He had a good innings. I liked him, he was a feisty one who spoke his mind.

I feel saddened by the news although it was not unexpected. I'd hoped, too, that he would have reached his 100th birthday.

He served this country well, as a Royal Naval officer and as a stalwart who was there to support his wife in her duties both here and around the world. Having met him briefly, I can attest to his sense of humour.

Condolences to Her Majesty and family.

RIP Prince Philip

There’s no reason for her to stand down. I’m sure she will carry on as long as her health allows.

Nannan2 Fri 09-Apr-21 15:29:49

I hope she carries on.

Nannan2 Fri 09-Apr-21 15:27:02

Yes RIP his highness..I feel for the Queen...i wonder if she will want to stand down now or carry on for his sake too?

I am very sad at this news, too. I was so hoping Prince Philip would live long enough to received his 100th birthday card from the Queen. I don’t think it matters how expected it is, nor how old someone is, it’s an awful shock when it actually happens.

Did anyone else see the photo of him as a young man in the Navy, sporting a beard? Prince Harry leapt out of the tv at me, he is his grandfather’s image.

I liked Prince Philip and am saddened that he has died, although he was fortunate to have a long and interesting life. Nevertheless, a very difficult time for the Queen and her family. Bless them and RIP Prince Philip.

Such sad news and it has affected me, as I always had a soft spot for Prince Philip and his forthrightness.
I read somewhere that he didn't want a state funeral- probably just as well as I'd imagine The Royal Family would struggle to keep the numbers of immediate family to 30-if they're going to follow the present guidance- and I think the Queen would see the awkward precedent which would be set if they didn't.
RIP Prince Philip,Duke of Edinburgh; God bless the Queen and all her family. A sad day...

What a sad day for the Queen and Royal Family.

I saw a photo of Prince Charles recently and he looked very sad after visiting his father.

Whether Harry will be allowed to fly home is uncertain. He could be worried as to what reception he would get.

RIP ?

EllanVannin Fri 09-Apr-21 15:13:21

Can't be too sure but the Aussie news had said that Harry was preparing to fly home to be with the Queen, so he's obviously feeling it, as you would being miles away.

The news made me cry. There are not many things in life that are constant but from being a child I have always known the Queen and Prince Philip on the TV and it was a comfort that their life and marriage was strong. I have always loved his gaffes, they’ve made me chuckle.
I hope the Queen stays strong and continues to reign, but he will be missed.

I feel the same way. Saw the announcement as soon as I opened my computer, just as the sun was coming up over here.

I'm so incredibly saddened. God Bless the Queen.

Ive been crying all afternoon. I’ve never met him but I suppose we feel like we have. The RF has had so much BS to deal with over the last few weeks.

Ellianne Fri 09-Apr-21 14:39:06

RIP Prince Philip.

nanaK54 Fri 09-Apr-21 14:37:48

I feel very sad too, RIP Prince Phillip

rafichagran Fri 09-Apr-21 14:35:44

I liked him too RIP.

RIP and huge sadness for the Queen - today she has lost so much.

I wasn't surprised to see that he didn't want any 'fuss'. No lying in State and no State Funeral, but the service at St George's Chapel, Windsor and then burial at Frogmore. Lovely - and very appropriate, I think.

Another one here feeling surprisingly very sad. Just watching BBC showing his life history. A long life well lived.

I'm another one feeling surprisingly sad at the news. I do feel sorry for the Queen but I'm glad they had the last year together. I hope she finds some peace.

Berylsgranny Fri 09-Apr-21 13:38:45

Feeling so sad, he's been around all of my life, he will be very much missed by many. True support to our Queen - always.

Pantglas2 Fri 09-Apr-21 13:38:27

So sad - a long life well lived.

Squiffy Fri 09-Apr-21 13:36:33

I agree with you JE, I don’t know how she managed it. I feel so sad, far more than would seem logical.
