What I think will happen tomorrow

That the SNP will do well
That Labour in Wales will do well
That Laurence Fox and Shaun Bailey will be humiliated in London
That my local council will stay LD
That Labour will hang onto its Mayors and do badly elsewhere

This is not a difficult prediction

Lin52 it would really help if you referenced the post/poster you are responding to. You could use the Quote facility. As it is, I often can’t make head nor tail of your posts

Here in Scotland we will have to wait till Saturday to find out what Nicola Sturgeon has achieved, SNP should have a majority in the Scottish Parliament but the Conservatives and Ruth Davidson may undercut the majority a bit. A lot of Scots like Ruth Davidson in towns that were staunch labour. It will be interesting to see what Boris makes of the Scottish elections once we know the result.

moggie57 Fri 07-May-21 12:45:54

liam fox is an arrogant ***
will it matter who wins , not for us disabled people on benefits .

Alegrias1 Fri 07-May-21 12:47:48

I'm sitting here waiting for the first declarations in Scotland, I don't know how I'll last till Saturday... smile

Sturgeon may or may not get a majority, either way with the Greens there will be a majority of independence supporting MSPs.

Ruth Davidson isn't standing, she resigned quite some time ago and she's off to be a Baroness. The leader of the Tories in Scotland is such a numpty that the Tories always made sure Davidson was on the election literature and Party Political Broadcasts. So if people voted because of Ruth, they're going to be disappointed.

suziewoozie Fri 07-May-21 12:49:15

But RD isn’t standing again is she and isn’t even the leader now? She’s off to the bastion of democracy known as the House of Lords where she’ll probably be given a ministerial post or other.

Good grief MazieD! Whatever echo chamber you are in must be an alarming experience. Where I live (NW) we are progressive, pro the idealism of socialism, with a small s, and despite the pandemic, there is a huge expansion in jobs, a steady growth of independent businesses, well cared for green spaces, improved living conditions for renters, and support for working people of all stripes. Many really interesting initiatives to benefit our community have not only been proposed but initiated. It's great to live in a city that's on the rise. And all thanks to Labour.

Theoddbird Fri 07-May-21 12:50:42

Growsstuff....it obviously says that people are voting conservative...thought that was obvious. But maybe you could not see that...hahaha

Buttercup1954 Fri 07-May-21 12:50:42

Well said Urmstongran

Nannan2 Fri 07-May-21 12:59:34

No i too had never heard of Shaun Bailey..But whoever gets in they all always make a load of promises then do something different once they get in! Anyone can apply for a postal vote, so should not effect a 'low turnout' i would imagine there is more postal votes than actual physical votes this year.

MaizieD Fri 07-May-21 13:00:41

Blimey! I don't live in an echo chamber, I live in an area of high deprivation. Of course, you clearly know better than I do what it is like to live here.

Nannan2 Fri 07-May-21 13:08:35

Hear hear Moggie- its the folk on ESA & 'legacy benefits' who got screwed over financially but i dont think Any party will rush to put it right.(the 'promised' £500 never materialised either, as only 'working tax' claimants got that- not just child tax claimants- i haven't heard any party say they will rectify that! (& if they did, if they got in they would not do it anyway!) - Yes i did vote, but dont know why i bothered.we will still be stuck with idiot Boris, even though everyone's complained about him all year! ?

Nannan2 Fri 07-May-21 13:09:20

General election is whats need but they darent have one.

leeds22 Fri 07-May-21 13:31:08

Great post. I feel like an outsider in this current election round as we only got to vote for the much unloved post of PCC. Basically I’m a luke warm Tory but voting for anyone but Boris at the moment. I’m seriously worried about the demise of moderate Labour and Lib Dems.

Bluecat Fri 07-May-21 13:36:18

I am not at all surprised by the result. Keir Starmer wouldn't recognise a socialist principle if it jumped up and bit him. He has sacrificed the left without managing to make any impact on the centrist vote. I know many people on the left who couldn't bring themselves to vote Labour under the current leadership. I dithered and thought about voting Green but reluctantly stuck with Labour. Starmer may not care about the loss of the left votes, and all the lefties who would turn out to campaign for the party, but he hasn't won new supporters to replace them. He has had no real impact on anyone.

As for the Tories... Well, if lying, bullying, giving jobs to your mates that they're not qualified to do, dishing out billions of pounds worth of contracts without tender to your cronies, and having thousands of people die because of your incompetence... if that doesn't dent your appeal to the electorate, presumably nothing will.

Mollygo Fri 07-May-21 13:38:09

Nannan2, I voted as well, but it needed more people to vote for any party except the Conservatives, and that simply didn’t happen.

varian Fri 07-May-21 13:59:32

Leeds22 posts -" I’m seriously worried about the demise of moderate Labour and Lib Dems."

I cannot remember a time when people did not write off the chances of the LibDems, but here's a result from yesterday-

Sandhill Ward, Sunderland-

Lib Dem (Edgeworth) - 1274
UKIP - 66
Populist - 38
Conservative - 320
Labour - 812

Lib Dem GAIN from Labour

varian Fri 07-May-21 14:01:33

The LibDems have gained four councillors in Sunderland

annodomini Fri 07-May-21 15:01:14

Thanks for the crumbs of comfort, Varian. I see that Stockport is still No Overall Control but with the LDs now with one more seat than Labour and expecting to be the leading party for the next four years.

Urmstongran Fri 07-May-21 15:24:03

Thank you Buttercup1954! ?

Who on the Labour side decided a candidate, who as an MP had declared Brexit a disaster and voted against it many times in Parliament, was a good choice in a constituency (Hartlepool) that had just about the highest "Leave" majority in the country?

Seems Labour are out of touch with their core base.

I was hoping for an informative reply, but never mind.

I'll try again.

Why do you think people have voted Conservative?

growstuff Fri 07-May-21 15:32:53

Alegrias1

Interesting....

We can post facts about the educational levels in constituencies that voted for Brexit, and there are indignant GNers all over the place.

But its OK to suggest that people who support Labour are less "properly adjusted"?

It would all make a wonderful script for a sitcom about hypocrisy. hmm

Bijou Fri 07-May-21 15:33:48

I haven’t read all the posts on this subject but it is my opinion that a lot of people didn’t bother to vote and/or are not interested.

It certainly seems that way in Hartlepool at least. The turnout was 42.55%, which I find a bit baffling.

Why do you think people have voted Conservative?

Well growstuff in my opinion, Keir Starmer’s role in trying to reverse the Brexit referendum result will never be forgotten. If he had an ounce of decency he would have quit politics when he failed to reverse engineer a democratic vote for 4 long years.

We will never forget.

And taking the knee was a bolt-on.
