I don’t.

I am not very clever and very old, but I try my best (I can see how this statement is all over the place because earlier I said I went to a Girls Grammar School, and had an excellent education. I am just very old! I admit that I struggle!

It's OK. I was just trying to be helpful.

I know you were MaizieD and I am very grateful.

Possibly because there is no viable opposition.

MayBee70 Fri 30-Apr-21 21:01:35

Why is there no viable opposition? There are far more experienced people in the Labour Party than there are in the party that Johnson created when he hounded out most of the Conservatives that had morals. I keep hearing the ‘no viable opposition’ quote but where is it coming from. Maybe if some people say it enough times people believe it. Who are the decent, trustworthy people in Johnson’s party? Can someone name them. Ok I’ll start the ball rolling. . Tobias Elwood. Can people name more please.

I like Tobias Elwood, heard him on the radio recently and I was impressed.

Not sure about Sunak he & his wife are amongst the wealthiest people in the country. which doesn't rule them out per as but...
He does well not advertising the facts.
Back to the original question; BJ surely had to go.

Yougov has Johnson 11 points ahead

Surveytion has Johnson 1 point ahead.

You Gov is owned by Nadhim Zahawi the Tory MP

Well blow me down

Wish I could agree with you about Dominic Raab, Urm. I find him positively insipid and decidedly uninspiring. Must research others mentioned, Thanks.

Funny but spot on article by Janice Turner in the Times this morning on “Why Boris will always get away with it”: chaotic, messy people like him have a certain ‘just like us’ attraction because a lot of lives (and life generally) are chaotic and messy. He may be a toff but he’s not a snob.

MayBee70 Sat 01-May-21 07:24:43

Even when their messy chaotic ness leaves a trail of destruction? Have his children started speaking to him now I wonder? The ones he knows about and acknowledges that is.

suziewoozie Sat 01-May-21 07:32:23

There’s chaotic and messy lives and then there’s Johnson’s utter shitshow . As for him not being a snob? Really?

MayBee70 Sat 01-May-21 07:37:19

That’s the thing isn’t it. People think that if they sat next to him on a train they could have a jolly good natter with him don’t they. Except I doubt if he’d have much to say other than trying to be funny and he wouldn’t be in the slightest bit interested in the person he was talking to. Unless they were young and blonde.

During his time as editor of right-wing political magazine the Spectator, he wrote: “The modern British male is useless.

“If he is blue collar, he is likely to be drunk, criminal, aimless, feckless and hopeless, and perhaps claiming to suffer from low self-esteem brought on by unemployment.”

Also in the Spectator he wrote that single mothers were “ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate”.

Let's not even get started on his beliefs about John Lewis.

Not a snob? ?

I don't think there's a person in the country who doesn't know that Sunak is well off. That has nothing to do with whether he'd be a good leader or not, any more than if he was dirt poor.

MaizieD Sat 01-May-21 07:47:28

He's like the antihero in a novel. A complete and utter talentless shit who has nothing going for him but his charm.

It's just a pity it happens to be our PM that we're discussing.

Sparkling Sat 01-May-21 07:49:26

Every time Kier opens his mouth it's to complain, I have never seen him smile, he is dour, plus we need a strong opposition, we just haven't got one.
Boris is infuriating, I'm afraid Carrie is a hindrance, his chaotic love life is awful, feel for his children, not the ex's, he was always with someone else when they hooked up and knew what they were doing. Yet Boris is an inspiring orater, very clever mind, full of optimism, that's what people want. Stoic, he was so ill with Covid but never complained and got back to work before he should have, most of all he gets things done, like Brexit. I will never forget when he announced the lockdown, no one else could have handled it so well. Mistakes he's made, but a pandemic doesn't come with a rule book, the vaccination programme a triumph. No one gets everything right. When this is over, he will most likely move on, then I think Dominic Raab would be a good level headed choice.
