectively the Tory government have been reined in - as they no longer have Trump in their unholy allowance- they will have to negotiate a deal on Brexit which will be so much better for everyone. The thought of a no-deal Brexit was really scary - potential for chaos. Poor old Boris - not going too well for him is it?

Greta8 Mon 09-Nov-20 12:34:21

alliance not allowance!!!!

Just for info, please

which card or cards does the UK now have in their (poker) hand?

biba70 Mon 09-Nov-20 12:54:20

because if you are going to bluff right to the wire- you better have good cards, for sure.

GillT57 Mon 09-Nov-20 12:56:25

Breaking a signed agreement is not bluff and counter bluff.

Davidhs Mon 09-Nov-20 13:00:01

Never did hold any winning cards just bluff, the EU are willing to stare them down all the way, just over 6 weeks to go and we still don’t know what to expect.

GillT57 Mon 09-Nov-20 13:34:25

What we can expect is a trip to the International Courts to answer to the charges of breaking a signed agreement, followed by no other country wanting to do business with a country with such a cavalier attitude to contractual law. Then there is the 30% increase in food costs, the queues at border control........all looking fab. Thanks

Kandinsky Mon 09-Nov-20 13:50:03

Didn’t we leave the EU in January?
