He had a good innings. I liked him, he was a feisty one who spoke his mind.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Apr-21 21:06:44

I thought the Harry and Meghan fan base would wait until at least tomorrow, but they can’t help themselves???.

Callistemon Fri 09-Apr-21 21:12:42

they

Don't count me in the they.
I just thought it was odd when pointed out, compared to other tributes.
Just as I would if there were odd tributes from elsewhere, of which there are none so far.

Anniebach Fri 09-Apr-21 21:13:45

Same could be said for the Sussex devotees ?

Bridgeit Fri 09-Apr-21 21:18:03

To say that ‘ they do tend to invite it ‘ is perhaps akin to saying a person asks to be bullied . ie all fault lays with the aggrieved person, but I do get kind of get what you mean .

It's a brief statement to replace a website. What do people expect a great long outpouring? Much could be said about practically every gravestone in every graveyard. It's meant to be a brief tribute and acknowledgement. It does what it's meant to do.

trisher Fri 09-Apr-21 21:19:43

Perhaps H was too upset to make a formal statement. I've no doubt others have been crafting theirs for the past few months.

So much of Prince Phillip I did know until today

AGAA4 Fri 09-Apr-21 21:22:31

Harry has lost his grandfather. Sad time for him.

Gannygangan Fri 09-Apr-21 21:24:25

Not sure what you mean about your Harry & Meghan fan base Whitewavemark2

Do you have a fan club address?

Callistemon Fri 09-Apr-21 21:25:00

Anyway, back to Prince Philip

Prince Philip served as a patron or president of more than 750 organisations and carried out more than 22,000 solo engagements

He has left his mark and had a keen brain. He took a keen interest in all the charities, had a great knowledge of all of them of which he was patron and brought to them much needed interest which improved their prospects greatly.

EllanVannin Fri 09-Apr-21 21:29:10

The ceremonial funeral is next Saturday.

Susiewong65 Fri 09-Apr-21 21:48:23

Gosh next Saturday, that’s quick.

nadateturbe Fri 09-Apr-21 21:50:03

Gannygangan
Coronation Street isn't on every day and it's certainly not on multiple channels simultaneously.
You find soaps ghastly. Others don't. We all have different tastes.

Anniebach Fri 09-Apr-21 22:02:52

8 days isn’t quick , for the queen mother it was 10 days

Calendargirl Fri 09-Apr-21 22:04:54

I haven’t watched the DofE tributes constantly, but have just caught the comments by his four children.

I thought Princess Anne looked red eyed, not surprising, I’m sure they were very close.

The Obama's have written a lovely tribute

I imagine most tributes had already been written.

"When we first met His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, he and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had already been on the world stage for more than half a century — welcoming leaders like Churchill and Kennedy; Mandela and Gorbachev," Obama said. "As two Americans unaccustomed to palaces and pomp, we didn't know what to expect."
"We shouldn't have worried," he added. "The Queen and Prince Philip immediately put us at ease with their grace and generosity, turning a ceremonial occasion into something far more natural, even comfortable. Prince Philip in particular was kind and warm, with a sharp wit and unfailing good humor. It was our first introduction to the man behind the title, and in the years since, our admiration for him has only grown. We will miss him dearly."

merlotgran

I'm really not sure what to make of Harry and Meghan's tribute on their Archewell website.

It's the kind of thing you would write about a loyal employee.

Thought it would not be long.

Whatever they said/did would be “wrong”.
If it has been more effusive it would have been damned as OTT and American

Anniebach Fri 09-Apr-21 22:16:22

Surely the tributes from his children were not made today, they seemed pieces taken from interviews

If you say so, Lucca, but you're making an assumption.

Anniebach Fri 09-Apr-21 22:19:25

Sorry, the tributes from Charles and Anne were made today.

Kate54 Fri 09-Apr-21 22:24:45

I was rather alarmed at the BBC tribute tonight (the Andrew Marr one). It must have been made a little while ago (they can’t possibly have got those interviews today....could they?)but how on earth did the producers persuade Prince Charles and his siblings to speak of their father in the past tense, all wearing black ties or the equivalent, before his death? Completely extraordinary. And not in very good taste, whatever the truth.

Gannygangan Fri 09-Apr-21 22:29:40

I remember the Queen Mother's funeral being discussed and practiced for years before she finally died.

Of course the media and family will have had comments thought about. They knew he was going to die.

It sounds a bit morbid but it'd just preparation for the most normal event in life.

Calendargirl Fri 09-Apr-21 22:30:19

As I said, I only caught the tail end of the interviews, the Anne and Edward ones were on ITV I think.

They were all in black, I assumed they were today, but not sure now. They seemed to be speaking after his death I thought.

eazybee Fri 09-Apr-21 22:30:52

I watched the programmes tonight and as always happens when someone prominent dies you learn so much more about them, things which were unknown or unacknowledged. An innovator, forward thinking, energetic, hard -working; a life- time of duty , service and loyalty.
This was a man.

Anniebach Fri 09-Apr-21 22:32:23

I just read they were prerecorded ,understandably
