Don’t want to read the link Grany, I don’t bet but would be willing to place a bet on the link being from the republican group. Hardly unbiased .
It is. No point in watching because it is so predictable.
Does dedication to duty overwhelm any other consideration when it comes to being Head of State?
Why can a person stay in post, with all the deference that entails, when someone else is doing all the "work"?
Is anyone else worried that a 95 year old lady believes she has to keep on keeping on when many, many other monarchs have moved on in life and their countries haven't crumbled?

The monarchy is corrupt RF in public office for private gain..
The RF get more than enough funding, in fact too much. Lemon
Grany... does the UK have a monarchy? Yes. That being the case, they have to be financially supported.Would you like your money to go down instead of up? How is that fair?
The buildings and staff must cost a fortune to maintain and would you like them to buy clothes from Primark to greet foreign heads of state? To serve beans on toast to the visiting politicians and world leaders?
You can say ‘get rid of the monarchy’...I feel that way myself, but as long as we do have a RF then you cannot refuse to pay them for doing the job they were born into.
Bridgeit you asked about BP not opening all year I presume relating to what funding they get and the cost to the public.
Well this video covers these issues thoroughly It lists the Nolan principles for those in public office. It was a reasonable length clip Did you watch it from the start?.
Anyhow the video explains Royal spending.
You will get a more balanced view of monarchy.
I can't answer any more than what this video covers. I think it says it all.
Substance.
Grany it did not answer my questions, a very short clip with no subsatnce.
Didn't think you would Annie but you weren't asking the question from me Bridgeit was and this clearly explains it all in an honest manner You don't have to watch it Annie

Amazed that a sensitive man can be classed a sissy
Hear hear. I’m just amazed anyone still uses the word sissy to be honest.
Amazed that a sensitive man can be classed a sissy
There are only a small number of members of the Royal Family who still receive money from the Civil List - purely the closest family members who actually carry out royal duties - no member gets money if they do not do this. Many of you seem to be forgetting that the government gets all the money from the Crown Estates and then gives a bit of that back to the Queen, plus extra if buildings need maintaining - these are the buildings that belong to us, the people, not the Queen personally. The younger royals have been taking up more and more of the Queen's public duties (such as foreign visits) for a while now - she is still the one responsible for all the non-public duties that we do not see. I hope she stays Queen until the end - I do not like Charles and I think he could be the beginning of the end of the monarchy.
GRETA, no, our royals haven’t all behaved impeccably. Edward V11 was a prime example with all his “lady friends”. Lily Langtry et al. Prince Charles behaviour was appalling in my humble opinion, and Henry V111, well enough said!
Our Queen on the other hand, has been the absolute epitome of loyalty, to her husband and our country.
I agree with many of you on here that our RF needs scaling back. Too many receiving public money for doing very little, but I wouldn’t want to see the monarchy disappear.
The queen represents stability which is important to people, especially in times such as the pandemic, which I think is partly why there was so much grief shown when the DoE died.
However, nothing lasts for ever, and I can’t see future generations feeling the same about royalty as many do today. We are witnessing the beginning of the end.
Details Grany?
...the majority of us are perfectly happy and proud of our RF exactly the way they are and don't need any examples from Europe.
Heaven forbid we should ever learn anything from those Europeans – royal or not.
Good job our royals have always behaved impeccably.
The Queen can trace back to medieval times.
Can't we all? I've just traced mine back to around 1550. No records further back than that but then we were and still are mere mortals.
I don't think the Queen will abdicate. She will gradually slow down. I believe Prince Charles will become King but also that there will be changes to move the family into the modern world. I have always found the way people adore royals very strange. Perhaps it's a kind of comforting make-believe.

Believe it or not the plumbing & heating of the likes of Buckingham Palace etc are so antiquated that most of it can not be used & that which can be used is not very productive.....
The RF have been given money to maintain this over many years but they did not They could have open BP for all year to pay for itself but wouldn't. Now they have been given a huge amount for BP to be fixed up. Despite being hugely wealthy in their own right gained from the public purse.
ExD... I'm on the same wavelength as you regarding royalty. I too hope Charles doesn't let her down , personally i think he's a bit of a sissy, William is more up to it, than him . Sadly, I don't think anyone can match the queen . But that's just my opinion. The queen has it down to a T..

Well that can be said of many, many folks.
Before asking what others should / would do ask ourselves what would I do.
At this present moment in time my abode is small, but not as big or as small as others........ what should I do stay put , go smaller or try bigger , make room for someone to share with me? How would it help anyone else.?
Does queen ever say look we have been given too much take some back give us a funding worked out based on our needs There are starving people and children under the poverty line using food banks, that are multiplying.
I saw the queen in video on YouTube asking one resident in old folks home. Do you have a room of your own? That's good. Bearing in mind she has 19 house including castles palaces much land.

Grany All that you’ve outlined there is true but there is a small minority, most of them on GN it would seem, that just want to wave their flags and doff their caps and look through rose coloured spectacles. Sometimes I think it’s kinder to just let them carry on believing.
Yes agree jacqrose ha
So you see the RF are in it for themselves people don't gain anything.
The monarchy is corrupt in public office for private gain.
Many of the Queens engagements (Hand shaking, openings of & patronages) are now attended by & shared out through the extended family .
They also set up & or support various initiatives, for a range of people.
PC doesn’t appear to get much positive recognition from the press for any of the initiatives & The Trust he has started..... doesn’t sell as many papers as a bit of scandal or criticism does .......

Agree Shropshirelass it has been reported Charles refused security for Andrews daughters, what else has he done or will do. We know more about him and what concerns him than we know of the queen.
I think he will make a good king but will continue making changes now
