How can it be an opinion? He was either invited or he wasn't. It has been reported that he declined the invitation. An actual, factual invitation? Or more spin and lies to make his claim come across as a noble gesture. 'Noble' is not in his vocabulary. The problem with people like Boris Johnson is that you cannot believe a word he says.

It’s an opinion because we’ll never know the truth but many of us are drawing on long experience of him to know it’s more likely to be a lie or exaggerated spin than not.

It was no more a personal attack on you as yours was to the Queen.
I get you are a Republican I am neither a Royalist nor a Republican but at the moment I see a family mourning a family member just as we have done recently.

Apologies for not realising it was your first post on this thread. What’s repetitive is the attacks across the various threads. I stand by the rest of what I said.

I doubt invitation cards were sent out, there would have been discussions between the palace and no.10 .

But that’s all irrelevant - he’s not going and that’s clearly the right thing. He’s an inveterate liar and that’s clearly the wrong thing.

Is this a thread to criticise the Royal Family, the Palace ‘machine’ ,the wearing of uniforms to funerals, the non wearing of uniforms to funerals, anything that Boris Johnson does or says ( have I missed anything out?)?

Of course it’s a fact that Boris Johnson was invited or he was not invited, but since none of us know whether he was or wasn’t invited, therefore none of us know that he lied!
Those posters who suggested that Boris Johnson was lying about receiving an invitation are merely speculating, they don't know whether he received an invitation, or whether he lied about receiving an invitation, therefore this is merely opinion. Not facts.
Only the RF and BJ know the truth of it!

It is not a State or Military funeral. It is a family funeral.



It has nothing to do with spite or humiliation, but is the correct protocol for the wearing of military uniform. It would apply to ex-service man attending a funeral. Medals and bars can be worn.

I expect those who have medals may do so, if they wish. Harry took over as ceremonial Captain General of the Royal Marines from his grandfather; if he still held that position he perhaps could have worn the uniform to honour his grandfather, but he relinquished it.

He is not a serving member nor head of any regiment or establishment.

I know that wreaths may be laid locally around the country by ex-service personnel who will not be wearing their uniforms. They may wear medals, I do not know.

It's no good getting enraged about something read in the media when there are no facts to back up the claims.

A quick Google search reveals:

Full Uniform (which includes headdress and cap badges), may be worn on specified official occasions by ex-servicemen, providing the letter 'R' depicting 'Retired' is worn, is provided at individual expense, and agreed in advance,on request, by the relevant MOD department.

Also the Queen can give permission for uniform to be worn

Generally speaking, they would probably wear a blazer with an insignia, plus medals and headgear, not full uniform.

It’s a ceremonial funeral not a family funeral . COVID means only family will be there ( probably) but this does not make it a family funeral. It is a ceremonial funeral attended by family. Any republican knows that

I only hope Edward doesn't appear in full uniform with a chest full of medals, as everyone knows, he couldn't hack it in the Marines and left after a few weeks. I hate to see him dressed up at the cenotaph. It will be weird if Harry and Andrew , who have both seen active service, wear suits with Edward in Uniform.

My father had a blazer with his regimental badge on it which he wore sometimes. He looked lovely in it. He still had his beret but he didn’t wear it.

As the D of E had a lot to do with the arrangements for his own funeral, I wonder whether he had any input on the uniform ruling? That would be an interesting slant on it.

Some elements of the media know how they can play up this (possibly invented) split between Harry and William and will take great pleasure in highlighting what they think people want to hear and see.

One paper this morning was trying to say that H was having a dig at the Queen by putting the Latin motto of the Marines at the end of his message about PP. The two of them shared some ceremonial post in the Marines I think. Honestly, the press are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Effectively, if Prince Harry resigned his commission (it was his decision to leave the Army) he should therefore not Be allowed to wear his uniform “under any circumstances“.

To move away from Prince William and Prince Harry and the dress attire for the funeral, there is speculation that Princess Anne shall be wearing a military uniform on the day apparently as she is Head or trustee of one of the organizations and they say she has the right to wear the uniform.
