New EU Treaty - a good deal or not?

I thought this deserved its own thread. This deal is about to be announced and I’ve just heard Farage on the radio claiming it will be sellout. Trying to stir the pot already. Just wondered how it will be spun. There will be a lot of relieved businesses and relief that there is no deal at least.

I'm just relieved that the chaos a No Deal would have caused has been largely avoided. Of course it's not what we wanted but at least we can move on now.

I’m really not convinced it will be smooth sailing from here, but it’s a relief that it won’t be that bad. Personally, I’m just waiting for Scottish independence and our re-entry into the EU.

PM has announced Turing Scheme which will replace Erasmus, it will fund British Students to study around the world.

I was surprised re Erasmus but there's nothing stopping students and universities arranging exchanges if they want to it just won't be under that particular scheme.
DSiL studied at a Spanish University back in the 50s. It's possible.

Why on earth would be want to go back to the 50’s when hardly anyone went to university, let alone on exchanges.

Will see what the replacement brings.

A sad day as far as I’m concerned but hopefully it means the anti-European rhetoric can stop and the Billy Britain flag waving can be toned down. (Wishful thinking I know).

I suspect Scotland & Northern Ireland will be off soon. I just hope Northern Ireland goes peacefully (which will be almost impossible but I still hope for that).

A good deal is one that both parties are happy with, or both sides can claim as a victory. Let’s keep fingers crossed.

Exactly. (This agreeing with you is getting to be a habit. I'm worried.)

The extremes on all sides will criticise, but its a deal and hopefully it'll go through without a hitch.

On 5th Dec Framilode wrote on another thread: "I think this is just theatrics agreed between the two sides. They will both compromise and Johnson will be presented as the PM who saved the day and prevented us from the disaster of no deal. In reality he will have climbed down. We'll see."

I thought then that she was probably right. And it looks as though she was.

It's great that a deal has been done, even though a bit of climbing down has been likely been done. They really did string it out though, didn't they?

Great news

It's a relief to have an end to the endless media and comment we've had for the last 4 years

If Nigel Farage thinks it OK its good enough for me.

Well done Boris ??

Never laugh at inadequate men, look at the damage they can do.

You’re joking aren’t you? There’s years and years of wrangling now. For starters it doesn’t cover services - so the City is not sorted. This is just the start.

Please yourself, but some of us prefer to think for ourselves and draw our own conclusions baeed on data and opinions from a wide, balanced range of sources.

Good piece.

Lucca Thu 24-Dec-20 17:49:57

This I mean

vegansrock Thu 24-Dec-20 17:50:11

I guess it’s better to get your arm chopped off than your head chopped off. That’s why a lot of people are relieved,

The joy and whooping remind me of a hunt in full cry!! Hilarious reaction.

vegansrock Thu 24-Dec-20 17:54:23

Anyone who looks to Farage as their font of opinion will obviously be easily convinced. Snake oil salesman personified,

Lucca Thu 24-Dec-20 18:01:37

Farage always puts me in mind one Zippy from kids tv
Sorry irrelevant I know

Nezumi65 Thu 24-Dec-20 18:05:14

There is a similarity. grin zippy spoke more sense though.

Hopefully Farage will now bugger off to Germany - that would certainly be a benefit of Brexit.

vegansrock Thu 24-Dec-20 18:08:17

He looks more like Kermit the Frog crossed with Homer Simpson.

vegansrock Thu 24-Dec-20 18:08:50

I guess US ambassador is now not a possibility for the great Nigel.

It was embarrassing in comparison to the dignified speech given by Ursula Von der Leyan but I wouldn’t have expected gravity or dignity from the PM.

vegansrock Thu 24-Dec-20 18:12:05

One couldn’t help comparing the dishevelled look of our great leader with the more stylish well groomed UVL
