Anyone understand why Johnson is so far ahead in the polls?

Not sure you were watching the same PMQs as me Galaxy.

I have very mixed feelings about Boris but, as a Tory voter, he is who we have. I vote for Tory policies not the leader.

I don't like Labour policies (not that we hear much about them!) and Keir Starmer is one of the least charismatic people in politics.

I hope that a new centre party rises after the local elections when Labour do really badly and an attempt to oust Starmer is made.

How depressing that so many people encourage liars like Johnson. He has been a liar all his life and will continue to be. Congratulations to the nhs for organising the rollout of the Covid injections - nothing todo with BJ.

I know people with many different political views, but those who are the most strongly left wing all seem to have university backgrounds, are/were teachers or nhs staff, and are also the ones who own second homes and seem to know how to avoid as much inheritance tax as possible. (I don’t need to know how to avoid it! Not rich enough)
They also talk down to people who disagree with them in a Corbyn-like manner. Double standards or what?

Others have it right on here I think, the government in power are giving their electorate a light at the end of the tunnel back to a near normality. The ubiquitous ‘man in the street’ cares about picking up a loaf of bread when they want one, that there is fuel in the garage, they can go to a pub, get their hair/nails done and support their football team at a game, That’s what matters on a daily basis, shenanigans at no 10 are so far removed from their daily wants and needs they really don’t care. The common view is that all politicians are ‘bent’; throw into that an opposition that is largely invisible. A lot of people now know Keir for being chucked out of a pub, not any Labour Party policies.

As I have said he also wiped the floor with Johnson at PMQ, it was interesting watching Johnson lose his temper.

It is so utterly depressing, that people simply aren’t willing to raise their sights above the level that Johnson offers.

One would hope that people have greater aspiration than the sort of potty politics Johnson offers.

But it would seem not.

It's all been said. The success of the vaccine roll out, 'getting Brexit done' instead of dithering and/or desperately trying to over turn the referendum result and the biggest thing in his and this governments favour is no credible opposition.

No you are falling the social media thing lemon, the vast majority of those supporting the labour party knew what was going to happen, a few people on social media arent representative of anything.

The U.K. is easing back to normal ✔️
The economy is on the up (slowly) ✔️
No shortages in supermarkets ✔️
No credible opposition ✔️

The above reasons as pointed out by GrannyGravy are clearly why Boris Johnson is ahead in the polls. Also, and in my opinion the biggest reason, the vaccination programme, which we all recognise has been spectacularly successful. Whoever had delivered it would have been popular, but as it happens it’s Boris Johnson.
As for his curtains and wallpaper, I’m simply not interested, and I’m guessing that many people feel exactly the same. Keir Starmer posing in John Lewis yesterday with a roll of wallpaper will have made people feel even more fed up. Whoever advised that idea shouldn’t be advising The Opposition because that will not have done anything to improve their ratings.

Granny I read that support for leaving the UK is now much less than it was in Scotland, especially since Sturgeon waffled about a hard border with England.Also that polls predict a slight reduction in popularity for the SNP.

Dogged support from Brexiteers
Vaccine campaign successful
Labour opposition ineffective

That will now probably sustain him for the rest of his term, despite his shortcomings

I dont think that's compketely true lemon. I understood completely why Corbyn did so badly and knew that was going to happen. I sort of understand what is going on with Johnson but still dont agree with it. I think many opposed to Johnson werent Corbyn supporters.

Then you are rather different from many left wing posters Galaxy who were dumbfounded after the last GE.

Because the alternative is worse.

Why is it so different in Scotland?

THERE is a “striking” difference between Nicola Sturgeon and Boris Johnson’s popularity in Scotland, a new poll shows. The YouGov survey, carried out for The Times, found support for Scottish independence is at 53% while 57% of Scots plan to vote SNP at next election.

It also put the First Minister’s net approval rating at +50 while the Prime Minister lagged behind at -50. Since last year, it marked a boost of 45 points for Sturgeon and a decrease of 16 for the Tory leader.
