Continuation

Urmstongran Tue 11-May-21 20:19:24

The conservative party was seriously split on Europe and it cost it dear for many years. The Labour party is hopelessly split on just about everything.

Urmstongran Tue 11-May-21 20:26:04

Seems Conservatives are already firm favourites for Batley and Spen with the bookies.

Labour is a sinking ship.

Never mind. Galloway is threatening to stand. confused

At least that will be entertaining.

Urmstongran Tue 11-May-21 20:52:52

GALLOWAY??

In the words of John McEnroe ‘you have got to be kidding me’.

?

^Keir Starmer in suit and tie.
Angela Raynor in leopard print leggings and DM’s in Hartlepool.^

One posh. One not.

How does what they are wearing make them posh or not?

Which is which? What you wear, ceased defining what you are decades ago. All kinds of people wear all kinds of clothes in all kinds of different situations. Think of all those little boys wearing suits and ties at weddings and family celebrations, poor children!

Perhaps Scotland would like Mr Galloway back Alegrias to enliven things up there grin

Alegrias1 Wed 12-May-21 09:30:03

Thanks, but we'll respectfully decline. grin

He and his party stood in the election just past, they got 0.9% of the vote. It was certainly lively, if you can track down his Party literature, its worth a look. If only to see the famous fedora and see the rather scary words I am from somewhere in your past shock

Miaow. ?

To return to the OP. Why is Johnson polling well?- Money talks.

The Conservatives have received more than £11 million from some of the UK’s richest property developers and construction businesses since Boris Johnson became prime minister last July, an openDemocracy investigation has found.

And are they planning to build on flood plains as I thought ?

M0nica Wed 12-May-21 12:12:15

And are they planning to build on flood plains as I thought ?

Nothing planning about it. they have been doing it knowingly for years under governments of all complexions

Flood plains are a lost cause. The threat we are now under is building in the Green Belt. More than 7,000 houses are planned for the Oxford Green Belt. Green Belts used to be protected, now they are up for grabs.

The EA always puts in an objection to plans to build on flood plans and it is always rejected.

The latest one near us is a housing estate and IKEA. Which is being built on the coastal plan. The issue here is that there is massive run off from the South Downs onto what is essentially a clay pan. It has flooded every single winter regardless of the amount of rain. They are apparently digging trenches for drainage. Sounds a bit Harry Tate to my mind.

The PM can't even pay small debts. A CCJ was given against him last October and delivered to Downing Street. For between £500 and £600 I think. If the debt isn't paid the bailiffs will come and take away goods to the value.

Someone's been doing a trawl of the records.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 12-May-21 14:43:10

£535.00 to be exact, probably a parking fine that got mislaid, the add-ons soon accumulate?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 12-May-21 14:45:09

It because of his chaotic lifestyle.

MayBee70 Wed 12-May-21 14:49:46

Reassuring to know that he endears himself to the electorate because of his chaotic lifestyle. Heaven forbid that the country should be run by someone efficient and organised. Anyway, £500 is too small an amount to register on his radar. Just money in his back pocket.

Greeneyedgirl Wed 12-May-21 16:05:24

Just one of his endearing qualities that the public seem to admire so much MayBee.

MayBee70 Wed 12-May-21 16:48:50

Yes, people can relate to someone who lies and goes from one personal disaster to another. He is a cult figure is he not.

As I said on another thread, I don't think people seem to care about his failings. They like him and his cavalier attitude because he somehow seems to muddle through, get things done and keeps going. Whatever you think of him, he has proved to be a strong leader who can survive the slings and arrows of the enemy.

Casdon Wed 12-May-21 17:09:25

Who’s the enemy Chestnut?

Chestnut Wed 12-May-21 17:43:51

Casdon

Who’s the enemy Chestnut?

The many people who try and destroy him. I would have thought that was obvious.

Casdon Wed 12-May-21 17:49:58

Chestnut strong doesn’t equal good in leadership terms, I think most people want honesty and integrity as well. That’s certainly what the US voted for last time.

MayBee70 Wed 12-May-21 17:55:37

Strong = thick skinned in Johnson’s case. imo

MaizieD Wed 12-May-21 18:00:57

How many deaths have resulted from Johnson's endearing 'muddling through' style? 150,000+ is it?

I'm sure that the friends and relatives of those who died unnecessarily because of his 'muddling through' and cavalier attitude' (I can't believe that a responsible adult actually finds those things an asset in a leader; it astounds me just to write it) perfectly understand that it's just his style and that if it causes any damage, well, he's so lovely we can all forgive him...

angry

lemongrove Wed 12-May-21 18:59:49

Who are you blaming for the number of deaths due to Covid in all the other countries in Europe I wonder MaizieD?
The countries which still have hundreds of deaths happening every week, France and Germany to mention only two.
But no! What a surprise, only Johnson gets any blame ( any Conservative PM would be blamed I expect).Frankly...it’s ludicrous, things have been managed very well overall in the UK which is why the Conservatives are doing so well in the eyes of voters.
