The Queen and dedication to duty in the 21st Century

Being the Queen is one thing, but an aged member of the public is another. They're entirely separate entitities.

Maybe the Queen is undecided on who is going to make a better job of where she leaves off ? Head of State is no mean feat and to be perfectly honest I wouldn't know myself who'd fit the bill as a close second to her for dedication alone.

People are working beyond retirement age----why ??

I asked Google “what does a head of state do?”

Here’s one definition.

“The role of a head of state is primarily representative, symbolising the unity and integrity of the state both at home and abroad”

I’d say she does that pretty well at the moment.

What “work” should Heads of State do that can’t be delegated?

How many over 60's would be willing to forego their work to allow an out of work 25 year old take their place ?

I think it’s incredibly arrogant and self obsessed to think you have to carry on regardless. It’s almost as if she believes in the ‘divine right of kings’.

She has a good chance of living to 100 ExD as her mother lived to 101. It seems to be ridiculous to me to have a Head of State who is 100 years old.

Yes, I’m concerned about it Alegrias. I believe the Queen should abdicate because she is now 95 years old, and hand over to her son who is now 72 years old I think. I think the Queen is our longest reigning monarch, and at 95 it is perfectly reasonable to retire.

I can remember her saying she would never give up until she was dead, but can't remember where or when I saw it. I feel the family have been very supportive and now undertake most of the duties very well. She no longer travels overseas. It would be nice to see her make 100.
I only hope Charles doesn't let her down.

I believe she should take a back seat now. Surely she’s done enough years to qualify s having done her duty? If we’re going to continue with a monarchy surely it should be more modern, which would include retiring ? Personally I think she should have retired at 80 but I am no expert on royalty.....
