Wills and Harry rift blown out of proportion

I've thought all along that the so-called "feud" between the brothers has been exaggerated by the media. Brothers fall out as anyone with sons will tell you. Usually they make it up and everything is forgotten, but with Harry leaving the country and the press delighting in nasty gossip, a small disagreement has grown into all out war.
At least one reporter thinks as I do.

Dear me. Back to the weeds then.

While I'm gone maybe somebody could explain why you one decided to call him ScoobyDoo?

Which is relevant to the thread title of course because someone who is seen as being on the side of the Sussexes doesn't even get the courtesy of being called by his own name.

^its ok then to suggest ‘clocking somebody one’
Yes it is, and yes I have.
Many years ago my neighbour threatened to kill my tortoise that had wandered into her garden. Then she added i got the last people out of that house and I’ll get you out
Then I hit her.
She called the police. I told them to tell her that if she threatened me with my house, again, I’ll hit her again.
No more was said.

Glad I’m not your neighbour then. That’s not my way of sorting things out. Just because you’ve done it, doesn’t make it acceptable

THREAD TITLE WAS ;Wills and Harry rift blown out of proportion (

a dead and buried thread now it seems. as an acutely argumentative bad mannered thread has appeared.
should be remembered that you wouldn't give each other time of day if you met in real life so get over yourselves and go and cool off.

Ellianne Sat 24-Apr-21 15:11:06

The nickname is used because you find his real name funny and difficult to assimilate with your day-to-day understanding of how people should be named.
Wow! I can't believe you know so much about me! I'm a linguist, so all that explanation about names and their association is complete tosh.
You are barking up the wrong tree. Woof Scooby.

Namsnanny Sat 24-Apr-21 15:04:44

I think you've been hoisted by your own petard Alegrias.
Perhaps your too immersed in your prejudice to see it?

Smileless2012 Sat 24-Apr-21 14:59:08

Referring to someone by their initials isn't a nickname or being rude Alegrias. If anyone wants to read anything else into it that's entirely up to them, and may be an indication of how their mind works.

maddyone Sat 24-Apr-21 14:58:43

^Some people find racism in anything.
Because it’s everywhere.^

No it’s not, you’re looking for it.

Alegrias1 Sat 24-Apr-21 14:57:50

Friends? Oh goodness, are we in the playground now?

Anyway, all nicknames are rude if the person hasn't agreed to their use and I will criticise them all if I am in a conversation where it is relevant to do so. I have certainly on several occasions said it is inappropriate to call the PM anything but Johnson or Boris Johnson.

And well, the possible racism in the nicknaming of Mr Scobie....you won't agree, but never mind. The nickname is used because you find his real name funny and difficult to assimilate with your day-to-day understanding of how people should be named. Calling him by another name is a way of minimising his importance and poking fun at him.

I'd never heard of him until yesterday, BTW. Strange, given that he is all over the news....

Casdon, that made me laugh!

Casdon Sat 24-Apr-21 14:50:51

Oh gosh, I said BJ earlier, I didn’t realise it was slang for anything other than an abbreviation of his initials. I just looked it up. I don’t like him, but I won’t use that abbreviation again - apologies, I agree that’s out of order.

Ellianne Sat 24-Apr-21 14:46:14

Nicknames are rude.
So why don't you criticize your friends on the current political thread when they say "Demonic" and "Carrie Antoinette" and "BJ"?
Or do you just reserve your criticism for posters who use nicknames on a H & M thread? It works both ways, you can't pick and choose!
Still awaiting an explanation of how Scooby is racist.

Alegrias1 Sat 24-Apr-21 14:37:11

Of course he and Meghan have impact on our lives
No, they really, really don't ?

You could always start a thread about BJ
There's plenty already. And I don't call him by that abbreviation, apt though it is. Nicknames are rude.

Some people find racism in anything.
Because it's everywhere?

Elegran Sat 24-Apr-21 14:36:28

That is speciesist, Anniebach, on both you and Donald.

Anniebach Sat 24-Apr-21 14:31:27

maddyone I think I have been subjected to a racist slur ?

Struggling to walk this week I was called Donald Duck

Elegran Sat 24-Apr-21 14:27:28

A bollocking is/was a serious telling-off by someone in authority, probably involving shouting, strong language and a mention of being out on your ear if the crime was repeated. The connection with testicles (bollocks) isn't clear, but presumably the offender felt as though he had been grabbed by the short and curly hairs and given a hearty shake.

maddyone Sat 24-Apr-21 14:26:07

Some people find racism in anything. That’s because a) they’re looking for it, and b) they’re perpetually offended. I have no idea why the nickname for Omid Scobie is racist. Perhaps someone can explain.

Smileless2012 Sat 24-Apr-21 14:25:24

You could always start a thread about BJ, his policies and his performance in government Alegrias.

Namsnanny Sat 24-Apr-21 14:23:12

Alegrias1

Boris is meant to be running the country. I think we should be talking about him and his policies, and his performance in government.

Harry is some minor Royal with no impact on my life or yours.

Of course he and Meghan have impact on our lives

Otherwise why try so hard to appear relevant to the masses?

It's the first step In the promotion hand book isnt it?

Otherwise skip off in the sunset and live a lovely life minus the press attention.

But I bow to those with greater knowledge than mine.

Galaxy Sat 24-Apr-21 14:16:35

It means told them off. I would have thought they were behaving unkindly.

Smileless2012 Sat 24-Apr-21 14:13:47

Very good Bridgeitgrin.

Why did you quote my post that was about Oprah and then comment about posters being "exceedingly judgemental of said Harry" Luca; I didn't mention him in that particular post?

How on earth can you see anything racist in a poster giving Omid Scobie the nick name Scoobydoo Alegrias or are you desperately trying to find a reason to get this thread shut down, as others have been by making false allegations of racism?

I agree lemongrove if there are some who find anything associated with H & M or the RF so boring, why not leave those of us who do want to discuss it in peace to do so.

Ellianne Sat 24-Apr-21 14:11:41

^Harry is some minor Royal with no impact on my life or yours.^
Exactly, which is why so many are exasperated at finding him in the news on a daily basis. Oprah and Gayle and Scoobydoo etc are all infuriatingly contributing to this from one side, then journalists on this side refute the information given. Then half the world and his uncle join in. Then GNs pick up on it, including those who say they are not interested, and the comments fly.

Exactly Ellianne. It’s what used to be called gossip in the old days. It brings to mind those Les Dawson skits where he heaved up his enormous bosom and pretended to speak under his breath to his neighbour grin

I was not a fan of Diana but I just think that she would be heartbroken over the rift between her sons and she would never have allowed it to happen.

Yes. What I keep coming back to is how happy the brothers were in each others company until a few years ago. That's not to say they didn't have fall outs, but this rift appears to run far deeper and unfortunately for them is being fuelled by so many others.
I think one poster said way back on this thread, we can only feel sorrow for them.

Anniebach Sat 24-Apr-21 14:06:23

Seems it means - man’s testicles

Ellianne Sat 24-Apr-21 14:01:50

What does "bollocked" mean please?
Sounds vulgar to me.

Galaxy Sat 24-Apr-21 13:57:05

Actually I would have bollocked my children if they had done that. But they were kind children.
