They don’t help themselves do they?

I can hardly believe I’m going to post this but does anyone else find it hard to believe that Harry and Andrew who actually saw active service for Queen and country are to wear suits for the funeral rather than uniform? I understand why this decision has been made and I think it stinks quite frankly - designed to humlitate. I don’t know why they’re not wearing sackcloth and ashes actually - petty, vindictive, what a lovely family they are.

Peasblossom Mon 12-Apr-21 15:17:24

No, not really. Why do you think many war veterans will be saddened or even “appalled”.

What makes you think that? Do you know many war veterans who have told you that they are saddened?

Or were you just dragging them in to back up what you think?

It’s silly to post “many war veterans” when actually you know nothing about what they think.

Elegran

Do you think that anyone who has once been in the armed forces should be entitled to wear the uniform and insignia of rank for ever, then? Even after failing the introductory basic traing and leaving completely to have no connection whatsoever to any unit or service to the rest of their days?

That could lead to some confusion and/or deception from scam artists.

erm....

I know, I know, his mum gave him some honorary titles.....

Sorry - posted too soon. Meant to have images.

It is called an opinion.

But if you insist, - today I have been surprised at reading many many posts on twitter from veterans who have said that they are saddened and some appalled at the uniform issue.

I think that PH was a popular and charismatic officer and I’m sure those know him will feel sorry for the protocol that denies him the right to wear the uniform he fought in.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 12-Apr-21 15:28:01

The uniform would carry “retired” it is a perfectly normal thing in the military world.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 12-Apr-21 15:28:52

I can copy and paste some if the tweets if you wish, but I assume it won’t be necessary.

My goodness, is that Edward?

Thank yousuziewoozie for sharing your words of wisdom with us and for enlightening us about your way of thinking. You are amazed that anyone is embarrassed for you, we are not. What was said was that you were becoming an embarrassment which is quite a different thing. Everyone on here is entitled to an opinion as long as it is constructive and well informed. An argument for arguments sake is not a nice thing especially when we are talking about protocol which in your words is utter bunkum and elitist rubbish. Thank you again for sharing your ill considered and misguided thoughts with us.

Alegrias1 Mon 12-Apr-21 15:35:12

I'm not finding suzie an embarrassment, quite the opposite.

If only constructive and well-informed opinions were allowed on GN we'd have many fewer posts. Especially on the RF threads.

I don't think there's any need to be so rude, Judy54.

There’s no need to post so sarcastically. Do you think you’re being amusing?

Aveline Mon 12-Apr-21 15:42:27

I thought it was funny and quite saw Judy54's point.

Alegrias1 Mon 12-Apr-21 15:43:11

Funny?!?!? Holy cow.

Peasblossom Mon 12-Apr-21 15:45:33

Oh tweets. From servicemen.

Of course.

Diversion alert?

Sorry I’m not sure of your point.

But we aren’t moving this forward are we? Just dancing on the head of a pin.

Perhaps you would like to give your opinion of the issue and then we can have a sensible discussion.

suziewoozie Mon 12-Apr-21 15:53:28

No Peas not at all - I don’t need to employ diversionary tactics. The recent comments to me have been unnecessarily personal and unpleasant. That’s the true diversion - attacking a poster and not the post.

Judy54 Mon 12-Apr-21 17:02:36

Just my opinion suziewoozie

Just my opinion suziewoozie

And very unpleasantly stated in my opinion.

Don’t the RF dress up in all sorts of uniforms and medals they give to themselves? Charles often has a chest full. I guess if they give themselves titles and uniforms and medals which mean nothing apart from ceremonial , for their own ceremonies natch, they can take them away from those they feel don’t deserve those titles , uniforms, medals. for whatever reason, they can put their uniforms back in the royal dressing up box. They make up these titles and protocol and whatnot to suit themselves, they are not God given - don’t people realise this?

Judy54 Mon 12-Apr-21 17:20:35

No unpleasantness intended just my point of view.

Alegrias1 Mon 12-Apr-21 17:24:07

Thank you again for sharing your ill considered and misguided thoughts with us.

I think you need to review your definition of unpleasantness Judy54. Along with the definition of "mockery". And "sarcastic".

But that's just my point of view.

Elegran Mon 12-Apr-21 17:28:13

Was the uniform wearing protocol invented by the RF, then? I'd have thought it was the military who made that rule.

I have no idea but I do know the military did not pass the relevant legislation. We might increasingly be a banana republic but have yet to experience the military coup

PippaZ Mon 12-Apr-21 17:32:50

Weren't his positions Royal appointments after he had left active service? If so he gave them up and will have been well aware of this when he did it. I doubt he is as worried about it as some on GN.
