Meanwhile, in Scotland....

We had a by-election. SNP won, Labour second, Tory third.

The new MSPs were sworn in and they used 13 different languages in their oaths.

People in Glasgow stood in the street surrounding a Home Office van trying to deport so called "illegals". And they did stop them. One man lay down under the van.

And we've been surge testing and giving vaccines to all adults in Moray, where the hotspot looks like stabilising.

Another day in paradise....?

And your point being Aleg. What is wrong with having ID cards? I lived with them for 18 years in the Netherlands and they solved more problems than they created.
If you have nothing to hide I cannot see why you object.

There's a whole other thread. Its interesting. "Queen's Speech".

If you've done nothing wrong you've got nothing to worry about.

Alegrias1 Fri 14-May-21 09:43:31

Can't you look them up Lemongrove?

Polarbear2 Fri 14-May-21 09:44:21

I’m with aleg. If it was a bit warmer I’d be moving there. It was fabulous to see a protest with a good outcome ?

Urmstongran Fri 14-May-21 09:46:06

Anyway. 13 languages in Parliament, isn't that good?

Expensive twaddle. Bring on the dancing girls. Oh, I mean usher in the translators. Unnecessary in my opinion. They all speak English (otherwise they wouldn’t be able to work on behalf of their constituents!). Virtue signalling at its worst. I’m glad that’s not going on in the HoC. Costs would spiral!

lemongrove Fri 14-May-21 09:47:58

If the appeals process has run it’s full course...in that case, if they were denied permission to reside here they could vanish into their communities never to be seen again.Yes, it has happened unsurprisingly. There could be protests mounted on behalf of would be immigrants but not scenes like yesterday when officials acting in a legal way are obstructed by a mob.

Urmstongran Fri 14-May-21 09:49:59

We shall just have to agree to disagree ladies.

lemongrove Fri 14-May-21 09:51:07

Oh I will look it up Aleg but thought you may be anxious to show us all these many many languages.?

People making the oath in whatever language they want to, not translated. Doesn't cost anything.

Business of the Parliament is in English.

BTW, I'm Scotland born and bred and my first language isn't English.

Same for my 90y old Scottish stepfather. Gaelic speaking in his village.

He was appalled to see the scenes in Glasgow BTW.

Just a thought.

If ID cards are made a legal requirement.

What happens if the government decides for reasons of its own to take your ID card away?

I was incredibly impressed by the Glaswegians. What a sense of community and rejection of the Home Office and its Nazi style dawn raids.

You would think they would know just what that looks like. Did they learn nothing from the 1930s/40s.

Urmstongran Fri 14-May-21 10:20:38

Unlikely? If so you’d challenge it & see a solicitor.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-May-21 10:21:23

I wonder if his opinion has changed?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-May-21 10:21:46

Sorry

Keep digging ladies..... ??

Amazing how little some care for the democracy of the citizen. They really don't do they? I find this very, very concerning.

trisher Fri 14-May-21 10:28:08

I want Hadrian's Wall back then I'd be living in Scotland!!
Three cheers for the Scots and the Glaswegians who believe in proper and humanitarian. treatment even for illegal immigrants. Surely the mark of a civilised country is how you treat the weakest and poorest in your society.

Unlikely? If so you’d challenge it & see a solicitor.

Especially if you are very poor with zero resources at your disposal.

Like that’s going to happen.

EllanVannin Fri 14-May-21 10:30:47

Next generation well and truly brainwashed. shock sad
Isn't this a form of abuse ? Shocking. Not allowed an opinion.

The thought police are alive and kicking in this country. Scary.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-May-21 10:33:32

No wonder Patel wants to stop protest.

The police would have the powers to arrest all those protesters if she has her way. Their humanity and solidarity would be trashed.

Good Lord. I can't believe that doesn't remind everyone of what we have seen befor and fought against. A ghetto?

It does appear that it was not Johnson saying it but he did publish it. And people complain when I mention dictators and Hitler ...

By the way, did Alegrias1 say people could shorten her name? You do realise it a control and coercion tactic, don't you? Seems to me some people are feeling very insecure at the moment.

Sorry -it seems to be double post or nothing currently.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-May-21 10:45:39

“ If Priti Patel and her stasi treated migrants with compassion and decency then we wouldn't be witnessing scenes like we are today in Glasgow, but no she plays to a demograph mired in racism, xenophobia and hatred, Patel plays to this gallery, tells you everything about her..”

Alegrias1 Fri 14-May-21 10:49:39

TBF, I do sometimes shorten people's usernames because its quicker to type. But usually I try to use initials or a whole word, as opposed to just something that I think will annoy the poster in question.

As they say in my first language (smile) They can ca' me anythin' they like as lang as they dinna ca' me ower

But thanks PippaZ flowers

Coming onto GN at the moment is like entering a parallel universe.
