Mr Johnson and Mr Cummings

Demonic has suggested that Mr Johnson has been not entirely honest about his communications with James Dyson.

I recognise many people believe Mr J was ‘doing his best for the country in a pandemic’ when he offered to sort the tax for Mr Dyson. But, do we want ethical government or not?

Take a wild guess Pippa!!

PippaZ Wed 28-Apr-21 13:05:13

Well he got brexit done so absolutely nothing else matters .

What tone are you saying that in Lucca?

PippaZ Wed 28-Apr-21 13:04:35

There seems to be quite a bit of bluster on Twitter with posters saying that they think the PM did say the bit about the bodies but asking why it matters!

Over half our death toll occurred after Christmas, he mocked Starmer as a Grinch when he raised invoking a lockdown. He sent kids back to school for a single day. Criminal negligence. @DAaronovitch

He is rattled. The pressure must be continuous.

PippaZ Wed 28-Apr-21 12:57:47

Apparently it is unusual for Boris to do this.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 28-Apr-21 12:56:21

So it seems according to Kuenssberg - that when Johnson moved into the flat, he immediately set about on a massive refurbishment, and all went swimmingly until the bill came in.

He couldn’t pay it?

Then set about begging for help.

Who on earth refurbishes their temporary home at vast expense and doesn’t keep to a budget?

Iam64 Wed 28-Apr-21 12:54:16

I listened to Starmer and Blackford on PMQ’s. Both were clear in their questions, none of which were answered by Johnson. His shouty political party broadcast for the Tori’s in the local elections was the usual obfuscation and own trumpet blowing. He is Shameless.

Who paid for your curtains PM?

Well we're going to have 20,000 more policemen and what the people of Scotland want is....

I've got news for you pal, we want to know who paid for your curtains.

I think we should carefully note Starmer's point about the Electoral Commission.

If Bozo had paid the initial invoice for the tasteless trashing redecoration of the flat at no. 11 the Electoral commission wouldn't be investigating because it would have been completely in accordance with the rules.

It is absolutely clear that he didn't pay it. So, lying to Parliament again and breaking the rules.

He either didn't pay for it or didn't inform in the appropriate time. That may be why the Electoral commission think there is a reason to investigate. He has broken the rules either way.

JaneJudge Wed 28-Apr-21 12:42:06

A field where he can practise his rambling perorations

Alegrias1 Wed 28-Apr-21 12:41:55

I'm watching PMQs on catch up. Starmer is right in his comfort zone, this is what he's good at. He understands the finer points of the law, and looks cool compared to Johnson who is just having a hissy fit.

Oh, and deflecting. Council housing, Brexit and Kate Bingham, honest to goodness....he's an embarrassment. Oh, the SuperLeague now. confused

Oh I’d forgotten his promise to publish the communication between Johnson and Dyson.

He did do it.

No surprise

Now we know that it was Lord Brownlow who has benefited from government contracts, and helped fund the flat.

I thought that had been disclosed days ago? Has it only just come to the notice of the press? I saw it on twitter several times last week.

I saw it on Facebook a few days ago but then couldn’t find it. Assumed someone had taken it down.

Tony Blairs spend was over 10 years - they are allowed £30k per year. ( too much IMHO)

Doodledog Wed 28-Apr-21 12:26:46

A rattle snake ???

?

I missed KS's question unfortunately, but am watching PMQ now, and really wish that Bercow was back. Johnson is not answering the questions at all. He was particularly obfuscatory with the Welsh MP (the one with the purple hair - I missed her name.)

Whitewavemark2 Wed 28-Apr-21 12:20:49

Johnson looks as if he is going to have a heart attack, he is very rattled.

A rattle snake ???

Can I just emphasis that seeing Johnson as an incompetent, a liar and corrupt, does not mean that I have suddenly taken a liking to Cummings? I loathe the pair of them. thought that the Barnard Castle affair was a turning point in the lockdown measures and that Johnson allowed himself to look a fool when he permitted this unelected machiavelli to give a press conference. This does not stop me from listening to what Cummings has to say, he has everything to lose and nothing to gain from 'grassing up' his previous employer. Also, I care not a jot for curtains from John Lewis or anywhere else, but I do care that the elected PM is a habitual and unapologetic liar, and that an awful lot of people seem to think that behaviour which would not be acceptable within their own family and friends is acceptable within government.

As Alegrias1 has flagged, it's just a form of deflection by the "save Johnson" crew. It doesn't work but it does ask the question why we can't have a straight answer, after all this time and full oppotunity in PMQs to answer the question up front and straightforwardly and give the poor deflectors a smigeon of truth to hang on to from the best know liar in the country.

Urmstongran Wed 28-Apr-21 12:18:27

Ian Blacford just asked Boris ‘are you a liar PM?’ and the Speaker didn’t like the word.

Whether Blair paid £500K or £350k (Johnson not clear) for refurbishment, it matters not if it was his own money.

The point is Johnson received money he didn’t declare as he should have done.

He broke ministerial law.

yes, that is a very good point. I am so naïve

JaneJudge Wed 28-Apr-21 12:17:22

Oh I hadn't realised he was no 11 too. I think he's just had to take a propranolol

Urmstongran Wed 28-Apr-21 12:16:18

Well there was fire in Boris’ belly answering KS just now.
